However, it appears that in the first pic, the bike's shadow is cast, but where's the shadows of CJ and Smoke? Not exactly the best real-time shadow adaptation, but still an evolution from the same blocky-ass shadows we've been seeing the past 3 or so years.

 

I always felt GTA needed real-time shadows over reflections... although, the reflections would've been nice to have, too...

 

They said they're using the original textures... why not use the original models, too? Cause I'm still seeing some heavy poly-blockage on car wheels. In fact, nothing seems to be improved model-wise. I want to know if it's just me who's thinking this...

They are pictures of the video, not the actual game, thats why you see all the blur. Jeez, I thought people would figure this out already...

no, as evidenced by this topic, people are very very stupid, and quick to jump to conclusions based on a minimal amount of info.

 

No ingame screenshots would look so blurry

Yes, when they jump down the bridge there's just a bike shadow. But while they are under the bridge there's no shadow, and a few second later you can see the shadow of CJ and also the gun he's holding: http://mitglied.lycos.de/b4571/shadows.jpg

but I have found something in the video that will be cery disturbing for most people awaiting SA. The slow textures problem is back, if you watch the video that basti posted and fast-forward to 35seconds, you will notice that behind the guys that CJ is shooting at, the building textures and some of textures around the front of the building loading in. Also if you fast forward to 2:20 you will notice a stadium or something poping in above the wall.

 

Not something I hoped for but seeing thats all I saw im not too annoyed, better than in VC and gta3, sometimes the roads and stuff were loading as you were ontop of them not just when approaching them. Plus this poping in is still happening with an X800 for christ sake!!

 

**EDIT and btw thanks alot LSD and basti for the vids and screens you have posted beats sitting around desperate to play the game for the next 6 days, at least we have new material to scour through and nitpick at lol

The computer that was played on might not be as good. it might not have its drivers updated. It might not be playing on full quality

That rapidshare.de site is the most restrictive POS I have run across in a while. No matter what browser I'm using it tells me I've requested over my limit at 4mb and 9mb and to wait one hour.

 

I understand bandwidth isn't free, but there has to be a better alternative.

Rest assured that nothing will be changed from this version and the final version. That's just not how software development works with this kind of project. At this point, the only thing they'd change would be a bug that ended up making the user's monitor explode or something like that.

 

And, yes, these images are blurry. However, you also shouldn't expect most shots to look as good as the ones Rockstar posted. Chances are good that they did some minor tweaking to those shots, especially if the Xbox ones are any indication (*real* shots from the Xbox version look a lot worse than what you see on the Rockstar site, just like with the PS2 ones).

 

I know Rockstar talks the talk, but when it comes down to it their technical/programming group either isn't as good as their content design group, or they just don't care very much about doing a good port from the PS2 to the Xbox/PC. It's plainly obvious that San Andreas just graphically isn't on the same level as other games being released for the PC nowadays, but they (correctly) assume that it'll make them bundles of money whether they put serious effort into it or not.

 

EDIT: Keep in mind that even if the port is sub-par, chances are very good that on even modest systems it'll be a bunch sharper than the PS2 version, and also will run more smoothly (but I do wish they've gotten rid of the need for a frame limiter...). I think these are the important things.

Like it was said at least 5 times already, those screens are captured shots from a video, resulting in somewhat blurry shots and loss in picture-quality.

This ain't a direct "print-screen" screenshot from the game! Those kind of screenshots were indeed released by R* earlier.

 

Nevertheless, I guess some people still expect too much from the PC version of SA. It's for 98% the same game as on the PS2, don't expect a major overhaul on the graphics except for some sharper textures, stencil shadows instead of blobs and the ability to run it in a high resolution with anti-alias.

I'm very sure we can all make wonderful screenshots in just a week sigh.gif

Ok, I was wrong about the shadows, since I had not watched the video before saying it.

 

Also, what the f*ck, you people nitpick about every damn thing. It's like "ooh, his hands aren't on the handlebars, it's a glitch! R* must fix this now!". What's next, you're gonna complain about how the bicycles can go in circles without CJ doing the pedaling animation?

 

Just shut up. No one cares. And R* won't release a patch to adjust such a minor detail.

the Draw distance in the videos looks like PS2. Rocksar say that Draw distance has been increased in many ways.

The PCPP team was able to see the PC-version in NY and write in their article: 'we stay at the top of the vinewoodsign and can look up to LV'.

Remember, the visibility isn't gonna be that far at all times, you know. See, there's this thing they call weather, right? And it like, limits your visibility sometimes.
