arkham
Hi Guys, first post here hope you can help Just installed, all drivers up to date (and i mean all) I've also been through every single thread on here and can't find an answer as I don't like to trouble you unecesserily. I load GTASA then it shows the first splash screen, then the nvidea logo, then the two logos. It even plays the opening cradits all the way through with no sound or graphical problem It then goes to the loading splash screen and the screen goes dim, then it comes back again, then quits to desktop with the usual "sa_gta.exe has experienced a problem and needs to shutdown" blah blah blah. I tried altering the ASF and AA to no avail. I've tried everything and i'm at a loss, it seems that other people are in the same boat as me, if you have rectified the problem PLEASE post here. I wouls love to play the game at least once lol. ultraflip
Finally someone with the same problem. It looks like this problem is more special than the usal "OMG MY CAMERA TURNS AROUND" crap. Whatever, I've got the same problem, with the slight difference that my game crashes right after the Rockstar logos. No intros oder loading screens, I get to see the EAX logo, the nvidia logo, the two rockstar logos and BANG, "sa_gta.exe has experienced a problem and needs to shutdown" blah blah blah. I dont have any idea what to do. Our systems don't seem to be very similar to each other either. I've got a Shuttle Barebone with intel chipset, GF 6600 GT Agp 128, 1230 Ram, newest drivers for everything, Xp Prof SP2. I bought the game today, It's a german version. Just in case it has something to do with the cd protection I also tried out a crack but of course that did not work. This really pisses me off. Maybe it's the AC97 onboard soundchip ? That thing seems to make a lot of problems, also with other games. On the other hand, that may be just because so much ppl are using it, since it's the standard onboard soundchip on nearly every mainboard. And it looks like you've got something else, so that can't be it.
arkham
I swear, I have actually spent the best of a friday night f*cking around with this piece of crap, i've tried everything. I don't know if I want to play the damn thing anymore. I can almost see a money back issue happening here. All I want to do is play it, man i would even LOVE to have the sound and save game issues you are all having, if I could only just play the f*cking thing. /anger

theborgs
I was having crash after the 2 logos. I simply uninstalled my codec pack (k0lite mega codec pack) and it worked fine. so try to remove any codec and windvd, powerdvd, etc from your system. jlockhart89
yes thats what many ppl have suggested to do remove codecs? im unsure what those are im not great with comps, what kind of things what codecs be?
Neu_Lyf
if you have anything like ace mega pack or klite codec pack uninstall them also if you have any shell modifiers (windows blinds, style xp,destktopx ) uninstall them. to be more clear if you have media player classic your chances ar that you've installed some codecs (they are small codes which allow videos or audio to play) and its time for some uninstallin. ultraflip
I somehow managed to get it working now. All I did was updating the chipset drivers, but I think that wasn't the trick. I simply waited for the Rockstar Logos to appear this time, and after that the screen just turns black and nothing happens. When I press space at that time it skips to the loading screen and everything works fine. I can't remember if I did the same thing before ( just wait for the logos I mean ), so I'm not sure wether the drivers solved the problem, or just that little patience not to skip the logos. Anyway, I guess I just had luck. But the thing with the codecs makes sense, I still cant watch the opening video and I also got a sh*tload of codecs installed. Also I can't use my Mediaplayer for a few weeks now, it crashes when I open anything. I'm pretty sure that's the problem, SA just can't playback the Intro because the codecs are confusing it somehow. I'm gonna try to de-install them now, I'll tell you people if it works. btw, jlockhart89 : A Codec is basically just a small "Information" for your media players how to play specific kinds of video or audio Formats. For example, you need a codec to play MP3's, since a MP3 is compressed in some way. Of course codecs for MP3's and other common formats are already included in your Media Player, but some people are using special formats like DiVx or Ogg Vorbis, and to play such files you need to download a coded pack that "explains" to your systen how it has to play those files. That's all. Btw, the Media Player downloads codecs automatically, edit: Uninstalled all 3rd party codecs now. Good news : The game crashes nomore, even when I skip the logos Good news : My Mediaplayer isn't crashing nomore Bad news : I still can't watch the intro, but I know it from my ps2 anyway so who cares. Dontknowaname
Download the programme 3DAnalyze(click here to download). start that programme and select your gta_sa.exe file. Enable the option "emulate bump map caps" and then press on the run button. Now the game should not crash anymore to desktop
arkham
Hi Guys Sorry to bump an (old?) thread but I think it's important. After trying everything, I finally took the advice above and deleted my divx player, the codecs it used and also a programme called sonic sound studio (which came free with the comp) After deleting these programmes using the (remove or uninstall programmes) application, I restarted and all was fine. I hope this help anyone that was having the same frustrating problem Thanks to all that helped, and happy gaming
PaleHorse
Download the programme 3DAnalyze(click here to download). start that programme and select your gta_sa.exe file. Enable the option "emulate bump map caps" and then press on the run button. Now the game should not crash anymore to desktop HOLY F*ck dude you Rock! I ran that emulater and it started right up and played with no problems at all. No sound issues, no graphics issues or anything. Previously I couldnt get the game to load period. It would start to load and right before I got the first splash screen it would crash back to my desktop. I was not about to uninstall all of my codecs.
