Sirbiznatch007
Hey, I just purchased Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas today. I installed it smoothly. But everytime I try to start the game it says "gta_sa has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL" . Does anyone know what the problem is? I am able to play GTA3 and Vice City. Could it be because I am using Windows Me? If you want to know any information about my computer to help, just ask and tell me how to find it. Thanks in advance. Neo-K 182
Supported Operating SystemsWindows 2000 Professional Windows XP (home or professional) where do you see ME there? you pretty much just wasted your money, the game will not function properly and most likely not even run because your running a non-supported OS. Damnit. I just assumed that since GTA3 and Vice City worked so well on my computer, that I would not have a problem.
Neo-K 182
GTA3 and VC were older games, at the time ME was still popular, hence it was supported. best thing i can tell you to do is just upgrade your OS, not to hard to get an upgrade to 2000 pro disk. and i would not recomened replacing your file with that one you downloaded, messing the the kernel can really really f*ck up your computer. theantidote
Yeah kernel32.dll is not a file you should touch. ME is crap, plain and simple. If your computer can run ME it can most likely run at least Windows 2000 and that is loads better.
Sirbiznatch007
Alright thanks everyone. I am going to upgrade to XP. ME is a crappy OS. I just never saw the need to upgrade untill now.
Tzan
I still use win98se on my computer. Some software that says it only supports 2000/XP really does work on win98. The art program Painter8 for example. So I got GTA-SA and was hoping it would work, and it does. However I got the exact same Kernel32.dll error you did when I tried to start it the second day. The good news is there is a fix, which I got from this forum Solution for win98se (hopefully it will work for you too) In your save game directory you will find the file "gta_sa.set" you need to rename it or delete it. The location of my save game directory- c:\My Documents\GTA San Adreas User Files It put it here by default. The game automatically makes a new gta_sa.set file each time you play so you will need to delete it every time you want to start the game. Also I think your configuration settings are stored here so you will need to reset them every time. I just made a list on paper of which setting I like so I dont even have to think about it, just make the changes. So... thanks to the guys on this forum for the great fix Yes I know I need a new machine Edited June 12, 2005 by Tzan
theantidote
Here I whipped up a batch file for you guys. Just double click this to start GTA:SA. If you installed GTA on a drive other than the C drive you'll have to open this in Notepad and edit it a little. http://s47.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=07I47VW...380WEH7HGZELWT2
