theantidote
I see a strange grid of purplish pixels all over the screen whenever I'm playing SA. I think I remember this from VC too, maybe not. Is it supposed to add grittyness or is there something wrong with my video settings?
deftron
Is it like this? http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=194764 Mine are white
theantidote
Nope it's on every pixel and very faint. Also I'm running 16 bit.
Zach
Those artifacts look like a symptom of overclocking. They were particularly a problem with Radeon 9800XT cards, even when running at stock speeds! You can try lowering your memory clock down in 2, 5 or 10 MHz increments and see if it clears up. (ATI will let you do this without installing anything if I remember correctly; with Nvidia, you'll need to "install" the Coolbits reg hack to get access to the clocks. If all fails, go to Guru3D.com and download RivaTuner or something.)
Opius
No, it happens on all games using 16-bit colour. DirectX uses pattern dithering to downscale to 16-bit, resulting in everything looking like arse. Use 32-bit, even if you have to drop the resolution. Zach
*nods* And to be clear, I was actually referring to deftron's screenshots, not theantidote's "purplish tint" description, but now I see theantidote replied as I was typing, so it looks like I was responding to his last post. Aw, just forget it.
