It's coming along nicely man, good job!

--

Took it out for a drive today. It's been sitting for a month or so in ~-18C. Started without hesitating. Since I'm still only a learner my father (or someone who's had a license for 5 years) has to ride along.

The crome around the headlight has fallen of, it's in the garage. The light housing on this side is made of plastic, gotta find one made out of metal. Also gonna change the fenders, because as you can see, they're done for.

1.8 liters of Swedish history. Runs real quiet for an old engine.

Never really finished putting the interior back together. It's going out again this summer anyways.

After driving around my father felt like drifting it. I'm well aware of the bad fit on the passenger door, I'm looking for two new ones as these are also done for.

On the 6th of November this year I wont have to drive around with this sign or with anyone else. I can't f*cking wait.

I can't get over how awesome this tall shifter is.

Don't let the pictures fool you, I take good care of it and usually don't drive it like I stole it, but you gotta have some fun sometimes. tounge.gif

They don't drive Corollas. (Maybe they did before) Now all they drive are White Integras, White Mirages (Colts) and white 1.4 Civic Type-Rs haha smile.gif

Not even that, now they drive riced out Micra's literally 2cm from the ground, and Corsa's with turbochargers in them. Absolutely f*cking wrecking my head because i live next to an industrial estate that they like to use as a drag strip.

Few pics of my Mk.1 Fiesta as it's being restored.

For anyone who's interested:

My Fiesta was manufactured in 1983, the last year of the Mk1 Fiesta, before the Mk2 came out, replacing the beautifully simple and reliable OHV engine. Mine is the smallest of the Fiestas, with a 957cc lump in it and a 4 speed gearbox, manual choke, of course. I picked it up last June for just £50 as something of a favour to a friend of my Dad's. Since then, we've pretty much taken everything out of it for a large amount of welding and body filling, all of which is done now, thankfully. Runs sweet as a nut, starting up straight away, even in the cold. Only engine work I've have to do is changing the plugs and adjusting the tappets. I had it resprayed a couple of weeks back for a mere £110 as another favour and I'm happy with the results. It's pretty much ready for the road, I just need to find a new interior and un-seize a caliper and I'll be able to drive it (Once I've passed my test suicidal.gif ).

Anyway, pictures:

Orange peel. Not very perdey.

A bit of wet sanding would probably fix it up some.

Indeed. From my experience (admittedly mostly on bikes) it seems to come about when the primer or undercoat is exposed to ambient moisture. When I rattle-canned my race bodywork I left it in my utility room to harden when I'd primed it and got a very good finish. Might have to sand back down to bare metal/plastic/whatever surface material is there and re-prime with the bumper off the car to get a properly good finish, especially if there's any filler in the surface material (which tends to absorb moisture).

Edited to add- unfortunately it appears to be in an area of the car that can't be readily detatched, unlike the above assessment. Know anyone with some decent high-power electric heaters you can borrow and leave in the garage whilst the primer cures?

If you are referring to this area of paint:

Then that is where the body work has had a layer of protective Schutz sprayed on, underneath the primer and paint. It's going to have a layer of black painted over it and it will look much better. Anyway, I'm off to put the new XR2 interior into it.

Ah, okay. I was wondering how that could have gotten so bad while the rest of the paint looked good.

Yeah, I dig the Fiesta. I even dig the bedliner type stuff on the front. Seems like it would make a great starter car. Cheap, old, simple, and underpowered.
