aggrazel
I've sent this off to Rockstar for support but I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issue that I'm having. Problem: Randomly the game will crash when entering a vehicle or a store. I haven't gotten very far in the game due to this. It locks up the entire PC where the system has to be hard booted (power off 5 secs etc.) to get back up. For instance, I entered the barbershop fine once, but the next time it crashes. I enter the pizza parlor and it crashes. I enter a vehicle and it crashes. At first I thought maybe one of my radio stations was corrupted or something, but I reinstalled the game to the same effect. I even tried turning off the radio and it still crashes me. I'm using the latest drivers for all my components. System: AMD 1700+ Gefore ti4200 with 128 megs ram Sound Blaster Live! Value 512 MB Ram. Anyone having similar issues?
tiedie
i got 2 or 3 illegal operations while walking around in random places....donno what was goin on the game would do an illegal operation on the 2nd mission you do for 'lok' or whatever his name is, i uninstalled/reinstalled the game and did the mission...no illegal operation it was prob the trainer i was using, i ditched it because it sucked
aggrazel
I'm not using any trainers or anything other than the straight vanilla complete installation.
Konoko45
Yeah, it seems it's rather prone to crashing... what I've gotten so far is: - Computer reset itself when trying to enter Cluckin' Bell once - Game just crashed for no reason when trying to drive back to the save point - Numerous VPU recover errors, mainly because my desktop res (1280) does not match my game res (1024), and as with Vice City, it has a problem with Alt-Tabbing out when your game and desktop resolutions are the same. Colej_uk
Ouch, that sounds like a nasty problem. I haven't got the game yet, but heres a few general things you could try; -Check your registry for errors using a registry cleaning program -Scan for viruses -Scan for spyware & adware -Make sure hardware isn't overheating- you can usually check the bios for cpu + system temperature -try running the game in compatibility mode (if your on win xp/2000) -Latest drivers, directX, etc. -changing graphics options in the in-game menu
Fingon
Got about the same problem. The game just crashes randomly it seems, and the computer just restarts. i have tried with different settings in game and installed the news ati drivers for my ATI radeon 9800 pro. got a amd64 2800+ cpu in a shuttle. Bigwig
Not only do I get random restarts when I'm just walking around doing stuff, but the game will restart THE SECOND it begins to rain, guaranteed. This makes me believe that it's probably not overheating (especially since I just dusted my computer and leave the sides open). It doesn't matter what I put it at, this happens at highest and lowest settings equally. 9700 pro 512 Ram 2.2 ghz AMD MSI K7N2 mainboard
Pilez
Mm.. i'm having crashes too: - It occurs tottaly random. Sound jams and repeats for half a second and after that a spontanious reboot. Windows recognizes there has been a crash and generates an error report in my case, but it doesn't make any sence to me.. System spec: - Radeon x800 Pro - xp3200+ - Shutlle SN45GV3 Shuttle Barebone (Nforce-2 ultra chipset) - 1024 MB DDRSD - Windows XP Professional SP2 I think we gotto wait for Rockstar's patch or mayb Ati can help some of us out.. Well... I wouldn't be sure it's ATI's fault since the first poster seems to have a GeForce. Anyways, I don't have my copy yet but I was playing it at my friend all the day and we didn't have a single crash. My friends pc specs are something like this: Athlon XP 2600+ 512 RAM Radeon 9200 pro/se/xt - Dunno for sure
Pilez
Mmm.. I seem to have found a solution for my problem. I made some changes in my computers Bios Setup This is what I did: - Turned off AGP fast write - Turned down 8x AGP to 4x (what i also changed is graphics aperture size, but i don't know if that had anything to do with it) All games should run with Agp Fast write an 8x AGP, but at the moment i really want to play the game, so just lower settings a bit and wait for a patch.. Fingon
tried these things as Pilez suggested: - Turned off AGP fast write - Turned down 8x AGP to 4x playd for a little while, but it ended in a crash and restart as always
salibaba
One thing ive noticed from these posts is that every1 who has posted specs has an amd processor. for one thing Id hate for this to be the thing that is causing it as thats what ive got and my game comes in a couple of days; i wanna be able to play it. secondly im hoping its not the case as it would seem really f*cked up somewhere if R* didnt find this flaw when the port was being made or during testing. and thirdly, if it is becaus eof amd chips then god knows how long it will be before a solution is given by R* be it in the form of a patch or something we should change setting on. of course this could all be proved wrong if some1 is having these crashing errors with an Intel chip like a pentium 4????? anyone got one??? mapper
It seems that everyone here has a AMD, does this happen to Intel to cuz I don't have the game yet and I'd like to know what to expect
absolut taco
I've got an Intel, and it happened to me once, the first time I walked into the gym. It just dropped me out to windows with some error message, and the game restarted just fine. Now, if they can fix the #[email protected]%ing sound bug... I deleted those and tried the drivers from realtek, havn't had a single crash since then and I hope i don't get anymore.

~The`Hitman~
I have had the same problem. The game crashes randomly whenever i enter a vehicle or building. The whole computer locks up and I have to shut it down and restart. It's very annoying and i've only been able to do a couple of missions cuz of this problem. It's driving me nuts! Another anoying problem, yet not as serious, is that the sound goes away when it rains. Its not all the sound tho, just things like engine noise, screeching tires, gun shots, foot steps, and collision noises. Other sounds like the radio and ambient noise is still there. By the way, I also have an AMD.
mapper
Great, more and more ppl have theese issues!!!! Hope it'll run on my pc with no probs I wonder when is R* gonna release the first patch to solve the most obvious glitches

aggrazel
I set my sound accelleration from "Full" to "standard" and was able to play for about 30 minutes without crashing before I had to quit because my son came home (no way I'm playing this game with a 6 year old around. ) I had to do that to play FFXI also, which was why I got the idea. ~The`Hitman~
I just updated my sound driver too. It seems to fix the problem. Been running the game for 45 min with no crashes. I hope this fixes it for good.
[DMA]Blunted
I've got an AMD XP 2400 running with a Geforce 6800 and it crashes randomly the sound stutters for about two seconds then it reboots. It has nothing to do with overheating as it happens between 10 seconds into playing up to 10 minutes into playing it also happens on the lowest settings or the highest settings. It seems the bug I'm describing is only happening to AMD users. R* should have this resolved soon, just keep reporting your crashes here. Please make a note if it is the same crash I am talking about. So they can focus on this nasty reboot bug.
tmzpro
i have the similar problem ,the game crashes randomly even i'm walk in the street. i update my motherboard and graphic card's driver ,it's useless. then i follow other gtaer's advice "use win2000 mode for the gta_sa.exe".
