I hope I to Rahman-Barrett. It's at the United Center, but it costs a lot of money, so my dad and I will probably try to buy outside the stadium. I'll let you all know what it is like if I am able to go though smile.gif

The Heavyweights weighed in today for Saturdays fight card. Rahman weighed in at 236 (good for him) and Barrett at 224 (decent for Barrett considering he is always under 220) I think Oliver McCall weighed in at 235 which is great for the guy because hes 40 years old. I hope he does well against Saleta even though Saleta sucks tounge.gif

It's really a toss up, one thing that comes to mind is that Owen Beck made a nasty cut on Barrett and Beck isn't as strong as Rahman so that could be a problem for Barrett. I thought Rahman was going to overlook Barrett and come in bad shape but I was wrong so like I said, it's basiclly a 'head or tails' fight.

Well my dad found a good deal on tickets, so I'm going to the United Center tommorow colgate.gif . I'll report back to you guys on how it was...

Just got back from boxing. It was pretty good overall, even though Rahman-Barrett wasn't great. Also, it was pretty cool because I got to meet Lamon Brewster biggrin.gif Anyways, if you guys want , I can give summaries of all the bouts I saw tommorow. If not, I won't waste your time.

There was one funny (although kind of annoying) thing though. During Mayorga's fight, Zab Judah (sitting directly in front of me, a couple rows though) was always standing up and shadow boxing whenever Mayorga would throw a punch. It was like he was trying to telecommunicate what punches to throw to Mayorga. It was annoying because he sorta blocked people's view, but it was funny biggrin.gif

Also, quote of the night (I should put this in Sports Weekly also): "I thought you was 'Two Gunz' man? What are they, BB guns? Supersoakers?" -- a guy behind me

Lmao, that actually made me laugh. I'm glad I didn't waste my money on this PPV, Barrett really only had 1 good round and that was the final round. I heard that Collozao did very good in his fight, forgot who he fought though. McCall beat Saleta via KO 4 and Mayorga won UD against Piccilo..an easy UD might I add.

-McCall wasn't bad, but it took him a while to get warmed up. He was very slow the first two rounds and finally started swinging in round 3. He got some good punches in, but the guy he was fighting was a bum. He looked like he had no intention of winning the fight.

-The Collazo fight was crazy. He fought Miguel Angel Gonzalzez, and Gonzalez has the hardest head I've ever seen. Collazo connected with so many straight-on power punches through the fight, but he never even staggered Gonzalez. I mean, even if Collazo has less than average punching power, a normal boxer would at least be staggered after absorbing all those blows. But Gonzalez didn't even look hurt by them. He was just letting Collazo hit him and occasionally fighting back. Crazy.

-Mayorga was extremely aggressive against Piccirilo. Piccirilo ran away a bit, but he stood in and rattled Mayorga a couple times. I would've loved to see Mayorga get knocked out after all the taunting he did, but it never happened. God, Mayorga is a scray dude though. I would piss my pants if I came across him in an alley...

-I'm guessing you guys already know about the main event. Not too much action sad.gif There were a couple decent power shots, but not too much. The 12th round was good though.

Hahaha, I feel the exact same way. I don't think Rahman was horrible, it's just that Barrett made it easy for him so he didn't have to do a lot of work. He's still not on par with Klitschko IMHO though. I hope I'm wrong though biggrin.gif

D Jones

A couple of years ago, I adored one boxer, and that was "Sugar" Shan Mosley. For his freakish speed.

What ever happened to him?

Also, what happened to Fernado Vargas? I liked him up until he started to loose a lot.

i kno toney isnt under King...but the heavyweight title holders are all Don King fighters but Vitali (remember, Toney ; Ruiz was flipped to a No Contest because of Toney's lil steroid problem) ... also its a rediculous mismatch....skill can only take u so far... Toney would kill himself if he went in there with Vitali... hes way too small to b beat on by a guy the size of Vitali... thats like Lennox Lewis and Roy Jones...sure everyone would have loved to see it....but even before everyone knew how bad Jones' chin was at the end of his career.... He would kill himself in there ...

No i dont agree.

Height means nothing,Vitali aint a superior fighter and skillwise he aint in Toney's league.

Toney will handle Vitali well and if he survives the first 6 rounds he outboxes him.Vitali is overrated and was lucky to have not met an in shape Lewis.

Well Sugar Shane gave Ronald 'Winky' Wright, a chance to fight him for undisputed Light Middleweight championship. I have always respected him for doing that because Winky was one of the most ducked and underrated fighters when Shane took him on. Shane lost by UD and Wright gave him a rematch. Shane did better in the rematch but Wrights defense was and is still solid. It was a Majority Decision for Wright, I think scores were 114-114, 115-113 twice for Wright. Mosley is making his comeback at the moment, he won a fairly easy UD against 18-1 prospect David Estrada and is now scheduled to face 32-0-2 challenger Jose Luiz Cruz on the 17th of September on the Barrera vs whats his name undercard. Always been a fan of Sugar myself.

@Daniel and menane AND cuse- I hate Klitscko as well but he will take Rahman out and even though I like Toney, Toney doesn't have a good chance to defeat Klitscko. Toney has done virtually nothing of signifigance as a heavyweight except beat past his prime Holyfield and Booker. I also believe that his fight with Ruiz wasn't as lopsided as most people though, Toney was helped getting the UD with that 'knockdown' that wasn't even a knockdown in the 9th round I believe. Don't forget that Toney is also getting older and his skills are going to diminish very soon, I think he's 35 or 36.

Edit: @ D Jones- Forgot to tell you about Vargas, he is scheduled to fight Javier Castilljo(sp?) this Saturday I believe in a WBC title eliminator, if Vargas wins he will likely face Ricardo Mayorga..that'd be a very entertaining fight if I do say so for myself.

He fought Estrada? I saw David Estrada fight in Chicago a year ago. He won his match, but he didn't exactly dominate. I don't think he was ready to face Mosley yet...

Also, didn't Shane lose to Vernon Forrest twice? I think I saw his second loss on HBO a while ago...

That was before he beat De La Hoya and won undisputed middleweight championship. But yeah Forrest beat him twice, Forrest lost to Mayorga twice though after that tounge.gif

Hey I got some pics of boxing. My camera was sh*t though, so most of them are bad quality. Oh well, might as well show them to you guys (plus Ice might use them in his SW article if he wrties it)

EDIT: for some reason some of these pics don't work for me. Let me know if you can see them. I'll try to get them to work later if you can't.

Meh. I dont listen much when people give the "Toney hasnt fought anyone at Heavyweight" arguement.

People didnt give him a chance against Ruiz and he made Ruiz looks like crap, on his own worst day! With less than 4 weeks of training to boot.

I know James is 36, but he is argueably the most talented boxer alive. Surely Mayweather and a couple others can argue that but they dont have 20 years of in ring experiance and over 70 fights.

Assuming they fight eventually, if James can get his chubby 36 year old ass a nice long 3-4 month training period before the fight, I think his chances against Klitschko are both that most would think.

We all know Klitschko isnt some marvel of boxing talent, and he's terrified of getting punched just like his brother. No doubt he has the power and size to KO anybody, but if James can last past the first 4-5 rounds, I think he will have it in the bag.

Vitali is gassed after 4 rounds, dead after about 8. If it went to a decision you know that James will have taken the last 3 rounds like he usually does. He conserves lots of energy for a short chubby guy.

It would be a longshot, but there is nobody that I want to take the title from Frankenstein anymore than James.

The guy took steroids, you can give me this crap on how it was supposedly to help his bicep, but his doctor said that he had never given Toney any steroids, before I believed that Toney did get steroids to help his bicep but its his word against the doctors word.. Toney is a good fighter no doubt and he probably would give Klitscko a run for his money, but I believe Klitscko will still end up being the winner. I don't know why Toney took a fight with Guinn, I'm really hoping that this was his best option for his next fight, its a pretty dangerous fight IMO. Yeah I know Guinn had a draw with Friday Ahunaya but if he gets his heart back, hell he might even hurt Toney. This next few months will shapen up the HW division.

Looks like Zab and Mayweather might have a fight for undisputed welterweight championship, I was hoping Mayweather would take out 140 first but meh...

In reality I think James knew that he was taking a banned substance to heal his arm but it was the fact that he had a World Heavyweight Title shot out of nowhere at the last minute and though he had such a short amount of time to train he probably didnt want to take the real time to heal and give up his shot at a belt.

In the end of course its a bonehead move, but I dont think it will change anything for him. Its still obvious that he wasnt taking it to be a cheater and get an edge on Ruiz. He could beat Ruiz on moonshine.

As far as Judah/Mayweather goes. With all the smack talk going on, id be surprised if they could agree on a money split. Since neither is a huge draw, but Mayweather is the bigger draw, and Judah is the champ. That seems like an impossible split.

Who thinks Hopkins will win his rematch? I do

I'm not sure.

I mean, Taylor knows his style now, and will likely be more prepared to fight than he was last time 'round. Plus, Taylor has age on his side, but that proved to be a mute issue in Taylor/Hopkins I.

It's seriously a toss-up in my opinion, but if Hopkins does win it will prove to be one of the greatest come-backs of all time. wow.gif

Not really the greatest comeback of all time, Taylor ain't that good pal tounge.gif I picked Taylor to win the first fight and it was good to be right but watching the first fight, looked like a draw to me. Hopkins should let Taylor throw bad punches in the 2nd fight for the early rounds but Hopkins should get more active earlier and he should be able to win the fight. Hopkins wants to KO him but I think it will probably end up in another controversial close decision.

I think it will be slightly close but Hopkins will pull out the decision. We will get opposites all over again, Hopkins will be yapping and Taylor will be upset. And it will force us with a nice trilogy dilemma..

Though I think Hopkins is gonna fight over the date he told his mother, but who knew that he might scrap all other plans to fight young Taylor three times. wow.gif

If he beats Taylor, I gurantee he won't fight him again..if he does fight again, he will probably move up a weight class and find someone maybe Winky Wright, eh it depends if Hopkins wants one more payday after he beats Taylor.

I dont know why, but I have a feeling that if Hopkins is willing to break his promise to his mother for one fight, that he will probably be willing to go maybe one or two more after that.

Money talks right? Especially to Hopkins..

Well this is a bit off topic, but I felt like posting it anyways. I was watching "Classic Now" I think, and they were talking about how boxing needed to use hiphop to get more inner-city fans. The whole time I'm sayin to myself: How are they gonna get more inner-city fans when they won't be able to pay for all the good fights? I know Ice wrote an article in SW about this, but that show just reminded me. What do you all think?

PPV's are horrible, unless the card is literally outstanding such as Castillo vs Corrales too..I mean that's a great fight for sure but LOOK at the undercard.. Arce vs Hussein 2 as well, that fight might be even better then the main event. I just found out that Kiltscko vs Rahman is a PPV..Bob Arum, who won the purse bid, changed it from regular HBO to PPV..so f*cking gay..I'm sick of promoters and greed, they should shove PPV's up their asses..

Boxing is in quite a lull right now.

Though many could probably give a sh*t, im a huge Hatton fan and im glad to see that he most likely has a fight lined up with Carlos Maussa.

I cant belive people bitch at him for not fighting Mayweather right away.... Its hilarious that people can rag at him for not fighting two of the top 5 p4p boxers in the world back to back. Nobody does that!
