DexX
/* 'nuff said? Don't know what *exactly* that means, but any kind of official support is better than none, which is what we have now */ Edit: i know this is covered a bit in d8cam's topic, but this is in and of itself, worthy of discussion and speculation. LSD
Maybe 'Player Modification' means the feature with the bmp-skin to change the skin of CJ. But 'create their own worl' sounds like a bigger feature .
DexX
/* yea, the "create their own world" line is what caught my attention. i can barely begin to speculate what they mean though; most of the map files are already text-editable documents. but none of the map pieces are modular, it would be extremely difficult to make a new, convincing map, using existing pieces. that would imply some sort of model-exporter to create truly new and unique maps. but since they license their technology (Renderware) we thought that such a thing may not be possible. maybe that deal with EA buying rednerware has something to do with it, we'll probably never know. or maybe im just full of sh*t and wishful thinking. June 7 cannot come fast enough. */
DJNeuphoria
Doubtful but maybe this time round we'll finally be getting some official tools!
GTAGuy
I might as well move my post from d8cam's topic to the apropriate place: Player modability support. Sounds very good indeed. Hopefully they've eased the burden of having to hack into numerous files of the game, finding opcodes and whatnot, to make the game do what we want it to do. And hopefully they've expanded the limits of the game (IP numbers, COLs, Dummies, etc..) to allow us more freedom to add new things to the game. Maybe we might even be able to ADD vehicles to the game instead of replacing existing ones. Or even add Vice and Liberty city into the game with SA, not that I'm getting to ahead of myself, but only if it would be possible. The prospect of being able to do all of this excites me greatly. It's only a matter of time before we find out if all of this is finally possible.
viperdude
maybe they will allow you to do like a sim city sort of thing and make it real easy for noobs to mod the map. cause the way they put it "create your own world withing san andreas" makes it sounds like that. I know it is a little far fetched but if they actually added a simcity like map editor it would be awesome.
GTA3Freak-2001
As illy said in the other topic I don't think it means anything except that Rockstar adknowledge the modding aspect that the modding community does and have kept it rather similar and given us better options rather then them offering tools for us. I'm almost 99.999999% certain they won't be giving us any real mod tools. By "support", they most likely mean that they've gone through and made many things easier to mod, which they have. They've listened to many of our collective complaints, and stuck more things into text files (as opposed to hardcoding them in the exe), and simplified other stuff. For the most part, anything in the game can be edited with Notepad except for the models, textures, and mission scripts. Models and textures are a proprietary third-party format (now owned by *gasp* EA), so it's unlikely we'll see any tools or docs for those. We already have user tools for them though, so it's hardly an issue. Mission script formats, on the other hand, are developed in house at R*^, but they probably won't feel compelled to give us those either since we've been cracking those for the last two games anyway. SWEETSAPRIK
I'm stupid so feel free to flame me, but could they mean that they will be releasing the alternate versions of the casino, and other things that you were supposed to be able to "build" in SA? I thought I heard that you were supposed to be able to build a casino, or something along those lines that was found in the code? Maybe you'll be able to import different versions of certain buildings, or something. Maybe they will be reintroducing some of those things that they left out of SA on the PS2. Or like that area in SF by the burgershot that says "space available" maybe they will have different replacements for sections like that. Eh, whatever, just a thought. PяopagaиdaIиc. Killer_Waffle
it's hard to predict what rockstar means by the "create your own world" could be a a type of sandbox editor (one can dream) or improvements for the modding community, it can go either way.... we'll know coming june 7th as for building a casino or replacing certain spots on the map, i wouldn't immediatly dismiss it, i guess it depends on how that would affect the rest of the sa world
GTA3Freak-2001
Well Rockstar could pull a rabbit out of the hat and give us something special, I'll eat my hat if they do though
Killer_Waffle
*grabs his tophat and starts preparing it* yes indeed, there might be a rabbit all of a sudden, would be a great surprise... maybe they'll feel generous since it's the last one of those series and want to give each console release something different... as mentioned a little higher up, being able to just add cars, instead of having to replace them, would make allready a big difference, although not only cars, but bikes and maybe planes...something like a parachute with a motor strapped to your back... Th3 ProphetMan
f they only make car/ped editing 3dsmax friendly im gonna be the most ******* happy person in the planet... on the other hand its the last gta game using that engine, so maybe they thought about their tools and decided to give them away instead of letting them be forgotten for ever and ever... know that woudl the fantastic ha but hey! if the said "creat your own world".... you never know maybe they've got a nice surprise for us.... look at max payne, that's another R* game and the tools set is very cool

Killer_Waffle
there's one very important keyword that's not underlined, that's "within" so it's within the existing borders of san an that we'll be able to mod to our hearts content it looks like...still counting down! GTA3Freak-2001
look at max payne, that's another R* game and the tools set is very cool Actually Max Payne isn't a Rockstar game its just published by Take 2/Rockstar, Remedy actually created Max Payne. Jordan
True mod support sure is a long shot. However, I hope they reveal what they mean when they say "create your own world" when I go to E3.
[DMA]Blunted
"most of the map files are already text-editable documents. but none of the map pieces are modular, it would be extremely difficult to make a new, convincing map, using existing pieces. that would imply some sort of model-exporter to create truly new and unique maps. but since they license their technology (Renderware) we thought that such a thing may not be possible" Actually no, Renderware it's self uses a BSP tree for maps. Rockstar North uses a custom IDE/IPL/DFF based system for their maps making the mapping part of their game unique to them so it's really their choice if they release an exporter. So therefor it's safe to say there will be an offcial model exporter, as well as col exporter, adf exporter and so on. as well as documented limits for file sizes. (gta3.img etc) So far it looks like this will be the best version for modder's which is great since so many total conversions like myriad islands gta lc and I would imagine a fourth coming gta vc in sa tc.
