truestatic
I almost hate to encourage you to do this, but you might have to delete the San Andreas root directory, the start menu short cuts, and the registry key entries. I imagine you know how to delete the game folder and the short cuts, but if you don't you can ask how. The tricky part is the registry keys. Go to Start>Run>type in "regedit" (without the quotes)>expand My Computer>expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>expand Software>expand Rockstar Games>right click on the San Andreas entry and click delete. The computer no longer thinks San Andreas is installed... but I would delete the San An root directory on your hard drive and the short cuts too if I were you. Do NOT screw around with anything else in regedit if you don't know what you're doing, as you can seriously screw up your computer. So long as you follow the steps above, you should be fine. But it's you're own responsibility if you screw something up. Good luck.
Lazlow
Tanks a bunch TrueStatic. I deleted the games part from the registry which allowed me to try and install again. I chose ignore when i got the error again and its installed ok. Thanks again. Lazlow/Phill
carrythe0
sorry to use this old thread. hope somebody sees this... I get the same "catastrophic failure" when I try to install SA on my desktop. It's at various times during the installation. I tried the above fix of deleting registry entries and choosing to "Ignore" the error when it first comes up, but the installation still crashes. System specs: 1.2G Celeron 512M RAM 5G free disk space GeForce3 200Ti, latest drivers 8x DVDROM I installed completely on my laptop from this same disk after crashing on this PC, so I don't think it's the disk. Is it the celeron processor? I played Vice City all the way through on this machine with no problems. Help!
Sagi_y16
No, it's not a hardware problem, it's a software problem. To tell you the truth, I have no idea on how to fix this... But.. it's a crazy thought, try to install WinRAR there's no harm installing this free small utility anyway. If that won't do it... (go figure) Try updating your windows It's just stuff that seem related, I've no prof that they are related but it just looks like they are to me... oh well...
