kionna
that's one of the bugs that was fixed apparently so what does the warning messages about frame limiter off in the readme file all about.. is it just talking about dipping and varying fps then?? isnt that how all games are?? no game runs at a constant fps on the pc.. confusing
qda
gta is much more erratic than other games... my fps will range from 90 to 30... dont know of any other games that do that... i mean, if a game runs at 90 fps for me most of the time, it usually doesnt fall below 60 except for a split second now and then, whereas gta will run CONSISTENLY bad or good depending where you are really... i heard that some people still get texture problems with the limiter off though.... but its 'supposed' to have been fixed
typoEDR
I've been scanning through most of the /data files and I can't find anything regarding frame limiter (which I wish was actually 30 FPS [Rockstar? Patch!] or extending the draw distance even further.
Legoguy
Hi; First off, I want to say I'm new here. Hello. I wanted to add that some fishy things do still come up without the frame limiter - such as wacky polygon effects on some cars (such as the lowriders). That's all I've really noticed and turning the frame limiter on fixed it... although I don't see it anymore with the limiter off.. might have been a random bug. Anyway, it's my thoughts that more than likely this limiter is hard capped at 25; meaning you can't change it without figuring out in the exe file where it's stored or managing to pry the source from Rockstar and change the value and recompile it yourself (the first method being the only remotely possible one). reldavidson
Guys, i am really suprised that this has even come up - have none of you read the manual. Well on the UK manual page 6 it says: "Normally the frame rate of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is capped at 30 frames per second"

qda
Guys, i am really suprised that this has even come up - have none of you read the manual. Well on the UK manual page 6 it says: "Normally the frame rate of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is capped at 30 frames per second" the readme ALSO says its 30 fps but its wrong many other sources, including myself checking, confirm that its 25 fps with the frame limiter
reldavidson
Ahh - i didn't realise that, apologies then . Well 25fps isn't too bad, 30fps is what i would call normal gaming; i am a bit suprised that rockstar got it wrong in the manual. I dont know much about coding/modding. Hopefully there will be a patch that includes this and the MANY buys that have not only been annoying my computer but many other gta'ers computers too. dertyjerzian
Can anyone even tell us what the cfg files are called in the SA root or data folder or even give us the contents so we can look through it and see if there's anything in there to spot? the root folder only contains dll and exe files except for one .ini file which has this in it: memory 13500devkit_memory 13500vehicles 12pe_lightchangerate 0.0005pe_lightingbasecap 0.35pe_lightingbasemult 0.5pe_leftx 16pe_topy 16pe_rightx 16pe_bottomy 16dontbuildpaths the \data\ folder has lots of .dat files, some .ide, one .cfg .zon and .sc and .txt files, but none seem to have anything to do with frame limiter can anyone explain this file? i found it on my mown before finding this thread and changed 13500 and the other 13000 ish number, didnt do anything i noticed, wanna figure out what i can do witt his file, thanks. Ballasripper
I had the same situation, fast pc but huge slowdowns at some places, the only reason was the visual fx, only "low" there turns the realtime shadows off and they are the problem and reason for the massive slowdowns. I guess also with a FX-57 + R520 Card the slowdowns would still appear if the fu... Realtimeshadows are on, thats silly "PC-Killer-Nonsens" from Rockstar. It's no a big loss and i dont miss them but love my stable framerate now, even with 10x DrawDistance mod. Yeah a limiter to 30 oder better 35 would be good, but without the shadowsh*t no one really needs you have always more than this on a good PC. Stretchnutter
I cant give you the EXE file... so heres a tutorial on how to change it yourself. First you will want to make sure you backup gta_sa.exe These instructions are for the USA version 1.0* Download HIEW here: http://www.serje.net/sen/ Unzip then run HIEWDEMO.EXE Browse to gta_sa.exe and load it You should see a bunch of wierd text. Press F4 then select 'Decode'. Now it should look like something familiar to you ASM heads. to change the frame limiter: press F5(goto) then type ".00619626" without the parenthesis. Press Enter. you should see the value 1E highlighted (dec 30) press F3(edit) and type in the 1 byte hex value of how many fps you want. (eg; hex 28 = dec 40) then press F9(save) and finally F10(quit) your changes are permanent... its suppose to be 30 fps for some strange reason its 25 so what you do he is simply change this value, the higher the number the more fps... i set it to 60 and i was getting constant 42 fps... strange but hey it works just play with the numbers till you find something you like if you want to disable the intro with the same tool, check out this thread: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...dpost&p=2897207

Stretchnutter
i tried that number and "1E" hex = 28 doesnt show up, its different... may only work with the nocd patch... i think the original exe is encrypted. you should just see "1E" not 28 you can replace it with 28 if you want... Tetram
Hi, I'm french, and in the european version, the address of the value to change doesn't seems to correspond. Can you make a screen of HIEW before doing the modification ? I guess there's only a few lines differents between US and European version, so I'll browse in the file until I find the rights bits. Thanks a lot for your help Edited July 24, 2005 by Tetram

derty
Could anyone please tell me how to do it now in August 2007? In the meantime HIEW demo version which only allows files up to 150kb, and San Andreas is 15MB. In other words: that's not going to work... Create a new thread, please avoid bumping old ones. I'd like to know the same thing; here we are almost a year later. Who are you to tell us what to bump or not bump? He did the right thing, and you were a mere 20 days old when you posted that, who are you? You think you're a mod or something? Why start new topics when the answer you seek will be found here? Why start new topics when it will just clutter this place up even more? You going to get smart with Me next about it after I just searched for ages just to find something about it? I sure hope not Not *exactly* sure this is what I need; but I just tried hiew and as stated above, doesn't work anymore. What I need is to just force my frame rate up above 30, preferably to 40 or higher. Can timecyc really help with that? I thought the framelimit was hardcoded? I play on Low settings for my own preference anyway (anything higher looks kind of stupid in san andreas when I look) and I'd like to push it beyond the 25 on/30 max FL off limit. Thanks in advance

lil weasel
Only two settings for Frame Limiter in the game 'On' or 'Off'. If you want to do something more you should look into the Modding Forums. Bumping is ok if you have something Substantial to add. Technical questions should have their own topic as further questions regarding the Specs of a computer will be unique to the that question, usually.
