[RELEASE] GTAForums FireFox Extension

PatrickW

Recommended Posts

Thanks again everyone for the feedback...

@SWEETSAPRIK:

This functionality has already been added to the next release.

It'll also have:

- attribution pop-up for quotes

- cursor position inside the tags, if performed without an initial selection

- numbered lists

- selection -> (unnumbered)list

- table-entry by pop-up

- headerfields in tables

- some reshuffling and renaming of the menu lay-out

- some other minor things I forgot

I'm in the process of getting the current version of the gtafcode-extension listed on the official firefox extension site.

Once that is done, the next release will be soon....

I could also include a couple of smillies in the menu, but not:

I'm thinking of adding these:

mad.giftounge.gifbiggrin.gifcool.gifinlove.gifsarcasm.gifwink.gifph34r.gifcookie.gif

Additions/replacements are welcome ..

I don't know the limitations, but, how about in the options menu (assuming that there is one) you have a tab dedicated to the emoticons, to let the user pick the ones that they use most.

Nice work. I really like the table thing it makes making tables easy. You could also do a align button as well. Its a really good extension and easy to use! Thanks. smile.gif

Should be submitted to mozilla.org

That it should, but I think Patrick is waiting until the next version of the extension is finished. smile.gif

You seriously must freeze your sperm for future generations.

It's on the firefox extension list.

I went to annoy them into adding it, and found that it was already there. So I rated it, left a comment, and downloaded it again just for good measure.

Pointless. You'd be able to find and click the one you want faster than you can right-click the posting area, and navigate the menus to it.

Wow, you are the man. I'm constantly awe-inspired by the sh*t people can do for one forum. Thanks again as this makes things a lot simpler.

It's made in javascript as XUL (XML userInterface Language) as all firefox extensions.

www.xulplanet.com is the place to go for info on XUL.

Javascript is all over the internet.

Information about packaging a firefox extensions can be found Here, although that page describes the new format for the upcoming FireFox1.1, it also contains info on the old 1.0 method.

Click this clicky

Click the thing that says "Install now"

When it's done you'll have to close firefox, and open it again for it to actually install.

Then when you're posting just right click in the text box and select GTAForums code.

Erm... What else?
oh yeah... I don't think
*that the update to
include smilie posting from
the right-click menu
Unhappy reader says to stop that

would be a good idea...it's quicker to click the smilies on the left.

System_Shutdown thinks it's a good idea

EDIT: Stupid me forgot to select the table and click table.

Hi guys,

I updated the first post of the topic for the release of version 0.2.0

You can install it at mozilla update site or if you have the previous version already installed, from your extension window ( tools->extensions) in firefox.

Changes from the 0.1.1 version:

• Improved handling of cursor position; when tags are inserted without a selection, the cursor will be placed inside the tags, for easy text-insertion.

• Improved handling of Selection; when a tag is applied to a selection, the selection is preserved, and the new tags are included in the selection. This make applying multiple tags to a slection very easy.

• Added some missing tags.

• added attribution pop-up for

.

• tables and lists can now be made from a selection or with popups (if notyhing was selected).

• added support for numbered lists.

• added support for header-fields in tables.

• reshuffled the menu to keep them compact.

Not that we need it anymore, but just because it makes me proud:

The author of BBcode was very impressed with the cursor/selection handling, and that will also be included in the next BBcode version (0.4.0, to be released shortly).

have fun...

Very nice one Patrick, I'm impressed. As little as I use the buttons (never tounge.gif) and now this extension, it is still very handy. I just need to get used to doing it the lazy way and using your extension now, after three years of manually coding everything heh.
