RandomOracle
Computer specs: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 1 GB RAM NVIDIA Geforce 6800 GT (71.89) Windows XP DirectX 9.0c I can play the game on the 640x480x16 resolution, but the graphics are somehow distorted. When I try to change the resolution the game just hangs and when I alt+tab back to windows there's some kind of unhandled exception. The same thing happens when I try to quit the game normally. I've had this problem since my first install and I've tried playing the game with and without the 1.1 patch as well as reinstalling. Any suggestions? Demarest
You definitely won't need the 1.1 patch. If you're having troubles switching res, your DirectX might be partially corrupt. I'd see if you could maybe reinstall that first.
RandomOracle
I just tried GTA Vice City and had the same problem with that one, i.e. the game freezed when I tried to change the resolution. I did try downloading DirectX 9.0c and reinstalling it, but it seems it doesn't actually do anything, as it detects the earlier installation. Is there some (safe) way to remove the earlier DirectX installation or to force the new installation to run through? I've also tried the newest NVidia display drivers (77.72), but they didn't help either. As an aside, these two games are the only ones I've had these problems with so far. Demarest
Interesting. I'm not sure there's a way to remove DirectX. If both that and your drivers are up to date, then perhaps your video settings? Try doing it with AA and AF turned off for example.
Teaboy
I've got the same problem, with a Radeon X800 XT PE and dual Xeon 3.06s, so it's clearly not a hardware compatibility issue. The game looks so bad in 640x480 on a 19" TFT which isn't natively 4:3 That said, I'm running Vice City and San Andreas perfectly on 1280x1024x32. RandomOracle
In case anyway has this problem, I'd like to note that both GTA 3 and Vice City work nicely now that I use Windows 98 compatibility with the games.
