Not familiar with StarForce.

Is it like Steam(Half-Life2)?

If so then it will take 8 hours or so to get an account and type in the damn keycode.

The site was crashing mad on day one of HL2 release. suicidal.gif

no,half life has Steam, and its defences....

starforce is the program that ubisoft used to protect Splinter cell:Chaos theory...

if you didnt know-SC:CT was cracked about one month after its release, and untill now there is none a single good warez version of the game...all of them are completly f*cked up.[thanks to starforce]

I doubt it will be.

I've only seen ONE Starforce game that couldn't be cracked without need for other hardware (usb ROM)

and that's Splinter Cell 3.

Certainly hope it's easy and done fast, I hate exposing retail discs to the world after installation.

I want to open it, install it, and put it back in teh box until my next system fomat.

7 days to go.

god damnit.

Starforce.

Oh f*ck off.

I certainly hope not. Starforce is the only copy-protection method that would put me off buying a game legitimately. I got the Trackmania Sunrise DEMO and had the Starforce drivers installed. Goodbye 50MBs of system memory and 20fps in 3D applications. dozingoff.gif

Thankfully, the only big thing Rockstar have done to annoy me with copy protection is not allowing Manhunt to run when programs like CloneCD is running. That's easily fixed just by upgrading CloneCD.

But I hope for their sake they stick to Securom.

I have no time for software based copy protection, if you are charging $50 for a game, you can afford a dongle that costs $1.70

I hate CD verification, for example, my laptop has an option to install an extra-long life battery in the CD-ROM bay that will get you up to about 4-5 hours of full throttle gaming. Without it, you are lucky to get 2 hours.

Give me a dongle or go f*ck yourselves.

Do I smell a few angry downloaders who dont want Starforce? ph34r.gif

Anyway, I think R* know what they are doing and that their game will, without a doubt, be a very popular game on the internet. They will just be wasting their time and money if they use better protection, becasue it will be cracked.

The only problem I now have is if what Opi is saying is true. Because I have a pritty crap PC and I need this game to run as good as possable without the copy protection making my game lag.

I will still be making my trip to GAME to pick it up anyway. One thing downloaders dont get is the box. I hope San Andreas has box as good as, if not better, than the one that Vice City had.

i dongle would be alot better option in my view,

rockstar should contact steinberg becuase they have got an excellent dongle system that stumped alot of crackers.

and still the only way to get around their dongle is to actually buy a dongle steinberg sell for another product and replace the files!

Dongle? What the hell is that?

Anyway as much as Rockstar deserve to protect their games from warezers, Starforce is just not the way to go. Its not that it takes up system resources its that even people who have bought the game sometimes have trouble running the game. Hopefully they will stick to Securerom once again.

That's the thing. The people who download it are going to get it without Starforce.

The only people who are going to be inconvienced by Starforce are the people who actually buy it. ALL cracking groups completely remove the Starforce protection for their releases. Why spend $100 on a game that will completely f*ck over your computer with malware disguised as copy protection when you could download it with no risk to your performance at all?

[EDIT]A dongle is a little thing you plug into your computer. Very easily to crack. All you need is a dummy driver and it'll think it's plugged in when it's not.

I've heard of the term Dongle but not in relation to copy protection systems.

That's the thing. The people who download it are going to get it without Starforce.

Actually the people who download it are going to get it WITH Starforce. But since they don't have the correct cd-key they have to disable all of their drives, use some third party Starforce supressor tools, crack some files that Starforce has made system files, and finally crack some of the actual game files; all to get passed the copy protection And they will most likely have to do this each time they want to run the game....If they are lucky.

On paper, it looks good. An almost uncrackable protection system that would force warezers to buy the game. But even if you do buy the game you are more than likely to run into problems. Starforce has been known to be incompatible with many CD/DVD drives, it hogs up resources, it can add a few degrees to your CPU temperature, and it'll come back after you uninstall it. If you do try to uninstall it, it'll disable the protected game as punishment. Also, if it detects any virtual drive software (Clone CD, Daemon Tools), it may disable the game and/or even your cd drives.

If the PC version is shipped with Starforce, I will cry. cryani.gif

Dongle? What the hell is that?

a dongle is sumthing u have to physically plug into your computer (used to be on the parallel port)

but now they use USB dongles aka a USB memory stick with files on that allow you to play the game.

I canceled my pre-order,

I am not buying anything with Starforce on it. Hopefully this turns out to be groundless speculation.

Starforce won't be used. It would put a whole lot of people off buying the game and starforce can be cracked anyway. Splinter cell 3 has been cracked

The Warlock

Why do companies insist on putting this CD protection on anyway? If the game is copying upwards of two gigs to my hard drive, there's nothing on the CD that is needed by the game; it's all on the disk. The CD is just there so Take-Two (and almost every other game publisher out there) can be asshole control freaks. After all, there's a crack within a couple weeks (at most) for any and every game, and having the CD in the drive does nothing but drain my laptop battery for no reason at all. I crack every game I buy for this very reason. If Starforce is used on GTASA, I'll wait for the probably 10 days that it'll take to crack and download it out of sheer spite.

And by the way, tombcatz, I'm just wondering why you care what kind of protection it uses. I mean, you're buying the game, and I'm assuming you're not even going to get a NOCD for it. Is what other people do really any of your business?
