Burglary Mission Tutorial

Recommended Posts

Introduction

I have always been a fan of the burglary missions as they are good fun, although some people don’t find them profitable enough.

It is true that you can go out and kill a few drug dealers and make more money. But where is the fun in that?

Anyway, I have decided to write this tutorial so everyone can get the maximum profits from their burglaries, and hopefully get more people using and appreciating this feature in the game.

If you find this guide helpful or have any further suggestions/tips please post and let everyone know.

Main Points

Where to Start

Each city has one of the vans that you use for burglary missions. Below is a map showing where each van is located.

Where to Hit

Although it seems like mansions (such as the ones in Vinewood) would be best to hit, the items are very spaced out so you lose a lot of time walking back and forth. On top of this only a few of the mansions are usually accessible, so you also waste a lot of time looking for another place to hit.

Middle class looking houses (such as the ones around the beach area in Los Santos) are probably the best to hit. These houses have a good number of items, do not take too long to walk around and since there is a greater concentration of houses, you spend less time looking for somewhere that is accessible.

Where to Finish

Each city has a lock-up where you must go to finish your mission. As with the vans, I have created a map to show where the lock-ups are.

Whats The Point?

Other than obviously being a fun feature in the game and a decent way to make money, there is a big reward. If you steel $10,000 worth of items (this can be spread over a number of nights), you are rewarded with $3,000 and infinite sprint.

This is why it is good to do the burglary missions early in the game, as your stamina is low and you cant sprint very far.

Tips

Moving Around Faster

Travelling around in sneak mode is extremely slow, and is probably the main cause for burglary missions not being very profitable.

Lucky for us Rockstar overlooked a bug. If you simply crouch rather than sneak, your footsteps don't make any noise which allows you to move around considerably faster.

Although your foot steps do not make any noise, bumping into something or going through a door still does. So take care when navigating corridors with objects in them, and slow down when going through doors.

Get Out Faster

If sneaking around getting the items did not take up enough time, you also need to sneak out the door with the items. Wrong! Once you pick up an item go as fast as you can to the door, and as long as you are out before the cop counter reaches zero, you can enter the house again without trouble to get your next item.

Don’t Worry About Noise

Before starting your mission, head over to ammunition and buy the silenced pistol (if you have played enough of the game to unlock it). Now when you enter the house you can head straight into the bedroom where the occupant is sleeping and take them our with a head shot.

You may have to leave the house after doing this, but simply re-enter and there will be no noise meter. Now you can go about you burglary as loudly as you like.

Be Ready To Go

Instead of heading over and getting your burglary van at 8pm when you can actually start the mission, go over early and take the van.

Now you can drive to a good destination and wait till the clock hits 8pm, after which you can start your mission with the maximum available time.

No Rush Back

Although there is a countdown till daylight, you don’t actually have to be back at a lock-up by that time. Once the countdown ends you are given an extra five minutes to head back to a lock-up, so use all the time you can to fill your van.

Don’t Be Picky

Unfortunately Rockstar did not spent much time on the details for the burglary missions, which effects the realism but helps maximize your profits as all items are worth the same.

So don’t be picky and just look for big TV's, grab everything you can.

Burgle The Same Houses

If profit is your main goal, then Rockstar have left in another bug you can exploit.

Have a look for two accessible houses beside each other, park your van in the middle and you can hit each house multiple times.

Once you hit one house do the next one and then come back to the first, and you will find all its items will have reappeared.

One place that is good for this is the apartment’s just round from the low rider mod garage in Los Santos.

Thanks

I would like to thank the following people for the following reasons;

BlackStar- for reminding me you can burgle the same house multiple times.

-beeblebrox- for pointing out the infinite sprint reward.

Mxyzptlk for pointing out you do not need to get $10,000 in only one night for the rewards.

Xcommunicated for unlocking this topic so I could update it.

Nice addition for your tutorial :

What I do is this :

I go around and look for 2 houses across / next to each other.

parking a Burglar Van in CJ's homegarage is best.

Go out to the two houses, park the van in between.

Then RUN in the house, ignore everything/anyone.

Pick something up, RUN outside (yes I know, it's already counting) and place it in the van.

Enter the same house, and steal something else.

Then go to the other house, and steal 2 items there.

Then return to house #1 and keep repeating this cycle.

You have around 6 seconds left before the police arrive when you leave the house, so you don't have to worry.

I already got around 30 items in one night this way smile.gif

System Error

Another oddity that happens sometimes is that the items will keep on respawning. I don't know how it happens, but when it does, you can rob the exact same house indefinetly.

Also, if you see somebody sitting on a couch or something, they will usually see you. But if you are behind them, do a stealth kill with a knife, and the noise meter will vanish.

Even if you lack a silenced pistol, you can still kill the person and get out before the cops come. Be forewarned, as in certain mansions, you may barely get out at the last second.

@System Error, the first point you made happens when you go in one house.. tehn anothr, then back into the first house... I point that out in my tips... 2nd point same idea as the silonced postol tip... 3rd, mentions as well that there is no rush to get out... thanks for the extra but they are more or less mentiond above... you jsut have to mix and match a few tips...

@jools1980, any house can be "thievable"... only it is random to what houe you can go in... so a map would not really work as it changes every time you start what houses can are "thievable"...

Thanks, that's great tutorial. I was wondering how to do burglaries smile.gif

BTW, I lost my knife getting busted; where can I pick up another one, I think I picked one up from a civilian but is there one located around Los Santos somewhere?

Cheers!

If you click the Java Map link above "Guides:", then select to show weapons. Then change the filter to knife. It will show where you can get it.

The silenced pistol is available in my Ammunation stores now, and I've been using it a lot. Not on burglaries, which are fun and sneaky, but for wasting drug pushers for $2000-$3000 a time smile.gif

I still use the knife, though, for sneaky pedestrian slaughter.

Killing drug dealers is more profitable than burglary missions. But no where near as fun.

I have to admit, I liked doing the burglaries. I wish there was more time to do them, though smile.gif

I love them (hence the reason I wrote a tutorial on them). Though I have never did any in LV yet. I have jsut got the game for the PC and am still on the first city. but on the PS2 I did them in LS & SF. Not sure why i've never tried them in LV.
