Erniesan
For some odd reason, whenever I play, my box seems to freeze at random times. So far it's happened the first time you come out of the house and go into the car, and then again when going into the car in the first proper mission. Jee
You may want to leave details behind on OS, graphics card and what your detailed graphics settings are. I notice it happening as soon as I try any version of AA on my Windows 2000, Ati 9600 Pro, defragged with Dirms box.
Erniesan
Im running XP Pro SP2 and a Ti4200 with high detail settings and no AA.

System specs: P4 2.4mhz 1 gb RAM ati radeon 9600xt 256mb version all updated drivers game settings: high detail, 1024x768 Amazing game, but the freezes are kind of annoying. stormm12
I guess all we can do at this point is wait for a patch...as long as Rockstar knows about the problem...which I'm sure they do
Erniesan
There has to be something SPECIFIC which causes it. It happens randomly to me when entering mission cars or entering buildings. This is getting REAL annoying. Waited 8 months for it to come out on PC, it finally does, and its f*cked.
ltnl4life
Same here. I just got the game and it freezes on me after 5 min of play. I have P4 3.4 Ghz 1gb RAM ATI All-In-Wonder Graphics Card same thing happen when i had the past GTA and I just gave up after a few months of searching for a fix. Hope this won't happen again. Erniesan
It seems to be happenin like, whenever I enter a mission car, or a building for a mission.
Jee
I just played since my last post without interruption, just keeping AA off. So it must be something with that. Especially seeing that it's all Ati cards that have the problem.
jdawg224
I get random freezes too. Sometimes entering buildings, sometimes jacking a vehicle, and for no reason at all. I'm running on medium settings because my computer sucks, but I guess many people are having this problem too. With all these problems, I think I should go buy or rent the xbox version to statisfy my gta fix.
Erniesan
Nah the AA doesnt seem to make a difference. For me its just whenever I have to get in a car to start doing a mission, or if I have to enter a building to do a mission at some points (like the first gym thing). GLoc
I get them too when driving usually. Just alt+tab out of the window and it will kick back in to play. Then just alt+tab back in to continue. Annoying but it works for me!
Purity Kin
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 512Meg Ram Abit NF7 (nForce2 chipset) Radeon 9600XT 256meg (Cat1lyst 5.2 Drivers) Windows XP - Service Pack 2 Randomly Dies... Whole system just Restarts on its own.. anytime, driving around, walking around, entering, exiting buildings... seems to be no trigger for it, it just dies. Yeah, i bought the game Legit from EB. I even formatted my harddrive, installed windows, drivers and removed windows themes, desktop picture, pretty explorer features and installed GTA:SA just to make sure there is absolutly no other program or possible driver conflict causing it. AA seems to have no affect on causing or reducing the problem, changing video or audeo detail settings also seems to have no affector causing or reducing. I put the video settings all up, the game runs totally fine.. smooth and chrisp.. no problems... just out of nowhere it restarts. UT2004, Half-Life 2, FarCry, Medal Of Honor: Pacific Assault, Republic Commando... hell even the sims 2 all run fine with all settings pumped max. Etenral_Oz
Hey Guys, ive noticed that most of you have ATi Based cards, i have a relatively high end system of AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 1GB OCZ 3200 RAM ATi Radeon 9800XT 256MB Win XP SP2 and what happens to me is that at random times my graphics freeze up and i hear (for example) the cars engine sound over and over, and my ATi card iniates VPU recover, and asks me to send a report etc, im sure you know the stuff. anyway heres a few ideas try The AA thing it works with some (turn it down or off). try setting the GFX down to "High" instead of Very High, i did this and it got better. Turn off VPU recover and the option to send a report (however if you do this it may just make the game freeze and not recover like mine does.) I have Anti-Virus software which sucks up a lot of Resources, try to disable that perhaps and free up memory. it seems to like that! ok thats my lot Cheers guys Oz

Ed.HuNteR
i have had a different problem but the fix may help, try and see. if you set your audio to use "no acceleration" via "dxdiag" (start, run, type "dxdiag" & press enter) on the sound1 tab the game seems to run more stable. i have been playing the game for a few hours with out a crach or restart. or failing that if you use the nvidia audio drives you could try installing the realtek audio codec drivers from the realtek web site this helps the game run stable, but so far i have not had to just used the "no acceleration" setting via dxdiag, and with any luck thats all that will be needed to be done
