I think that would be the combination of 256mb RAM (very low, I'd get that upgrade to at least 516mb) and a below par prosessor speed. Though the GF4 would contribute to the problem.

But it's positive step that the game actualy runs, and doesn't crash or close down.

Yeah, thats what I thought. If San Andreas did need pixel shading support, it would've said so in the system requirements.

So, I'm guessing San Andreas WILL run (hopefully.) The requirements say nothing about pixel shading support.

And to the guy who said this is the "BEST" news he ever heard, that wasn't funny man, that was just being an ass.

well the GTA games have been known to not really rely on CPU power too much which is an amazing quality for such a good series, her processor was fine it was just the fact she had a bit under the reccomended ram and her video card isnt even properly supported, i think if she had a decent one which supported the game then it probably would have ran alright.

Really? so it's very good...

EE2 works great on my computer (low settings of course) with only a radeon 7000 card and memory 256 ram.

I wish GTA:SA will run on my computer, even on low setting, don't care.

Kernel-32-dll

I didn't see a big difference between highest and lowest settings in vc, the only noticeable effects are weather effects, sight range and the solution (i think it is called, 800*640 and so on, you know what i mean ;P).

Ok my mate wants a new card for S:A, what would be the better choice:

Ti4200

or

FX5200?

Any quick responses please?

Ti4200 and only this.

FX5200 = MX440. Just it can run PS.

If you can get Titanium, you are lucky. It's not in production for years...

I have turned graphics all the way down, yes it looks worse but it plays with no lag. It is running on my Geforce4 MX and it is playing the game. On Friday I am going to upgrade to a better card however, I just don't know what to get. Any suggestions?

The good thing is my MX is running it, even though graphics are turned way down, I am still glad it is working, and there is not much of a lag either on my end. It just doesnt look as nice.

I think your Duron is taking the speed little bit dwn, because I remember the readme file in GTA VC, it saied that the recommendations were like this (don't remember exactly) : AMD Athlon and P4 800 GHZ, AMD Duron (and some others) 1200GHZ. blink.gif

EDIT:Vice City in readme : Minimum Hardware Requirements

800 MHz Intel Pentium III or 800 MHz AMD Athlon

or 1.2GHz Intel Celeron or 1.2 GHz AMD Duron processor

What the hell?

A Ti4200 over a FX 5200? What are you smoking? You need to pass some of that...

Ive seen PCs with Ti4200 and mine FX 5200 and the 5200 kills it in speed and preformence. I would recommend a 5600 at least as a 5200 is a budget card made just for people who want at least DX9 support while paying low price.

Great, you relieved stress out of me. Do you mind posting a screen on how different it looks? (is it that different?)

Dx8-wise, the ti4200 is faster than the 5200. the only thing is the 5200 has dx9 support. But the FX series cards are poor in performance so it wouldn't be able to handle dx9 too well anyways especially for its budget line.

The lower class FX's yes, but once you get to the 5700's and 5900's range they are fairly good cards just not as good as the ATI alternatives. If anyone is thinking of a new card I wouldn't go lower then say a 9600 Pro as under that you'd be wasting your money.

Thats great news man, really great news!! But I have 2 questions for you:

1. What is your RAM etc.

2. Do you think it'll work on GeForce 2 MX too?

i have a geforce 2 mx 400 and it works fine at 800 x 600 x 32 with half draw distance and details on 'high' with mip map and AA off. not the best (some textures look like doom original, i.e you can see individual pixels as if they are a bmp file and not being rendered) but it plays without lagging and still looks fairly good! if i got the screenshot thing to work, i'll post screens later.

thanks very much man colgate.gifcolgate.gifcolgate.gifrah.gif

The current computer im posting this from isnt mine, its my works computer, it has a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 420

if i had SA and if i could install it, i could test and see if there are any problems, but i cant

my computer at home has a 16MB ATI Rage 128MB ultra video card, had some werid issuse playing Vice, but it could display and i could hear it fine

but my computer has like zero disk spavce left, no DVD-ROM drive, and only 256MB of RAM, so SA is a no go for me unless i get a new computer, and i dont know if my video card is even supported

I have a crappy GeForce4 MX and here is how I tweaked the settings...

I put it on the lowest resolution and 16 bit color... and everything else on highest settings. During the daytime it looks and plays GREAT. The only problem is that during the night it looks kind of funky, but I can live with that since it plays with absolutely no slowdown.

Anyway, that's my two cents on how one should tweak their settings if they have a crappy graphics card. It worked for me!

Mind me asking, do the cars have reflections on them?

I have a old GF2MX 400. My card supports a only DX7 cry.gif And i wonder if the game will be working on my comp [AMD 2400+, 256 DDR 533 MHz and f*cking GF2MX]. Could someone help me and answer to my question? I know that i must buy new graphic card and i'll do this on holiday. I've read previous posts and a few users have written that SA is working on series MX...
