[HARDWARE] Graphic Card, Shut Down/Reboot

Recommended Posts

Okay, one of my friends just got a new graphic card so he could play newer games, that needs pixel shader 2.0

However, it has been having more problems than good.

At first they installed, it's driver complained their was a failure in the amount of power supply for the card.

They ( him and his father ) replaced the wires within the case, so the graphic card had a wire alone, while the other units were sharing. ( one wire from PSU to GFX )

It then stopped complained, however, when he runs a graphical taking applications ( such as games ), it can go for some time, though with much lag, and after some playing it crashes and the computer goes black and either reboots or shuts down completely.

I just bought a new PSU with higher W, and he asked me to check if it was the power, so I plugged in the PSU I bought, checked and nope. As I personally expected, but I thought it was worth a shot.

I have suggested him to get it repaired, but he don't want to pay what he has to pay.

Okay, for his specs;

Around 1.5 GB DDR RAM.

I would guess around 3.0 GHz CPU.

I know it's shameless, but I in fact know very little of his machine.

I do know that the graphic card needs it own wire cause it has a fan.

It still sounds like a power issue, you normally need a 400W+ power supply or at the least a 350W for any card that requires more power.

If it matters, I figured out what GFX card it was;

nVidia Geforce Winfast A6600 TD

A 6600 shouldnt need its own power lead.

How was the driver complaing? Like, in setup, randomly, in the control panel?

Well... there was a plug for it's own wire in the card.

And the error, as I have heard it, popped up randomly.
