Welcome, seeing how there are some Boxing fans that are here, I thought I might as well make an acutal Boxing Discussion. I'll just start things off with a upcoming fight, the Heavyweight WBO title fight is this Saturday, WBO Champ Lamon Brewster vs Challenger Andrew Golota. This fight is taking place in the United Center in Chicago (which is Andrew Golota's home town) My opinion of this fight is that even though Lamon Brewster has a great chin and a great heart, he will lose to Golota by KO in the 7th round. I personally think that Golota should of beaten Byrd instead of the draw and then should of won that decision against Ruiz, I was literally shocked that the judges scored that for Ruiz.

About time a Boxing discussion thread was here,Burning Ice respect for opening it up.

Ok here are my thoughts on Brewster and Golota,Golota i think will finally win a World Title,In the past he was DQ'd twice against Bowe in which he was ahead on points in both fights,He was destroyed in one round by Lewis,He drew with Chris Byrd and i think he won that and was robbed by the judges against Ruiz.

I just think its Golota's time now.If not he is one unlucky fighter.

Heres a question,Where would you rate Castillo and Corrales in the list of all time fights???

Castillo/Corrales..hmm that was indeed a great fight..All-time though I say probably Top 10 definately. However I think it's probably one of the best comeback fights in one round I have ever seen, Corrales got knocked down twice in the tenth round and just comes out of nowhere and TKO's Castillo. I always enjoy watching Latino vs Latino fights, they have such heart and never give up. It's absolutely great to watch.

Yeah I dont agree much with the 'Greatest fight of all time' for Castillo/Corrales. It was just a great fight in general. One of the best for sure but they arent exactly superstars.

If anyone saw what Floyd Mayweather did to Corrales they would feel a bit differently..

Castillo argueably won 1 of the 2 against Mayweather, but it wasnt convincing enough for the refs..

As for Golota/Brewster, you can rest assurred this will probably be Golota's last chance, though to me he won clean against Ruiz.. Im not really sure who will win, I think Brewster will give a better effort than his last fight, but I still think he will lose his belt to Golota one way or another. Probably ref stoppage.

How about thoughts on Kostya Tszyu vs Ricky Hatton??

Alot of people underrate Hatton, he is much better than credit he gets from Americans, but still, he will pretty much get TKO'd no matter what. I think he will put up a good fight on the road to being stopped.

I just hope Tszyu can get out of the ring unharmed tounge.gif You know since the fight is in England. If Golota wins, he wants to unify the WBA and WBO titles in a fight with Ruiz. I really want to see some unifcation between titles, it's been a while. That's really another real reason why I want Golata to win because he has intentions to do this, too bad that he said he will retire if he losses this fight. I personally think if Golata was better mentally, he could of been an even better fighter.

Here's a question, out of all the Heavyweight 'contenders', who do you think will 'save' the division? I think Samuel Peter has a chance but the problem with him is that he is all power. You just can't have a slugfest with someone who knows how to fight, once Peter can fix that then his potential is unlimited. Calvin Brock is a good prospect too but I still want him to fight someone like maybe Danny Williams.

I hate the Heavyweight division. I know Toney's chances are skeptical against that big oaf Klitschko, but honestly, he is the only person I want to see box in that division and he has been calling out all of the champions for years now.

Once this steroid bs clouds over, which it will, then Toney will move on to trying to get a shot at Byrd, Vitali, or Golota/Brewster.

Sam Peter is overrated as all hell. He hasnt even foughten anyone worth mentioned and he is more concrete footed then I think ive ever seen a boxer, Chris Byrd would dance circles around Peter, and Byrd isnt even the same guy anymore.

Yeah I'll admit it, the Heavyweight division hasn't been the same in a long time. Anyway, I believe B-Hop is fighting Jermain Taylor on the...16th of July? Really big fight if you ask me, I'm rooting for Hopkins though.

Ill be routing for him as well. He is supposed to be my Gtaforums ava but it still isnt working..

I feel that Taylor is way too green, even for an aging warrior like Hopkins. Sure he has a nice jab, but you need to bring more to the table than youth, and a jab to beat Hopkins.

I feel it might be a bit rougher than Jermaine expected, Hopkins will probably take it to him early and get under his skin with semi-dirty tactics, then stick with counterpunching the rest of the fight to an easy UD.

Hopkins sure does know how to get under peoples skin, I think it's great to watch colgate.gif Wright/Hopkins...even I would buy PPV to watch that and I rarely buy it, I hope this will be Hopkins next defense after he beats Taylor.

It probably will, though I woulndt be upset if it didnt end up happening.

But yeah it'll probably be Wright and then Tarver at Light Heavy.

Both of those fights will be extrememly tough, mostly because of Hopkins' age. If he was still 33-34 I would have him easily dismantling both of them.

Thanks for opening a topic about this, and about time. Respect straight up.

But anyways I would like to see James Toney vs. Mike Tyson, not for a belt but for a shot at the #1 contender spot. Even though Tyson I believe is below the top 10 in contenders for the #1 contender spot for one of the Heavyweight Belts.

Does also anyone else agree that there should just be one belt for each divison and add more divisons?

Heavyweight Title

Middleweight Title

Featherweight Title

Lightweight Title

Superlightweight Title

I am getting confused with 4 belts in each divison.

Well age always catches up eh. I was very disappointed in the Zab Judah fight last Saturday. He destroyed Rivera, was it not TKO by Round 3? I hope his next fight will have way more competion then the Rivera one. Has anyone seen Jean Marc Mormeck fight before? He has 3 Crusierweight titles but I have never ever seen him fight before.

Edit: @D Jones - I want to see Tyson fight against McBride before making any assumptions on his future. Of course I think Tyson will win this fight but I'm going to focus more on the ways he wins it.

First of all Tszyu-Hatton,I think the Manchester man's undefeated days are over in this one,Tszyu aint just a great boxer but he is pound for pound one of the hardest punchers in the world today,His right hand is murderous,I see a close few opening rounds with Hatton pressuring Tszyu but that will be his downfall,In the end after about 7 or 8 rounds i think Tszyu's counters would of been too much for the Manchester man and the fight will be stopped.

Hopkins-Taylor,I think Taylor isnt ready for this,I think he needed a few more fights before tackling the undisputed Champion,I think he will take it to Hopkins but Hopkins will move and box and throw fast counters like he did against Eastman and not engage in a war with the young lion,Hopkins by UD.

Well Friday Night Fights were on, the new IBF Cruiserweight Champion is O'Neil Bell...I watched the entire fight and I think that is completely bull sh*t. The scores were 114-112 (agreeable), 115-111 (eh..), 117-110 (that is terrible call). I'm not into Cruiserweights but Dale Brown definately won that fight. Eh oh well, Golota vs Brewster tomorrow, the weigh-ins have arrived and I'm pretty surpised. Golota weights 248 pounds and Brewster weights 224 pounds.

Wow, I don't know if y'all watchd the Brewster vs Golota fight but I was frankly shocked. I thought Golota would win or it would be close but Brewster came out of no where. Hell, Brewster knocked Golota down 3 times in Round 1! He won the right in a total of 53 seconds...that is simply..simply unbelievable. Much props to Lamon, he proved me wrong badly.

Golota is very unlucky when it comes to title fights.

He just wasnt meant to be Champion.

Id still think he would otubox Ruiz again.

Brewster destroying Golota shows how John Ruiz is a rubbish boxer.

Lamon came out firing, Golota wasn't ready for it and he immediatly lost his mental..'edge' in the fight. After you lose your mentality in a fight..well it's practiclly over. Oh well..Anyway, Since V Klit is fighting in September and Byrd is defending his title on July 23rd, I would like to see a Brewster/Ruiz fight to unify the WBO/WBA titles.

Zab just had to get the manditory out of the way so that they wouldnt strip the belt from him encase he needs to go to lengths to score the big money fights he's trying to get.

His next will be something to see. Im not his biggest fan but hes a blast to watch.

Tszyu/Hatton is so soon. I love both of them but I REALLY want to see the upset. Manchester would explode. Its just such a longshot.

Well anything can happen. You should bet 1 dollar on Hatton and if you win..well you will get a lot more then 1 dollar back tounge.gif I would of liked to see the Hatton-Tsyzu fight but I doubt it's going to be on HBO..I never buy any Pay-Per-View fights, I'd rather just go to a friends house who did buy it and watch biggrin.gif

Anyway, looking at the current fights coming up, I see the Gatti/Mayweather fight is in a month. What do you guys think about it? IMO I think that Mayweather will win this.

You know one thing I don't get though? When Toney called out Klitschko after he beat Ruiz..Klitchscko never responded but when Brewster called him out after Golota...he did. Klitschko responding to Brewster

Well I guess Vitali wants revenge on Brewster after Brewster beat Wlad...in a very interesting fashion might I add..

Well I just heard that Luan Kraqini won the Heavyweight WBO Title Eliminator against Lance Whitaker..Didn't hear much except Luan dominated Lance until he knocked him out in the 6th with a two jab combo and then a hard straight to the temple. Here are the other results from Stuttgart,Germany. Hey, isn't today 'Adios' final fight? I think it is against someone named Robison.

So nobody is as extatic as I am that Hatton worked the sh*t out of Kostya Tszyu??

They are both favorites of mine, but I wanted Hatton to win as the huge underdog. He showed us that he really wasnt that big of an underdog. He made Kostya look like William Joppy after his fight with Hopkins..

I just keep watching it. Awesome crowd, awesome performance from Ricky. (albeit a bit dirty, but so was Kostya)

I'm very happy that Hatton proved me wrong, I thought Tszyu was going to knock the hell out of Hatton. Tszyu did some low blows to Hatton and Hatton got sick of it and nailed him back. Heh tounge.gif

Well this Saturday there are a couple big fights, Cotto vs Abduelav(sp?) and Tyson vs McBride. The Tyson fight is going to late maybe 2-3 rounds, but who knows McBride might actually suprise everyone. Since the Brewster/Golota and the Hatton/Tszyu fight, I now believe that all underdogs have a chance to win. As for the Cotto fight, I say KO for Cotto by Round 9.

Over The Wall
I've always been a Tyson fan for some reason. The guy flat out intrigues me. Although it seems unlikely, I'm kind of pulling for him to make another run. I wonder if he has anything left in that tank of his. I think he fed it to the lions or tigers he used to own.

Well, in all honesty he's probably going to KO McBride within 2 rounds. If he continues to train the way he is training after he (hopefully) beats McBride then who knows, he might make a run and beat one of the champs. Unlikely but possible tounge.gif Tyson is defiantely a big name in boxing..If you watch Sportscenter you will see them show 5-10 minute parts of the show involving Tyson preparing for his fight this Saturday. The guy is getting more publicity fighting a mediocre fighter then an actual championship fight. I've seen some of his training tapes and he is looking pretty good, too bad his fight is on PPV..

This fight is for just that. For show. If Tyson has anything left to give, which he totally does, this Mcbride wont last 3 rounds.

He(Mcbride) was pretty out of shape at the weigh in, has lost to sh*tTY fighters, and he looked terrified the entire time Tyson talked at the presser.

My pick at doghouse was for a second round ko, but im almost doubting myself to go for the 1 rounder. It should be a quick slaughter.

Cotto/Abduellev should be good while it lasts. The only thing I cant stand about Cotto is that he gains 20 pounds after the weign in and comes to the fight at freaking middleweight. Most other guys at that weight, for example Hatton, wont come in at fight time anymore than 8 or 10 pounds over the limit.

Wow man..I am still honestly shocked. When I found out that McBridge TKOed Tyson..I thought it was a joke but it wasn't. I thought Tyson would KO McBride in 2 rounds but wow.. God damnit, simply unbelievable. Well Tyson's career is done and watch McBride get a title shot that he doesn't deserve (example: Look at Danny Williams after he beat Tyson)
