biggestloser
i have poser 4 and i modelled a really cool new player model. my question is: how do you convert it to .dff and get it to work ingame? i also modelled some new stripper models. my question is: how do you convert them to .dff and get them to work ingame. i asked these questions seperately because i know they have different processes. i would appreciate your help. EDIT: could you make your instructions step-by-step because i am honestly horrible at technical stuff like this. wiseblood
check the tutorial forum. you should find everything you need there. and yes you can put your models ingame, but i think player models are a lot more difficult to do, thats why there aren't that many around. good luck
Augh
Oh god... Please no invasion of convertionzorzing Poser models >_< I know you said "made"... but you're one guy hehehe. If you gave some technical information about the model it would be more helpful perhaps. It's obviously deformable and such since it's for Poser. What is the polycount? Does it rely on modifiers etc (I have no idea about Poser having steered clear of it), does it require some groovy plug effect to not be bald, stuff like that. The majority of technicalities really are bone/skin related. Avast
biggestloser
i have no idea of the technical specs of it at all. ill send you the model. whats your email address? it will be a .3ds or .max file.
Augh
I'd rather not man, I just donate what directions I can and try to not get involved, and that's in cases where ppl have been scratch makin stuff that took months and shiz. If you don't know these sorta things about the model, I'm kinda lost why you put "I modeled a..." (this involves building the model from triangle 1, basically), but it suggests there are gonna be a large number of technicalities, a lot of learning stuff, and probably lots of eaten time. It's kinda a running thing, I just prefer not to deal in like converted stuff speakin for meself on the side. Sorrys, good luck with your model. Augh
I saw this and went "oh f*ck, poser + GTA = death to any prospect of us being taken seriously T_T" Then realised I'd already posted, twice. I can't believe I had such thick kid gloves on. I dunno who Toughguy is, but I need to nip this in the bud NOW. This isn't going to work. Poser models have a lot of issues... For yourself, I'd find a less random topic to be lost in. A. They look like men, with butch cleft chins and adam's apples because they are modeled f*cking horribly, or by anime freaks, those ones are even scarier. Don't even get me started on the anthro's those are just unholy. B. Most all Poser models are commercial properties which you have to buy or in this case I'd suspect download (...), if you tried to use them for anything other than personal use, that would lead to a big sh*ttrain. I know you said you modeled them, but frankly from what I know of poser (character modeler in training here, but mostly DA is flooded with the sorry creatures is why), that means you selected a few premade outfits to put them in and maybe abused the face texture a little. Are we talking Aiko based sh*t here etc? If Poser can actually handle geometry beyond scaling and such it's news to me. I'm thinking it isn't powerful enough to really do much except what it says on the tin. This might not be the case, but after seeing thousands of god awful Poser "creations" all over the net, to date I've never, ever seen evidence of any geometry work apart from badly scaling tits and buttocks inside of Poser itself. Ever. C. Most poser models while pretty lacklustre for rendering purposes are likely to weigh in prohibitively heavy on polycounts for game applications. GTA can handle a lot, but any mesh over a few K tris (I'm still cutting a 7k mesh down to an acceptable level, she's already half the polys of most Poser creatures or less, and overweight on triangles still) Be the polys an issue for GTA's engine or not, they will be an asshole to rig properly with the required skeleton (yes, you will have to rerig them) by comparison to an optimised game mesh. Please keep the Poser models in Poser where they belong anyone reading this and going "hmmm, I could do that...", it's the only place they belong. If you did do any modeling in Poser, as you said, modeling in any other program from scratch won't be an issue. And I have no earthly idea why ANYONE would choose Poser as their model weapon of choice. It's like going to war wielding a haddock. I'm scared already T_T Edited September 14, 2005 by Augh
biggestloser
1. I hate using 3D Studio Max to build people. Such a pain in the ass. And I hate importing the Poser models into 3D Studio Max bacause it won't let me even though I have all the plugins necessary. 2. Poser 6 (which I recently bought) has MUCH higher quality models and they are VERY VERY accurately designed. You can scale anything VERY realistically. But I've given up after months of trying to import them. That annoying "Unhandled Exception" message got me too pissed off. Please lock.
Augh
You're serious? Well yeah it figures that importing premade models is easier than modeling them, that's pretty straightforwards. If you're liking the Poser models though, well, there's not much I can do for you Take a look at any vaguely serious cg sites where high resolution or even current gen game level models are being displayed and you may be in for a surprise, honestly. I'm not entirely sure a scale tool that can be assigned to buttocks and racks and such to wang them up and down, and a base raytracer if that (that's if they now HAVE a raytracer) really stands up against a full suite of 3d modeling and imaging tools, mental ray/brazil/vray/final render/renderman functionalities (including SSS displacements bumps normals blah blah so on and so forth), all the basics of xyz, hot raunchy sideways uvw action, and all the rest on offer in a more serious program. Sure Poser is probably nice for playing with mediocre "assets" if you're into that sorta thing, but yeah, I don't know how you're equating one to the other. Poser importing and player modding I'm meaning. Gotta love those manly cleft chins and janky proportions though, they're c c craaazy I'd agree with the loxx really
