Mortron
Hi there, Does any of you guys know how to lock the camera when driving? For some reason I have to use the mouse while driving in order to see where I'm going and it's really annoying. I have tried messing with the controller settings but can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas? Thanx

Buttoneer
turning on mouse steering locks the camera while driving That is all very well but then you end up having to use the mouse to steer which while fine for driving is not so good for cycles (well, maybe I'm a bit uncoordinated but still...) It just replaces one problem with another. I find this whole game crazy. Why have they messed with any of the controls that they set in Vice City? Jump and sprint have been swapped, the sprint button for running doesn't help CJ to cycle faster (in fact, has anyone worked out how to make CJ 'sprint' on the bike like you're supposed to be able to do? Buttoneer
OK well I'll try that when I get home later, thanks. But my point about messing about with keyboard defaults is valid. One of the reasons why consoles are so great for gaming is that they manage to control the game development process properly. Ostensibly, all driving games on the PS2, for example, use the same keys for accelerate and brake. Recently we have seen on FPS shooters that all games come premapped as WSAD for the normal forward back etc etc and space for jump on the PC. This is a step in the right direction. My point, is that I should not have to remap the keys to match the previous game in the series. Why can Rockstar simply not stick to what they had before? There are not so many new controls in the game that they need to swap sprint and jump and yet they have done it. Why? I can see no good reason why they would need to do this at all. What other games do you know which ise the left shift for jump rather than space? It's just crazy.
david_again
Buttoneer has a point. Why change something that works fine. I find racing through the city isn't that simple as in VC because you have to constantly move the mouse to watch where you're going. Opius
Don't touch the mouse while driving and it will stay locked behind your vehicle.
Erniesan
By the way, uh, you tap W to make CJ "sprint" while on a bike.

Colt.1911
Well Rockstar did the right thing to add the 360 mouse view, but they stumbled at the same time. It should stay locked by default, not just when you have mouse driving on, or they could have put a toggle in options menu. When you press the 'mouse view' key it unlocks the mouse so you can look around, until you release it, I like that alot better than 'look left' 'look right' 'look behind', but no reason for it to be tied to mouse driving. Furthermore I might actally use the mouse driving if it had its own sensitivity setting. I typically have my sensitivity pretty high, this becomes a problem at high speeds when mouse driving, the slightest micro movement spins your car. As far as other controls, I have noticed these things: Going forward/backward in menus such as buying clothes or customizing cars, is quite wrong IMHO. Using enter/exit vehicle to exit, or go back, and sprint to confirm does not make any sense. Even the Reply Yes/No keys would have made more sense. When using the jetpack, your jump key makes you decend. Who the @#$* came up with that idea?? umm, Jump/Up Crouch/Down would have made more sense. I havent been able to get Next/Prev Target to work anywhere, at anytime, with any weapon. I havent found a way to remap a joystick axis. Sprinting on a bike uses the another key instead of the key that has its very own mapping 'Sprint' There should be more options, options, options! I could actually go on a few more minutes, but it ccomes down to this: Game is improperly ported from console to PC. Buttoneer
A fine rant there Colt.911! I've not got to the jetpack but that's going to screw me over I think. it's bad enough when playing the arcade games after remapping certain keys (sprint key = fire in the arcade) While that's great for jumping in game I find that the fire key is still the left shift. It's all wrong. They should allow you to use 'classic GTA:SA keys' as an option. Middle mouse button or one of the side buttons (for multi-button mice) as a 'mouse look' key would be a great and very useful option for shotting, parachuting, pursuits (when you loose sight of your target momentarily) etc etc. But as it stands the control method stinks and i can't see myself playing as far into this game as I did with Vice City unless it changes. RockStar sold out in that sense i think. they need to go back to their roots and start writing for PC only and screw consoles. consoles IMO screw up games. you want options and consoles cant give them to you but PCs can. Buttoneer
OK I tried this solution last night and it works quite well. It doesn't completely solve the problem as mouse behaviour is still very different to that from VC, but it is an improvement over the standard. Damn this lack of consistency. Oh and another funny thing that you pc users do to crack me up is getting angry about how buggy the controls are. example1: not being able to attack multiple victims with the Next/Prev Target feature haha. example2: not being able to remap a joysticks axis haha. example3: getting pissed off about random crashes with the pc version. example4: getting angry because the xbox and ps2 version got multiplayer mode. Anyway it's gameplay > graphics for me but it's probably the other way around for you pc users. The point is quit dissing and worrying about the ps2's graphics and carry on playing your pc version of san andreas and be f*cking greatful that R* even considered porting it to the pc, btw don't expect a response from me on this topic because I don't have time for arguing with pc users who are obessed with the console versions of san andreas.
