Audio Sync and Slowdown SOLVED!

Hope that title doens't mislead anyone who isn't having this problem. I can't edit it now tho, only the text. Mods, change the topic name if you want.

Anyways, I solved the sync problems, and it might be something that's affecting you other people.

The solution lay in a very old problem online. Winxp and 2k incorrectly set the SBlive drivers (and audigy I believe) to EMULATED. The trouble is, it's what directsound uses to remember whether it's hardware or software, and my dxdiag thought I had no hardware buffer.

Try start-run-dxdiag[enter] and look at the "sound" or "sound1" tab. If it says the device is EMULATED then this may work for you, it worked for me.

The only way to fix it is to do a regedit (Start-run "regedit"[enter]

and search for every instance of the entry "Device Presence".

Once there, in each one there should have some or all of the following:

(Default)

Emulated

VxD

WDM

Anyways, in most of these in my registry, VxD and WDM were set to 0, and emulated was set to 1. I modified the values so Emulated read 0 and VxD and WDM read as 1.

You will have to re-run DXDIAG (start-run "dxdiag"[enter]) and set the hardware accelleration back to full and test it.

I retested with dxdiag and the hardware buffer works fine. On top of that, the Sync errors and pops and clicks are completely gone from the game.

Hope this helps you out, and works for people. If you need more explicit instructions for using regedit or dxdiag just ask and I'll post a better guide.

Good luck with this one.

Dave

Bump. I hope this helps at least one person. I was tearing my hair out until I found this.

fantastic! fixed almost all my slowdown. i'm still thinking that the rest of the slowdown is due to my harddrive being slow and old, but doing this registry editing fixed most of it, thanks!

This didn't work for me sad.gif

All of my WDM and VxD settings in the registry were on 1 and Emulated on 0, but I changed all emulated settings to 1 but it didn't work.

Glad to hear it irate pirate!

Sorry about your prob domin8or. The idea was to turn OFF emulated and turn ON wdm and vxd, so this wouldn't have helped you anyways since it was already like that.

Kewel.

WDM is on but still sound issues for me. Maybe I'll lower acceleration.

This worked for me for about 2 hours. After that it said that it couldn't detect my audio card, and when I went and undid those changes it audio comes back, but it is all unsynced again. Any idea why this happens?

Also, now when I try to do it again it will just say it doesn't detect my audio card.

Try leaving the emulated set to 1 as well as setting the others to one.

Also, re-install directx straight afterwards and test it, and your drivers as well.

So far it's working, but it could just be one of those random cutscenes that actually fits together. I'll test it again tommorow morning, but it is getting too late for me to do it tonight.

No luck for me so far, I hope a patch comes out ASAP or someone finds a magical cure. I've searched the forums, done everything in every thread I could find and still no luck.

Hey thanks Overture, this fixed the synch issues I had with the cut scenes. It has caused some slight issues(rain sound bug) to happen occasionly but now I can enjoy the story line of the game as I found that the de-synched cut scenes were unwatchable for me.

It will work when I have nVidia nForce2 motherboard? I have in registry "Emulated", "VxD" and "WDM" default set to 1. So what I must do?

I think this problem is Creative's fault. Some of my friends have built-in audio on their motherboard and they don't have any audio problems. I have also noticed this audio problem in the game 'Boiling Point'. Creative really need to get their drivers sorted out. It's also annoying when you go to Creative's website to install the latest sound drivers, it's very confusing what to download and which one to install first.

My game seemed to run a tad bit better, but I can barely recognize if any of the problems are really gone yet......

This worked for me as the out of synch audio is now right, but now the game crashes back to desk top after a while. I dunno but after making the changes to the "Emulated", "VxD" and "WDM" files, a window popped up saying my sound card didnt support sound buffering. I dont know what to try now. Stupid on board sound!

I have a SigmaTel on board card. sad.gif This is the only game I have ever had trouble with so far.
