martynjackson
I have this problem with my PC... Specs: Radeon 256mb graphics 512 ram Athlon 2.3 ghz 160 gb h/d - 60gb left on it Basically I start XP and i get the startup sound and it's all choppy. - Everything will load. The thing is this when I start up a program say photoshop it takes ages, and if im playing an mp3 via winamp or whatever it sounds all choppy. When I play a game it is choppy and glitchy. When i have a few programs all running at the same time the cpu is 100% up and down. Sometimes I have to wait 5 minutes just to do something relativiley simple in photoshop. The thing is it never used to and a comp at that spec shouldn't be doing that. Even running GTA andreas at the LOWEST settings it is still choppy and crappy. I CAN play it, but it's mad choppy and sound is choppy. I've: Run a virus check Run spyware checks Run registry optimizers Cleaned the hard drive of temp files etc Updated my ati card I'm at a total loss, it's like this system gets bogged down in cpu usage so easily it's not even funny. I have no clue what the hells going on, can anyone please help?

Forty
What processes are using all your resources? Run task manager and tell us the ones that are eating up space.

Luke2004
Nice triple post! Anyway, run hijack this and post the log. Usually helps most.
Wolf68k
Exactly what did you use to check for spyware? Too many times I've seen people say they checked for spyware and only used 1 program. If it is atleast Ad-Aware and Spybot, then ok. Posting your HijackThis log like Luke suggested is also a good idea.

Okay I tried that but OBVIOUSLY it's going to be running fine now, duh. what's your point dick? Well obviously you've proved to us that it is a background program running sucking up all the resources, and not a fault in windows or hardware related. Now is where you can refer back 40's post, which was there 3 times, and check whats taking up all of the processor on boot up. Alternatively, use msconfig to selectively turn startup items on and off to see which will make it run faster.
Wolf68k
And I guess that whole HijackThis idea was stupid too huh? Look guy, you don't know how to solve your problem, right? And we can't come to your house and do it for you, right? Now if you just shut up long enough and not question our suggests as to how to help US analys your problem and tell us the results we can there for better narrow down where to tell you where else to look. Even when I have problems with my system, I perform some pretty goofy ideas of hwo to help me narrow down the problem and yet as goofy as they seem to be they do narrow it down for me. Starting in Safe Mode is something I would do myself if I was to come to you house to solve the problem first hand. It narrows down the number possible problems. If the problem was still there even inf Safe Mode then it that tells me it could be a HDD problem, OS problem, or even a memory resistant virus problem...and I'm sure there are a few others. Since it's not still doing it in Safe Mode, then it tells me that it's most likely a third-party software issue. Now you said you did a spyware check, what all did that include?
