Any kind of special driver for people with ATI cards? Turning off mipmaping thingy doesn't do it for me.

Now I have a 128MB Geforce FX5200 card and that damn glitch. So I tried turning off User MipMaps and it didn't worked. Maybe because I have 71.84 drivers. whatsthat.gif

Anyways I found another solution - not that great but it works. In same utility (nVHardPage) under Direct3D find aniostrophy level and select advance and turn on everything there to max (except don't turn on "Force textures to low MIP level" that makes game act weird). Glitch isn't gone but the blck roads are much further and the higher resolution the further it is (almost gone if you use 1280*1024).

Sice that was the only glitch in my game I can say rahkstar2.gif rocks cuz now the game is perfect. biggrin.gif

Being linked to lots of 'tweaking' programs i've never heard of doesn't really help much.

after fiddling around with the settings i finally defeated this problem, i used the NVHardPage program that the dude who made the thread linked to, but doing what he said didnt work for me (for some reason) ... anyhoo, after some fiddling around with the program i finally got it sorted biggrin.gif

My Gfx Card is a NVidia GeForceFX 5500 256MB ...

this is what i did:

as soon as it loads up i click the 'performance wizard' tab ...

choose to 'increase quality' ...

choose 'yes' to high resolution ...

choose 'no' for antialiasing ...

choose 'i dont know / both' for what API u want to use ...

choose 'gaming; for what u want to use ur PC for ...

then select finish ...

then, i clicked the Direct3D tab again to see what had been changed, i saw User Mipmaps were enabled, so i disabled them ... booted the game up, then voila ... sorted biggrin.gif

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the black roads are a tiny-bit visible, but far away enough so that you wouldnt notice it as much ...

hope this helps some ppl tounge.gif

Just to let you guys know, I had the same problem as others with NVHardpage not saving settings. I tried the same fix (disabling 'user mipmaps') with Rivatuner, and it works fine. Also the performance is a lot better for me than the fix that involves installing the older Nvidia drivers.

Same here, because i tried Rivatuner with the newer Nvidia drivers and it didn't work either.

On a side note, if it's possible you should change the topic title to indicate this is a Nvidia fix, i mean obviously this topic deals with Forceware drivers, i'm not sure if disabling user mipmaps is even possible with ATI Catalyst drivers. I'm just throwing that out there because i'm sure the ATI folks are probably getting kind of frustrated looking in this topic and not seeing a workaround for them (believe me if i had an ATI card, even a spare i'd look into this for you folks).

On yet another note, for the ATI folks, i believe Rivatuner supports Catalyst drivers as well (or there is an ATI version), it's a pretty good tweaking utility you can give a whirl.

well owning an ati 9250 myselfe,i can say you're prolly right,i haven't found a way to really disable mip mapping or use a different workaround, and it's really starting to frustrate me sad.gif

I fixed this problem by altering the LOD Bias in a program called ATI Tray Tools.

Enabling "Force Mip-Map Filter" seems to be the solution here too.

Thanks for the fix, that was getting seriously annoying.

Load Rivatuner

Select the 'Main' tab

Click on 'Customize' in the Driver Settings panel

A little box should pop up - click on 'DirectDraw and Direct3D settings'

On the next screen should be a checkbox called 'Enable User Mipmaps': un-tick it

P4 2Ghz-1024 ram

My video card is a RADEON 9600

I used to have this problem with black road. After 3 days of search , i finally found a solution.

Go in your Video card configuration window.

Advanced , 3d , then find "anisotropic filter" -must be on ,then choose a speed (personnaly it works good at 8X). Valid then play your game. You will see it's better.

At 16X it totally disappear).

It's not perfect but it seams to work for ATI VC

I tried everything to resolve this problem , I' m not sleeping since 3 days blink.gif

I hope that will work for you!!!

PS: Sorry for my bad english

I have a Radeon 9600XT 256MB and I also had the black roads problem, i'm in San Fierro now but it was also apparent in Los Santos, I used ATI Tray Tools (which, conviently, I already had installed) and ticked 'Force Mip-Map Filter' and it fixed it, you can find this setting in 'Tweaks\Standard Tweaks\Other'

Good luck y'all! rah.gif

Great! This fixed the problem for me! Damn, those ugly black roads were annoying! At least that should do the trick until Rockstar finishes the "How to do Mip Mapping, for Dummies"-workshop and provides a real fix for a problem that is so obvious, it shouldn't be there in the first place. Guess they simply fired their QA department after releasing the Playstation version.

I really hate seeing a great game like this being sort of ruined by incompetence.
