It's my parents but they don't live in this country so I pretty have much free reign over their Ghost. They come back once every couple of weeks though so it's usually for airport duty. Other than that they have a Toyota Alphard that is their "daily" when they're back. When they're not though, they have a couple of Nissan Patrols that they like to use to get around (my Dad spends a lot of time visiting his different construction projects hence the need for something off-road capable). I also heard them talking about picking up a Phantom but I don't know when that will be.

as small countries go, they're certainly not destitute. but most of their economic prowess is thanks to exclusive business dealings with China (Chinese Taipei) and it's all very recent. nearly 200 billion dollars China has pumped into Taiwanese businesses since the 90's.

I don't know where you're getting this information from but the rise of the Taiwanese economy predates that of China. Taiwan is a top 20 economy and was one of the Four Asian Tigers (the other three being; Hong Kong, South Korea, and Singapore), with the economy undergoing significant change starting from the 60s. The exclusive business dealings with China you mention is all relatively recent, within the last 15 - 20 years. Even so, the business dealings with China were to establish cheaper bases of manufacturing (think Foxconn, Taiwanese company manufacturing in China), but in recent years has pivoted towards exports. Being in such close proximity to China, it'd be stupid for Taiwan not to have taken advantage of the rise of China. My family made our money manufacturing tennis racquets (and our patents on tennis racquet tech that is still being used today), and then later we were Ford of Taiwan which led to my Grandparents having dinner with Henry Ford II (just had to throw that in there as I thought that was cool as hell).

I didn't mean to imply that Taiwan's rise only started at that point, but that it wasn't without aid.

the change you're referring to in the 60's was largely made possible by US investments that were aimed at balancing out Taiwan's inflation after the Korean War. everything you said is also true, obviously. my only point is that in spite of Taiwan's intense economic boom that doesn't mean everybody is driving around in Rolls-Royce, either.

 

it's a small country but that kind of influx of wealth often produces more imbalance, than balance.

I wasn't trying to be politically correct when I said "poor." it's pretty sweet that your family made their way into the upper class. at least they did so by creating things that people enjoy instead of like, I dunno, selling weapons or something

If i were you, i would paint those steelies matte black, goes along a lot better with the black bump strips on the side.

Finally decided to replace my original, cracked, pitted & faded headlight lenses with my new ones I got a few months ago along with the headlight seals. Then I decided out of boredom to paint my projector shrouds black... because why not?

 

Edit: I also did a common 'airbox mod' which involves drilling a 3" hole in the side of the intake box (on the opposite side of the engine - down by the fender). Adds a bit more intake noise, a nice growl in between 3000 - 4000rpm & my exhaust sounds a bit deeper now so for a 10 minute mod I'm pretty impressed lol.

Rather than remove the side strips I might colour code them. Same for the black bits on the bumpers too.

I'm on the lookout for some but I don't wanna spend too much money on this car. I'd like to sort out the handling first, but it's not too bad at the moment with a 30mm drop and oem anti roll bars.

Here is a pre facelift k11 micra. Same shell but I prefer the smoother bumpers and lights.

So I wasted my entire day fiddled with carburetors all day today...

This is all on my friends '77 Chevette.

 

 

Before I showed up he had already put the new one on, deemed it improper, and taken it back off.

So what does he go and do? Puts the old one back and the problems begin...

First it was getting no fuel, then he botched it and it started getting too much...

By the end of the day, we had taken both the old and new carburetor and rebuilt one hopefully working one that won't be tested until tomorrow.

 

Bonus pictures from working on the differential last week.

 

 

Won't have any pictures of my car(s) until Monday.

After I finished washing my car, I decided to wash two of my new wheels (well, new to me - I'm pretty sure the wheels themselves are older than both me and my car) and line them up to get a preview of how they'll look. Second pic came out darker than I realized, but I'm too tired to go back out and line the shot up again.

 

 

The imperfections on the lips get really obvious up close:

 

Yeah, they're not perfect, but for $200 I wasn't expecting perfect. I know gold wheels are kind of gaudy (and gold mesh on Bimmers have been done to death) but I fell in love with these when I first saw them and I still love how they look now. I can't mount them until the next time I can get Potenzas for 50% off (one perk of having a family member that works for Bridgestone), and the waiting is driving me nuts.

 

Oh, I also replaced the front side markers with smoked lenses. I'm still trying to decide what to do with the rears - I think I'll smoke them too, but use amber bulbs.

@Pat: I think those gold wheels look brilliant, just the right dimensions and just the right gold shade to complement the car. The lip is worth the effort of refurbishing in my opinion.
