Here's the Benz in one piece, now featuring what I believe is a shot transmission.

interior of a sensible car tounge.gif

Stick-on clock FTW! tounge.gif I used to have a stick-on clock, but the Summer heat killed it. Luckily the aftermarket stereo I had installed (Sirius Satellite Radio!) has a clock.

'Tis actually a thermometer!

..and a clock

It just came stuck on there Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

Cleaned the Citroen and took a couple of photos of it. Overall I like it, the Sensodrive box is going to take some getting used to especially pulling out at roundabouts.

the Sensodrive box

suicidal.gif why did you get that? From my experience with cheaper manumatic mode boxes, they're complete sh*t and most of the month has gone buy before they finally find the next gear.

I'd much rather have a manual box. It just happens that this car was up for sale at the right time for a good price. The Sensodrive isn't completely awful but it is slower than I'd like and not ideal when it comes to pulling out into gaps at roundabouts.

Someone please explain sensodrive to an American. I only know manual gearboxes and I've heard of some kinds of weird automatics but sensodrive is new to me.

From what I understand it seems like sensodrive is some kind of automated manual transmision. When you want to change the gear, you're using lever, but it just a signal to some electronic equipment that controls actual transmision and clutch that you would like to change it. Electronics decide when it will happen and it's automatically increasing or decreasing rpms, turning on the clutch and changing the gear.

I always though Sensodrive was a CVT transmission, not an imput-controlled auto.

I don't like the way the driver side tires are mounted. I know it's technically a non directional tread pattern, but it still looks weird when the left and right ones aren't matching. I always thought they looked normal with the inside tread blocks facing forward instead of the outside ones. IE, I like the way the passenger side looks.

Kind of funny, I always thought the same thing, even the you usually see them mounted like the drivers side.

I'll eventually be taking them off to strip and paint the wheels, at which point I'll have them mounted up so they're all facing the same direction.

My baby came back from the panel beater today. Some asshole smashed my driver door a few months ago (without leaving their details, which was pretty lame of them), so I'm stoked to have it back to looking as good as new.

Which TSI engine is that? I've had a bit of a hoon in a remanded 1.2 TSI and driven a few of the twincharged 1.4s.

The 1.2. The 1.4's the GTI isn't it? Unfortunately I'm not allowed to drive the GTI while I'm on my probationary licence (hence the obnoxious P-plate on my windscreen and rear window), but the 1.2 goes despite the engine being pretty small. Mind you, the car itself is about as heavy as a feather.

What? Where do you live? They regulate what model/trim cars you can or can't drive?

I live in Australia. Each state has its own regulations as to what cars can be driven on probationary licences (I don't get my full licence until September 2016; initially it was meant to be February 2016 but they delayed the onset of my full licence because of a licence suspension I incurred a few months back from enjoying the car too much tounge.gif). These cars are restricted for P-plate drivers (this is taken from VicRoads' website):

A vehicle that:

• has an engine with eight cylinders or more, or

• has an engine that is turbocharged or supercharged (except those listed in the probationary vehicle database). There are also some lower powered turbocharged or supercharged vehicles which have been exempted and can be operated by a probationary driver who has been given an exemption by VicRoads. Refer to lower performance turbocharged or supercharged vehicles and the probationary vehicle database for more information

• has an engine that has been modified to increase the vehicle's performance (other than a modification made by the manufacturer in the course of the manufacture of the vehicle, or

• a nominated high performance six cylinder engine (refer to the probationary vehicle database).

Previously, a car had to have no more than eight-cylinders, and could not have a power-to-weight ratio of more than 125kw/tonne, but they changed that regulation in 2007. Now it's pretty discretionary, as you can see by how relatively broad some of the regulations are. I've been pulled over a few times by police just so they can check my engine to see whether it's p-legal or not, primarily because the Polo is turbocharged (albeit is low-powered), and also to check if there are any illegal modifications.

The 1.2 TSI is legal; the 1.4 (GTI) isn't. Of course, though, when you have a full licence you can drive anything. Australia's not that much of a police state. tounge.gif

So we had traded our Z in for a Pathfinder back in August right? Well, we're now trading that in for a 2013 Altima 3.5 SL. I'll post pictures when we getz it.

And we're getting it today.

I don't know about the other users, but I bought my car as an "used car", and it was really cheap.

Man you guys are rich...

Don't know where you're from, but it's not hard to save up for a car in America.

In Ireland most people that are around my age (19-23) drive quite decent cars. I'm just unfortunate to be in college and not work, that's why I don't own anything nice.

It's all about the insurance. That's the pain.

Just to name a few:

- 2005 Volkswagen Passat B6 TDI

- 2006 Audi A3 1.9 TDI

- 2004 BMW 320ci

- 2007 Opel Astra 3dr

I bet its not hard...it seems to be easy to earn money everywhere in the US. Also cars seem to be way cheaper and also electronics. If id like to buy a used car which would cost under 2000 euros and would be in a good condition then i would have to save money at least two years. Im in my final grade at school so working is also not a real option. Only jobs are summerjobs and i don't earn that much money from there. Maximum was last year when i eaned 500 euros...and with bad karma it went all down to buy a new laptop.

E: Insurance isnt a problem in my country, they are not pay-till-your-dead high. But to buy cars on your list??? Damn. I mean my mom drives a reasonably "new" car, a 06 Mazda 3, that was 6000 euros something. To me, thats incredibly expensive. To see young people drive those, i would just think they drive their parents cars. My friend has a 06 Seat Leon which he got from his mom, because she bought a brand new Passat CC, thats the first one, before facelift. I mean, to me, thats just lucky to drive around in such a car. People in my school drive around in 90s cars mostly, Audis and Opels and VWs. Some richer kids have newer cars, to bring out the best, one has a 2010 Audi A8...

E2: Chris Fromage, how much was your car and what do you exactly call cheap?

If I would buy a totally new one that wasn't used, I would have paid 40 000 €. (I calculated it to € smile.gif ). I bought it for a bit less then 8000 €. And it is still in perfect condition.
