One thing that's impressive is you started out with a car that was one of the cheaper, slower cars of its time (Mirage was more or less the Accent of the Mitsu world in our market) and now you've got one of the quickest, best handling cars on this board (probably more or less in the same league as TLC's 370Z. Outcast's 200 mph Bentley still has everyone beat in sheer speed). Pretty impressive just comparing the before and after.

@yngwierocks, would have sounded a bit better if you weren't short shifting. Still pretty nice though. The Challenger is probably the only classic muscle revival that I'd consider purchasing if I had the chance.

@BCspeed, I can't wait till you're done with that. It's been so long since you started it, it's gonna be awesome to see the finished product.

I almost feel like that's an unfair comparison. Putting money up against passion, patience, a lot of hard work. I'm much more impressed with the Mirage Evo.

It's way more impressive for sure, just like a transformer should be.

Built not bought baby.

The Bentley is still a sweet car though, of course.

I'm sure a lot more passion, patience and hard work went into the Bentley. Just not my own. tounge2.gif

In all seriousness though, I do agree as well. To take something old and worn and to transform it slowly into a better machine, blood and tears along the way. That stirs something within the human soul. To be honest, I've followed a manufacturer-knows-best mentality. Anything worth having in your car should be available as an option, no more no less. If I'm going to be spending £80,000+ on a car, I don't want to have to change anything on it or tweak the system. It should be the way the client wants it when it leaves the dealership.

Well there's probably quite a few Viper, higher-end Vette, Porsche, and NSX owners that feel differently. But only because a lot of the parts they want aren't can't really be ticked on the original spec sheet. By that I mean, various OEM trick racing parts.

I was referring to cars in general, of course there are exceptions. I'm sorry I didn't make that clear enough. Of course if you're purchasing a car based on performance or to fulfil a certain task (eg. track days) then its certain you're going to be putting in all sorts of stuff not on the manufacturer options list.

Yeah, I get you. Like a car like a Rolls or a Bentley, I certainly expect perfection of from the showroom floor.

1998 Ford Mondeo GLX 2.0 16v, it's had two previous owners, its done 120000mi and it drives perfectly, it's an automatic unfortunately but i got the car for practically nothing so can't really complain, besides just f*cking look at my old car haha

Front tyres bald or what?!

*produces EFPN book*

I'm just messing, I'm sure there's 1.6mm of tread depth there tounge.gif My dad had one of these cars when I was about 11/12 brand new, loved it as a nipper biggrin.gif

I'm too scared to spin the front tires, petrols gone up again! I've already been pulled over three times since i've got this car, two drug searches and one cause i forgot to put my lights on pulling out of a garage forecourt, the officer who pulled me at the garage was a genuine bloke and let me go on my way, the other officer were all absolute bellends so i asked for stop forms, the first time they had ran out and told me to report to the station if i wanted one and the other gave me one and circled the drugs icon on it. I'm going to keep all the ones i get given and make a collage of them that i will keep in my car and show to the next officers who pull me over, i hope they appreciate the gesture.

Hmm, now that to me sounds like the previous owner was a bit dodgy and some PNC markers have been added against the VRN, so each time you go past a traffic car it pings the ANPR - actually talk to somebody at your local nick about this!

It belonged to my grandad who drives everywhere 10mph under the limit and the other owner before that was of a similar age, my grandad didn't get pulled over once in the 4 years he had the Mondeo so i do actually doubt that, i think it's down to the fact i'm a young male in Liverpool, the police assume everyone my age (20) is a criminal so i think i'll just have to grit my teeth and bear it. Thanks for the concern though mate icon14.gif

I think Merseyside Police need to read the MacPherson report (won't bore you on it) but it said stereotyping based on age, colour or gender shouldn't happen! I might suggest if it persists arranging a meeting with the Assistant Chief Constable/Commander policing operations about it, because it won't just be you they're tugging or start with a letter to them explaining why it's annoying you and if they could use their discretion a bit more!

Funnily enough though I was driving through Birmingham the other day (funnily enough to get to work!) and West Mids pulled me in my focus, had a look of horror on his face and asked me "Where did you get that top from" (referring to my black cycle shirt thing with 'POLICE' on the sleeves) - anyway he tells me he stopped me because I was wearing black at 2300 and was driving slowly (read to the speed limit because I saw a traffic car!) and he wanted to search my car - he doesn't tell me what for or go through GOWISELY (the requirements for a search), a bit naughty of me but my warrant card comes out "Actually mate, don't bother with that I'm late enough as it is!" - the look on this chap's face, his female colleague who was about half his age went bright red too. It is a city cop thing, if they look slightly like they're up to no good they probably are!

But yes, as mad as it sounds - try dressing like a raving homo see if they pull you then tounge.gif (That was a joke lol, I am a raving homo and I still get stopped!)

It's the budget, cheap quality version of the Mark IV Golf, with an extended wheelbase - that's why it's a liftback and not a hatchback.

The interiors on them are pretty grim, but as a car the Octavia is fab. The vRS is a properly fast car, quick enough to embaress most 6-pot 3-series of its era. I think a modified one holds obe of the land speed records at Boniville, something like 230mph.

Yeah, but then you can buy the V6 4motion Golf or even the R32.

Not sure where you're getting that from. It IS a hatchback and has more in common with a VW Passat / Audi A4. The engine is directly from an Audi TT.

Parts are incredibly expensive - last year a pair of front springs cost me £300. I could have bought a whole suspension kit for my old car at that price suicidal.gif

Mine isn't - I've got half-leather seats, nice fabrics all round, decent dials & lighting... and that's standard.

Because a vRS will get you much cheaper insurance simply because it has a Skoda badge.

I've got an Octavia too, although mine is the Laurin + Klement model.

Leather heated, cruise, ac, sunroof, 8 speaker sound, electric everything.

I would say the interior is pretty nice actually.

Wrong. It's a liftback.

5-door Liftback

It doesn't have more in common with a Passat and an A4.

A4 platform cars (Typ numbers in brackets):

    Audi TT Mk1 (8N)

    Shanghai-VW Lavida

    VW New Beetle (1C/1Y/9C)

What the f*ck is a hatchback then?

I'm pretty sure it's just when the boot of the car is shared with the passenger compartment and the rear screen opens up with the metal. As opposed to just a boot which is sealed off from the passenger compartment and the rear screen is seperate.

That's what I've always thought of a hatchback as.

If it has a separate trunk/boot, it's not a hatchback.

Hatchback - window lifts with tailgate.

Saloon - only tailgate lifts.

So yes, it IS a hatchback.

Yes it does have more in common with the Passat and A4 - some parts of the Bora in terms of looks. Many of the parts on my car have the Audi logo emobossed on them (brake callipers for example). The Golf is nothing like my car... whether its looks, handling, parts... or whatever.

It does have an Audi TT engine - it looks identical. The reason it's different is due to the configuration and setup - there are small part changes, but it is still 99% a TT engine.

Ahhh, I see it now after looking at other pictures, that was just a bad angle.

It's the same overall shape as the regular one, that's what threw me off. icon14.gif

Let me just say, that is the most pointless f*cking hatch I have ever seen in my life.

You can get that engine in a Golf/Bora as well..

132 kW (179 PS; 177 bhp) @ 5,500 rpm; 235 N·m (173 ft·lbf) @ 1,950-5,000 rpm — AJQ, APP, ARY, ATC, AUQ, AWP, BEK, BNU (North America only), BBU (UK)

Volkswagen Golf Mk4 GTI, VW Bora/Jetta, New Beetle, Audi A3, Audi A4, Audi TT Mk1 (8N), Škoda Octavia vRS, SEAT León, SEAT Toledo, VW Polo GTI.

I don't like the pre-2005 Skodas. They were cheap, looked cheap and felt cheap. If I was going to buy a 180hp VAG car, I'd go for either a Golf or an Audi A3. I'd even go for a SEAT Leon.
