I need advice what should I do next:

My game runs in between 10 - 20 minutes and the suddenly crashes showing the memory dump screen and it specifies the error as driver_thql_less_or not equal.

I've been advised to install Realtek audio drivers, will that help? Anyone had similar problem?

Dragster,

Are you sure you copied the error text correctly? Maybe I'm wrong, but shouldn't it read as below?

driver_IRQL_less_or not equal

People experiencing the error above seem to have success by turning off antialiasing in the game menu.

Yeah, that's the damn error biggrin.gif

Anti-aliasing is turned off though, I'm downloading Realtek Drivers, according to my friend, that solved his problem. I'll post here if it helps.

Ive been searching through the MSDN Database trying to find some answers to my crash problems and i hope this may help others in my situation.

Here are some links to the MSDN Articles for the following BSOD Errors:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dd....asp?frame=true

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dd....asp?frame=true

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dd....asp?frame=true

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dd....asp?frame=true

If your particular error isnt above go to

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....fd0ddbf.xml.asp

and find your error in the window on the left, the errors are listed in numerical order of the stop code.

EG - PFN_LIST_CORRUPT has a stop code of 0x0000004E which is simply listed as 0x4E

**You should also write down the parameter codes to make it even easyer to find out exactly is causing the error the parameter codes are inside the brackets after the stop code.

I hope that this may give you some insight into what exactly is causing your errors.

Damn. My game started crashing a bit too. I am not encouraging using wearz or noCDs but I have to talk about them for the sake of this post. My system specs:

2.0GHz Celeron Processor

128MB GeForce MX 440 graphics card (overclocked so that the core clock speed is from 249mhz to 340mhz and memory clock is from 400mhz to 450mhz)

512 MB Ram

I know it's not overheating because I run The Sims 2, a much more graphicly intense game with no problems.

Also hundreads of people who don't overclock and have better system specs than me report this problem.

Ok, I heard that noCD patches make the game run better. So I tried one, and after I started using it, the game would crash randomly. I switched back to the regular exe and the game still crashes. Again, I get it where the game hangs but the audio keeps going. Also, what was really strange was it was a lockup, and not a crash. To restart the game, I had to Alt-Tab to the desktop, open up task manager to find gtasa.exe "Not Responding." I ended the task but during these crashes I never got the usual Unhandled Expection/This Program has encountred a problem and needs to close blah blah blah.

So, what do we do to prevent crashes? Well, when I got the noCD, I noticed there was something on the same website for the nocd exe, a "crash fix patch." I will not be releasing the website that this patch is on for the sake of me not being banned from GTA Forums, but I will provide the patch. Backup your gtasa.exe. Try to run this patch on whichever exe you use and post here if it stops crashing. I have no idea if this helps but if it works for me, I'll tell you. Mods and Admins, please don't ban or suspend me for this post. I am not trying to provide people with illegal things, I'm trying to fix peoples problems with a faulty exe.

(If anyone can better host this file, feel free)

Well, I just registered so I can post. I just bought SA for PC, and I don't know what will happen...

But it might be interesting to all of you that this kind of shoddy programming isn't new, as I had problems with GTA:VC that could only be fixed by activating Win 98 compatibility mode. I wasn't crashing, but when I ran VC, I had missing textures and stuttering galore. I eventually stumbled upon the compatibility mode fix by accident. The game then ran perfectly, with only an occasional hard freeze (but not entering buildings or cars).

So, it might be something to think about. I had VC patched up to the most recent version (1.1), but I still had to run in Win 98 compatibility. If Rockstar didn't fix it then, why would we assume they will this time? And with the Hot Coffee controversy, I'm not holding my breath.

And yes, the LSHIFT key was dead, but nothing that a simple remap (to L) couldn't fix.

Oh, and I am running an Athlon 64 3200+ with a SoundBlaster Live! card, so that fact may be related to what everyone is experiencing here.

Actually, now that they are working on the patch to disable Hot Coffee, perhaps that will be rolled into a bug fix patch, so we will be *forced* to install it! I mean, either be able to play the game, or be able to screw chunky polygon women? confused.gif

There are a number of no-cd patches on gamecopyworld (google it, not sure if I'm allowed to post link) It is a legal site and no-cd patches are in no way illegal, since they just let you play the game without the cd after you install off the cd. These patches should help you a lot of you're experiencing crashes.

I always get this error too. Goes right to the blue screen of death, with the error, BAD_POOL_HEADER.

**Important**

I found that if you save your after every mission it tends not to freeze. YOU MUST SAVE AFTER EVERY MISSION

I have this same farkin problem. My son has had this for half a year now on an Epox 8K7A mboard wit a geforce3 ti 200 graphics and ac97 onboard and a GIG of ddr ram (crucial). Athlon XP2000 processor and WinXP pro sp1. It worked fine no crashes until one of his friends visited a couple of porn sites on it, I wiped the partition out and repartitioned, formatted and did a clean install.

I updated ALL drivers to latest versions except the ac97's which I left at xp's bog standard. Apart from the AVG antivirus which didn't affect it before there was nothin else running. It now steadily continues to lock up.

I got the latest hyperion drivers

directx 9c

tried ALL compatibility modes

tried altering graphics details in the game (from low to v.high)

gone into the bios on mboard and altered it to "performance"

tried turning off the radio/sounds

ordered a Radeon 9550 to replace the Geforce 3Ti 200

Got my shotgun out and pointed it at the GTA disk

And it STILL frekkin locks up......

Going to try the suggestion wit the AC97 drivers to see if that is it. Logic dictates that where ours locks up (i.e. when entering a car) it must have sommat to do with a program changeover at this point in the game, and the common denominator here is a SOUND change. The radio station changes. As this action makes a direct call on the sound driver it could well be that a different sound driver will cure this friggin bug.

By the way, this is the ONLY program as yet installed on my son's machine apart from AVG antivirus, and it don't even matter if you turn the antivirus off during gameplay.

To my mind it is sheer ignorance to release a game like this with the bug in it at all. Just take a look at the number of people who have the exact same problem with this piece of sh*t. It can't all be down to hardware or software problems. I have never experienced a game (paid for, funnily enough) which exhibits so many problems. Perhaps Rockstar programmers should consider asking for jobs at Microsoft..........

Just updated the AC97 sound drivers (via) and.......... wait for it............

COMPLETE LOCK UP after ten minutes AS USUAL

This game is a badly written piece of sh*t. About as buggy as win 98 first edition.

I have spent too much time and too much money on this, I shall be re-working the disk to make an ashtray. Rockstar games should be ashamed to produce this piece of crap.

This just about sums it up for me

user posted image

After seeing just how many users are having the SAME problem with this game wouldn't you think ROCKSTAR games would do something about it? They must read this forum (and others) and I know that all the other gta sa forums out there have posts similar to this one with just about as many disgruntled customers. When you spend 36 nicker on a dvd you expect it TO WORK. You shouldn't have to feck about looking for possible fixes. I PAID for this game, I didn't get a cracked copy. I expect it to PLAY.

Come on Rockstar. You expect everybody to rush out and buy your latest releases? NOT AFTER THIS FIASCO.

HEY! wanna know the latest? I just changed the motherboard for an abit kg7 raid........ IT STILL LOCKS UP. so it isn't the hardware, its just a buggy piece of sh*te programming.

Hm, this is my problem now :

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (upgraded from Windows XP Home Edition SP1)

ABIT FX5200 Siluro (is this the same as NVidia GForce FX5200?)

AMD Athlon XP 1.83GHZ

512MB RAM

Previously when I was on Windows XP SP1, everything was fine. I updated the ABIT FX5200 card graphic driver, as well as the NForce Audio Driver (at the time it was v4.58). Heck, I even finished the whole game once (never got to 100%, but finished all the storyline missions). There were times where the game just booted me back to desktop, but I could live with it.

Then my friend updated my computer to Windows XP SP2. So I had to install the NVidia unified driver pack (latest one was 5.10), and reinstall the updated ABIT graphic driver I backed up.

Now I have problems. Whenever I do the mission "Sweet's Girl", (new save file) everytime I get to the Seville Boulevard Families turf, the game crashes with a BSOD saying IRQL_DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, then creates a memory dump before restarting. After restarting it says the System has recovered from a critical error, send or dont send message bla bla bla.

Any way to resolve this? One forumer in a local tech forums says that its related to my audio system after analyzing my minidump files. I have also reformatted my com once and reinstalled all the drivers that came with com, still same errors.

I have had the same problem. The game crashes randomly whenever i enter a vehicle or building. The whole computer locks up and I have to shut it down and restart. It's very annoying and i've only been able to do a couple of missions cuz of this problem. It's driving me nuts! Another anoying problem, yet not as serious, is that the sound goes away when it rains. Its not all the sound tho, just things like engine noise, screeching tires, gun shots, foot steps, and collision noises. Other sounds like the radio and ambient noise is still there. By the way, I also have an AMD.

I'm gonna quote Hitman cuz I've got the EXACT same problem and the same processor too. yawn.gif

Kinda dont feel like bumping this as my first post...

Im running an Intel system with an ATI card and I get random hard lock-ups, driving, walking, wherever. VPU recover saves me occasionally, sometimes it crashes to a black screen with only a mouse pointer and I cant even do a alt-tab/win key/cntl-alt-delete.

Specs:

Intel [email protected]/1ghzFSB(big Zalman HSF)

MSI 865 Neo2-S

512mb Geil PC4200

WD 80gb HD

Sapphire 9800pro 128mb

Onboard AC97 sound

4 case fans

XP professional w/SP2

I have the latest drivers for everything(video drivers are Omega, but I tried genuine ATI drivers as well). The only thing I havnt tried is using genuine AC97 drivers. Im about to do that though.

EDIT: I just updated to the Realtek drivers and it seemed fine for about an hour, then I got a VPU recover screen, but it didnt freeze. The video froze in game, but the sound of the radio kept going, so it has to be a problem with ATI's drivers(unlikely) or Rockstars lazy crap programming jobs.

It was all about OVERCLOCKING

it had nothing to do with sound drivers or sh*t

just went to BIOS settings and changed AGP output from 4x to 2x

now it works fine and doesnt freeze anymore

From what i see...i should try that bios tweak, beacause i tryed almost everything...and it still freeze with the windows report error...after a hour or so...not in missions, only cruisin' on foot, car or plane, or boat! it seems a programed clock...1 hour it freezes! anyway

intel 2.8

XP pro sp2

1gb ram

128 mbs Nvidia FX 5200

80bgs HD

Creative Sound Blaster 5.1

--------------------------------

agp fast write enabled <---- i´ll try to disable it

btw, i have no sound bugs...mainly because it doesn't rain in my game, i just, disabled it tounge.gif

my theory is that, there may be a problem with a car, i explain: the cars are spawned accordingly a list, and there is the possibility that after an hour a problematic car apears...i don't know, my game is all tweaked, can be someting else...

This will sound silly. How do I change BIOS?

When you turn your PC on, before it booting press F2, it will get you to the BIOS screen where under "advanced" and "video"(i think) you can change those settings.

Anyway, the same problem was for me. I downloaded the Realtek AC'97 driver. SA was working perfectly without crashes, but there was no sound. Not in-game, not Windows. Then I installed a VIA audio driver. Then I couldn't load in Windows, had to reinstall it. So right now, I'm trying turning off the audio acceleration to standard and maybe finding a proper driver if that doesn't go well. I have C-media audiocard btw. Hope i can play it.

Does anyone have this problem or a solution (patch of some sort) to this?

One thing ive noticed from these posts is that every1 who has posted specs has an amd processor. for one thing Id hate for this to be the thing that is causing it as thats what ive got and my game comes in a couple of days; i wanna be able to play it. secondly im hoping its not the case as it would seem really f*cked up somewhere if R* didnt find this flaw when the port was being made or during testing. and thirdly, if it is becaus eof amd chips then god knows how long it will be before a solution is given by R* be it in the form of a patch or something we should change setting on.

of course this could all be proved wrong if some1 is having these crashing errors with an Intel chip like a pentium 4????? anyone got one???

I hav pentium 4 and mi game crashes aswell ..

wen i walk into CJs house it reboots the computer and in some of the mission videos it reboots aswell
