[TUT] HTML Learning.

This is my first tutorial but I've been coding HTML for a while... so here goes.

We're going to make an example site, this will maybe have a scrolling marquee (this is like words that scroll back and forth across the screen.) and maybe a few lines of text, a coloured background, formatted text and an image inserted.

You can start by either openning up notepad or any other text editor, as long as it's not wordpad (it doesn't seem to be much good at this.)

Now you should have a blank document and notepad or your chosen text editor.

Now we add the coding which you'll need in every website:

<html><head><title>New WebPage 1</title></head><body></body></html>

You can either copy and paste or type that, you can also change where it says 'New WebPage 1' to what ever you like as your title (appear on the top of your browser)

Now to insert a scrolling marquee you simply type:

<p><marquee>Example of a scrolling marquee</marquee></p>

under the

<body>

tag.

So now it'll look a little something like:

<html><head><title>New WebPage 1</title></head><body><p><marquee>Example of a scrolling marquee</marquee></p></body></html>

Now to insert a little bit of text.

<p><font face="Trebuchet MS" size="4">Example code for text.</font></p>

Again you insert this under the body tag, and under the marquee code.

The code above will produce text, with the font Trebuchet MS and it'll be 14pt in size. It will say "Example of code for text."

To leave a line in all of the coding use

</span>

placing it after the </p> tag.

Inserting an image:

<p><img border="0" src="http://place of file." width="size width" height="size height"></p>

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What it all means:

<html> - Start of the html code.

<head> - Head of the page.

<title>New WebPage 1</title> - Title.

</head> - End of the head of the page.

<body> - Body of the page.

<p> - Start of the paragraph.

<marquee>Example of a scrolling marquee</marquee> - Marquee code.

</p> - End of the paragraph.

</span> - Leave a line.

<img border="0" src="http://place of file." width="size width" height="size height"> - Insert an image.

</html> - End of the html code.

</body> - End of the body.

</html> - End of the html code.

A. Never teach anyone useless HTML tags.

B. Never teach people to use the FONT tag, tell them to learn CSS.

C. How the f*ck did that tut help at all?

D. Have you ever heard of <br />? Cause you can't use your '</span>' without having a start span tag.

E. Do you even know XHTML? Or HTML for that matter?

@Svip... it's for users just starting out. Gawd.

Doesn't help people at all.

You teach them extremely useless tags, and you also couldn't tell them how to make a break line.

If you want to teach people how to code, teach them table tags and such.

Thanks for your time and effort, but i'd advise to learn the language a little more in-depth before writing anything.

If you teach newbies* incorrect code from the start, they'll have a hard time correcting their ways.

* used in a respectful manner.

Shall I update my first post adding in tables and such?
