-GRAVITY2-
Please implant a spell checker option to every post. It would help alot of people and it would allow the forum to be a much more respectable place. For example if there was a spell checker we would be able to visit san andreas chat without the n00b talk. Now please greatly consider this. Thank you -GRAVITY2-
kevin2006rhs
Well I guess the real question here is how hard would that be? In all reality, every internet based e-mail provider [yahoo, hotmail, google, ect] has the spell check option. i have thought of this many a time and found that it is just as easy to go to my e-mail, type in a word that I am not shure of, and spell check it alone. If that doesnt work, learn how to spell. Anyways, it is a good thought, but it has been discussed already, a year or two ago. Who knows what their thoughts are on the subject now; maybe their views have changed over time? Link
Chunky Lee Chong
If the n00bs actually cared about how they talked, they would make a slight effort to learn grammer or open up Microsoft Word.
-GRAVITY2-
Ha what a coincidence i took my opening post for this topic and ran it through word to see if there was any spell errors so i dont look like a idiot. But i dont know personally i think it would be easier to click a button then to open another app.
Chunky Lee Chong
Using my experiences from GameFAQs, I'll assume that the spell check goes something like this. You press a button for it to spell check, much like the 'add reply' or 'preview post' buttons, and you have to wait for your browser to load (which you could be quickly or slowly depending on the size of your post). Whereas you could just copy and paste your text into word, and quickly run through finding your mistakes. Whatever floats your boat.
EmSixTeen
People who suck a spelling and grammar don't care for spellcheckers anyway. If you're in dire need, use Spellbound.

If people wanted to spell correctly, they would learn how to do so and not check it for errors. If they don't give a sh*t about their spelling, they're not going to check it for errors. The Phantom Menace
I don't really see the point of having a Spellchecker installed. What would be the point? Hardly anyone will bother to use it and it would be a waste of the admins/mods time to put it on here. I would just leave it as it is.
Luke2004
This should be in forum suggestions. Spell checkers aren't needed, as if you feel that you're spelling something incorrect, just type it into MicroSoft Word, or any other spell checker. Luke
This should be in forum suggestions. Correct -- I'll move it. Who honestly cares if a post is spelt correctly or not, as long as you know what the post is saying, it's all good. It's another one of the suggestions that probobly falls into the "More effort than it's worth" category I'm afraid. adam broke it.

Anyway, the real solution is for people to get FireFox and use the Dictionary.com quicksearch box in the top-right corner. Easy peasy. (EDIT) An automated spellchecker on the forums would not be a good idea, though. Since discussions here are often technical and use filenames, character names and abbreviations, the spellchecker would find loads of errors when these things were actually correct. Also, it would pick up on grammar errors which are a lot more of a problem, since if the words are in a confused order or parts are missed out it easily leads to misunderstandings. The people who make the horrible spelt messages using short hand and numbers are not going to go through the time to check if they've spelled something wrong. Even if they do, the spell checker isn't going to have any suggestions for the word 'gr8'. Yeah, an automated spellchecker would be a bad idea, which is why a manual spellchecker would be better. It would be much like the post preview, except it would highlight the words that it believes are misspelled, list them and list any suggestions it would have to replace that word. Picking up on grammar errors is not the job of a spell checker and would require a second checker, or if you wanted it could be integrated into the spell checker. magical_trevor
Doesn't phpBB have a spellchecker as an add on? I don't think Invision does though... Also, why has this topic been renamed "A Smell Checker"?

SWEETSAPRIK
why has this topic been renamed "A Smell Checker"? LMAO. Because this idea is stinky. As people have mentioned, most of the members that make spelling mistakes won't use it, it will bring up every shorthand or abbreviation, most member names, it'll take time for them to add it (Time that they'll be wasting.) and most importantly the people who smell spell the worst do so on purpose. Example: Liek dis syte iz da koolist, werd biyatches, eye pwn all youze @ GTA, nun uf u can git wit ma skyllz You think people like that will use it? This would only really help people who make one or two small mistakes, and I can understand what they're saying anyway. Not to mention that if someone doesn't know how to spell the word, how will they know which of the suggested spellings to pick? (EDIT) lol, added an "e" to abbreviation, ironic that I'd mispell something in the "Spell checker" topic. Edited April 30, 2005 by SWEETSAPRIK PяopagaиdaIиc. Johnno
To check if topics are smelly or not? Makes sense to me. I don't see why you people open a cumbersome program like Word just to check a word. That's what Google defined is for.
