I have a question. Some games like wipeout pure(fun game btw) have the ability for extra add on content to be downloaded onto the memory stick, like vehicles and race tracks. Will it be possible for the modders to make unnoficial mods for these kinds of games? i would like to see some of the modders on this site do mods for gta.

I think the game needs to support that. Though, perhaps, if something like a Code Breaker is made for PSP, it could be used to replace some of the calls to UMD with calls to the memory stick. It wouldn't be easy to do, but it might be possible.

People have already begun cracking the PSP and it's underlying systems. I wouldn't consider it a stretch of the imagination to see the ability for games to be loaded off memory cards instead of UMDs in the near future.

Past experiences with Sony, however, have shown that their proprietry texture and model format are retarded, and they're obviously not willing to provide documentation unless you shell out the $10,000+ for a developers kit. confused.gif

All formats are crackable. I have decoded images, audio files, and 3D files in the past. Unless they actually encrypt the files, they can be decoded.

All of the homebrew development happening for the PSP is for firmware version 1.0 which was the original japan release.

The US release uses version 1.5 which has some type of encryption layer in it. So far, nobody has been able to get past anything in the 1.5 version to allow the PSP to do anything new. Nobody can get the code for the PSP to get past the encrytion layer, allowing access to the hardware.

This being said, I doubt that we will see any code breaker / cheat code devices out for the PSP any time soon.

Likewise, I know people are working on this type of stuff. People have already extracted the UMD discs to an ISO file and they are working on getting the ISO file to run off the memory stick. I dont know if that requires version 1.0 of the firmware or not.

I also know that games will require you to update to the latests (or current at release) version of the firmware to run the game. I.E. If you have a 1.0 firmware (Japan only) and want to play a new game, the game will force you to update. It might even have the update file on the UMD and automatically do it.

If you are looking for this type of info, I would check out these sites:

I'm pretty sure that Rockstar wont put in any support for replacement of files from the memory stick or downloadable updates like wipeout does. You never know, but I think they are developing just a stand alone game.

thanks for the input everyone, i guess we will just have to see what kind of possibilities it has when we get more info about the game.

Do you know if it would be possible to load the 1.0 firmware onto the PSP released in US?
