Why would you lie about having those BMWs? Did the people who own those cars find out?

Anyway it is a little sad that you chose to lie but at least you came clean.

No idea, why I would lie. To be honest I'm trying to figure it out myself. Why lie about owning a machine...

Yeah, they did. I'm quite embarrassed about the whole situation, but maybe it'll prevent me from ever pulling off something like that again.

I imagine you're getting enough flak and awkwardness IRL for this already so I don't think there's any need for that here.

This is quite the drama for vehicle chat, isn't it? lol.gif

I don't think €118 is enough.

Like I said the Cadillac came home today. It is my fathers new car, replacing the LTD Crown Victoria. Some would call it a stupid choice for a family car these days but hey, sometimes you've just got to buy with your heart.

Yeah, new plates are on the way, those old taxi ones look stupid. I've only driven it a few miles but my god what a fantastic car to drive. Solid as an anvil too. The 5,7 gets up and goes for such a big car.

Garfield, no worries man! Kudos for coming clean. smile.gif

Looks very classy, I like the chrome panels on the side.

I would remove that "Insured by OLT" bumper sticker straight away though, it is spoiling the look.

Having driven multiple fleetwoods\bro-hams of that bodystyle, I gotta say the 350 will decently move the car. The 307 and 305 ones are complete turds. Never driven an early 425 or 368 one or a 4100 version so don't know how they'd compare. My friends 350 fleetwood is the newer bodystyle and weighs 200 lbs more with the same engine and it will move. It's no LT1 but it gets it done.

Also you're gonna hate the plastic between the body and taillights when it starts to rot

I can't see why you'd bother in the first place, looking through your posts you even put stuff about bank balances and MPG.

@Illousion - Nice Caddy. What are you going to do with the Crown Vic?

Eh , with the exchange rate on the the day I bought mine, what I payed for mine equaled out to 122 gbp. So definitely possible with some luck and lunch money.

Same here. I got my Cordoba for about that price...huge land yacht with a Mopar 400ci in it. Sucked gas like a bitch.

So am I the only person here that actually still owns a BMW now?

I thought you sold it? I thought everyone sold theirs. Black-hawk used to have an E34 and E39 but has a benz now. Pav used to have E38's. Some guy had an E34 and has a Benz now. Some other guy had E21's. I guess Cran still has an E39 but he hasn't been on here in years.

Find me a deal like you got and I'll own one too. Hell, for what you payed, I wouldn't care if the engine and transmission were gone. There's probably at least 50 350s sitting at the local scrapyard, and finding a manual behind one shouldn't be hard.

350 as in SBC? Good luck finding a manual that isn't a wide as f*ck ratio truck muncie. Not to mention SBC's in a bmw is sacrilege. You put that sh*t in volvos that had sh*t motors to begin with.

Hell, a decent used M30b35 and G260/5 package out of my own car is only 400 bucks online. Hell, my 535 is down 2 cylinders and 2.3 liters smaller than a 350 yet makes about 10 more hp than your average stock 350 of the same year (aside from the HO corvette/Z28/Trans am 350's with the various trick fuel injection systems). Hell it makes the same power as my friend's TBI LO5's in his 2 88 Chevys and his 93 Cadillac. And the BMW engine will outlast any SBC. Serious tank motors when it comes to longevity.

It's not something I had looked into, just assumed OEM replacements would be expensive. (Look at me stereotyping German auto manufacturers based on little to no personal experience.)

One reason I was thinking 350 was replacement parts. There's maybe 15 BMWs at the scrapyard, so I can't imagine finding one with the same drive train as whatever my hypothetical purchase has would be easier than finding a 350.

Either way, it being a secondary vehicle that's a small car, makes decent power and has a stick, I'd be beating the f*ck out of it.

Come to think of it, I think I did spot a what looked like a late 80s vette at the scrapyard. Might check it out tomorrow if I'm not working. If nothing else I could probably take a few parts to sell and make a little money.

Well no parts are as cheap as pre-LT1/Vortech SBC parts. They're the cheapest things ever. BMW parts are about 3 times as expensive. I mean, an autolite destributor cap is something like 25 bucks for a pre-vortec/lt1 350. The same cap for my bmw is around 75 for the cheapest autolite and 100+ for oem bosch.

But the car has literally been so reliable that I've barely had to spend any money on replacing parts. My friends L05 350's on the other hand have been giving him a lot of problems. Chevy stuff is so cheap that it's more or less throwaway and made to be replaced fairly often.

There is nothing different about putting an sbc in anything. Its the automotive cliche of a lifetime. There's quite a few sbc powered e28's and e30's out there. Boring.

I was curious playa, defensive much?

Just didn't seem like an overly huge deal to me. It's neat but I don't see why you got that excited over a Caprice that GM decided to stick a stock BMW V12 in.

I'd rather have one of the more affordable, easy to work on engine in the Caprice, but I guess if I was you it wouldn't matter much since you've got guys to do all that menial sh*t for you.

Now if that engine had some tuning, I may have used bold letters as well.

Wasn't there some Sweedish dude that put a BMW V12 into some older GM with a ton of custom work in it. Now that was a cool car.

Also, depending on engine, those Caprices only had 105-185 hp stock, depending on the engine. The 296-322 hp of the V12, even totally stock, would flat out make that thing scoot. I'd dig it, until I had to get it worked on and looked at the repair bill.

Exactly.

I'm sure it would be a fun car, but for me it would probably go from fun to nightmarish all too quickly.

Sorry I snapped at you, didnt mean for it to be so.

I just always like old cars with new things inside them. You also have to remember I'm not like you guys, I focus on the aesthetic in cars as I don't know anything about engines or transmissions etc.

effin hell, my car's still being fixed... Turns out the ECU is much harder to replace than it seems to be.

I got a 2012 Skoda Octavia as a rental however, pretty nice.

Do you guy get the Superb? Its the first Skoda I like

You mean could I get the Superb? Probably not. I was going to rent a Polo, but they didn't have any, rented a focus, but the immobiliser on it broke and I got this Octavia now. Costs me as much as the Polo haha.
