Im just now reading that these blue ray discs can hold up to 25gb on a single layer and 50gb on a dual layer(yes i know im slow catching on). Wow im impressed, could you imagine what you could do with 50gb on a GTA game. Or anygame for that matter? Im suprised Microsoft didnt use it as well.

I can't wait till the PS3 comes out it is going to kick @$$!!! By the way, I heard something about 200 GB on the blueray discs. Is this true that would be awesome you could almost or probably can make GTA: USA on one or two discs. The PS3 is going to be 2x better, or more, than Xbox 360. The graphics on the PS3 or double on the Xbox 360. I wonder how good the graphics are going to be on the next GTA. I really can't wait for it to come out, I will have to earn alot of money somehow. Even though the PS3 price is a rumour it is most likely to be around 350 USD, I think.

With the capability of the ps3, there won't be any excuses for crappy graphics in gta now. Don't get me wrong the gta graphics weren't terrible but they weren't great.

Your are right. The graphics should be better, if not that is a very big disapointment!

SBizz6- A mixture of those two graphics should be close or better than the next GTA graphics.

Its gonna be wierd now seeing as Sony will actually have a better grip over graphics over Microsoft. I'm so used to xbox fanboy little sh*ts allways saying how the Xbox is so superior to the PS2 just because it has slightly better graphics. I guess it won't be that way no more.

With that in mind, I have no choice but to just wait until the PS3 comes out. Theres way bettter games for the PS3 than the 360.

Yep, thats all true. Blu-Ray has the capacity of going up to 8 layers, so then it futureproof so that means that we'll be with blu-ray for a long time now cos i cant see any game needed to use 200gbs of stuff.

The only problem with these huge discs is the development time, think about it for a second, it took R* 2 years to develop San Andreas, that was only 4GB. How long is it going to take to develop a 25, or 50 GB game? I think thats a major reason for Microsoft opting for DVDs

And I must admit, graphically, the Getaway is looking great. Hopefully that'll translate to the gameplay.

Sounds logical, which probably also explains why Rockstar is not releasing GTA4 alongside the release of the PS3.

There's one thing, though. The reason for why Rockstar have been able to release so many games as of late, is not because they're rushed, but because they've been developed simultaneously. I cannot confirm this in anyway, but it seems logical to me. I know for a fact that GTA4 started development right after the release of Vice City, if not earlier. Rockstar announced at a press conference that they were developing a new game engine to be used in GTA4, and released on PS3. Rockstar has a lot of divisions all over the world, all capable of developing games, so they've taken advantage of their capability for multitasking. This means that GTA4 has been under development for about 4 years now, adding the odd year to the release of the PS3, and the fact that it will not be released with the PS3, ends up around 5-5½ years. Which should be just about the longsest development time for any of their games.

Hope that made sense. ~az

I'm somewhat dissapointed with the new Gran Turismo game. I'm glad its gonna be more realistic, to the point where they're actually gonna have car damage in the game now, but the graphics are identical to that of the PS2 versions. I think it just goes to show that even though these next-gen consoles are gonna be extremely powerful, they're still not a staggering leap from the current consoles we have today.

What exactly are you basing these observations on? Low-res videos and pictures, released over a year before the 'possible' release of the game? That's more than ignorant. ~az

Hands-on Revolution
Some people can take part in a revolution, but how many can say that they actually touched one? We're feeling pretty lucky this afternoon as we write these impressions, for just an hour ago Nintendo of America granted us access to its Revolution. Following an interview with the company's vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, we were ushered into a small room located in the closed-off upstairs section of its E3 booth. Hidden away in a room guarded by two muscle-bound security guards - we kid you not - were multiple powered-on demo units of Revolution, which Nintendo allowed us to touch, and yes, even caress. Based on our hands-on encounter with the machine, we can safely say that Revolution looks every bit as sleek and modern up-close as it does in photos.

A grand total of six Revolution consoles were on display in the top-secret room. On one side, Nintendo spotlighted the platform in five different consoles, including green, silver, white, black and red. Meanwhile, in the middle of the room an additional black system was displayed on a well-lit podium, and it was this unit that we had the opportunity to pick up and examine.

On-hand representatives for Nintendo explained that the company is still determining possible colors for Revolution and that the hues of the units on display were by no means final. Still, finished or not, the color choices are already far superior to the toy-purple that the publisher chose to run with for GameCube. We were particularly drawn to the glossy black and white Revolution units. The white Revolution looks like an Apple product, which is just about the highest compliment we can pay an industrial design.

user posted image

A lot of gamers complained that the GameCube felt cheap, due to the toy-like nature of the unit's shell. Nintendo has definitely addressed this criticism with Revolution. The console is encased in a high-tech, shiny, reflective shell that's both heavier and sturdier than the plastic used for GameCube. The black console in particular reminds us exactly of the skin for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) from Sony. In fact, we noticed that after we handled the unit for some time, our thumbprints were clearly recognizable on its surface, which is a common problem with Sony's handheld, too. However, given that the machine isn't a handheld, this isn't a factor. On a side note, many of Sony's high-end televisions are encased in the same glass-like plastic, which means that the Revolution will match perfectly with gamers' high-end home entertainment centers.

The Revolution rests snugly in an included silver-white base. It can be set horizontally on a flat surface or laid vertically on its side. The system is tiny -- much smaller than PlayStation 2, Xbox or even GameCube. It also weighs less than any of the aforementioned systems and Nintendo says it's only going to get smaller and lighter with the finalized design.

user posted image

Depending on whether the Revolution is situated horizontally or vertically, its GameCube docking section is located beneath a flap on the right side or top of the unit respectively. The flap is easily raised to reveal four GameCube controller ports and two GameCube Memory Pak slots. This area is of course dedicated to the idea of backward compatibility. Revolution's new controller is likely to be dramatically different from anything we've seen before, and therefore Nintendo needed to include ports for the old pads so that new buyers could continue to enjoy old GameCube software.

Software designed specifically for Revolution will make use of its wireless controllers and therefore there are no other ports for such devices on the machine.

The Revolution's slot-loading drive is unbelievably gorgeous when viewed up close. It really is striking. The drive is not just illuminated, but surrounded by a sleek blue light, and it accepts both GameCube Optical Discs and new 12cm discs designed specifically for Revolution. The interesting bit is that the drive easily takes both sizes without any fuss. Gamers just drop any GCN or Revolution title in and it automatically works. Nintendo indicated that the drive is one of the first to intuitively do that. Power, reset and eject buttons are located on the front panel of the unit. Meanwhile, a flap on the front of the machine hides the slots for the 512MB memory cards that Revolution utilizes for downloads and game saves.

user posted image

What about the back of the unit, though? Tech-nuts want to know, what kind of outputs does the machine have? Well, there are two USB ports and a power connection. The machine features no digital audio out. Instead, it boasts a single proprietary output for video and audio. The output looks exactly like the component out on GameCube. We asked Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto if Revolution would play high-definition games and he told us that he wasn't sure if he was allowed to say yet. Still, we expect a bare minimum of 480p support and likely 720p or 1080i, too, given that previous comments from Nintendo execs suggested that the platform would be able to hook up to a computer monitor.

Source.

Well, it seems Nintendo are taking it up a notch.

They've taken the GC aspects of the console, by keeping the controller ports for the original controllers, and the memory card slots.

However, it seems that you'll have to spin the console around to get to the GC dock, where as the front of it may have the ports for the new Revolution controller... but then again they could be wireless.

Damn it, I'm so stuck for choice now.

RUMOR #1: The Killzone PlayStation 3 tech demo was prerendered.

Source: Forums all over the place, such as this thread on Evil Avatar.

The official story: See below.

What we heard: When the lights at Monday's PlayStation 3 demo came up, the audience members picked up their jaws off the floor...and began wagging their tongues. Like a game version of the Kennedy assassination, the audience quickly split into two camps: Those who thought the demo was prerendered, making it essentially computer animation, and those who thought it was rendered in real time, which means it would be close, graphically, to actual gameplay. The fires of speculation were fueled further by the ambiguous comments of Jan-Bart Van Beek, game eirector of the PS3 Killzone at Guerrilla Games, to the official PlayStation UK site."It's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make," he said. Then a post on the Eurogamer forums laid out a tantalizing conspiracy: Axis Animation, the same Scottish computer animation company that made a cinematic for the first Killzone, had been working on the E3 demo for months as straight-up CG. So how does Sony respond to the allegations? Far from being evasive, it met them head-on. "Yes, it is real time," a rep told GameSpot.

Bogus or not bogus?: Believe Sony? Bogus. Think Sony's lying? Not Bogus.

Is it not true that you were telling people not to post news updates about next gen consoles, on this thread, before you guys. If not, it was a misunderstanding.

This will be my last post on this thread, because it has nothing to do with the topic itself.

As for the killzone thing. I've been getting mixed reports. Some say one, some say the other, some say both. Since people from sony are saying different things. I say bullsh*t. Someone is lying, because it can't be both 100% realtime, and 50% CG. Which I've heard people from sony say both. And if someone is lying, it'd probably be the "representation" of what it'll look like.
