PresidentKiller
Half-life 2 is considerably more resource-hungry than the Sims 2, I believe. Anyway, it looks like I'll be able to run it no problem. Thing is, I don't have a DVD drive yet; what's the difference between 8x and 16x or more? I know it's the speed at which it reads the CD, but what does that translate to in terms of performance? Anything above 12x is exactly the same... And how come your computer is capable of playing "current" games and not have a DVD-ROM drive??
Sillyhed2000
I have no games that require a DVD drive, nor do I want any. This being an obvious exception of course. It's not like every game in the last two years demands a DVD drive.
GTA3Freak-2001
I'm kind worried about something. I'm pretty sure I can run it, as my video card is the "at least" card in the recommended setting. But I'm worried about the Real Time World Reflections on the cars. You see: When I play The Sims 2, I have the option for "FULL REFLECTION' and it works great. But as for Half-Life 2, I have no REFLECTIONS at all. I think I should get real time world reflections on San Andreas, as Half-Life 2 is slightly biased against low budget cards. There is something I know I probably won't have is, and thats the speed "blur". I have Need for Speed Underground and it doesn't allow me to have the NOS blur. But then again, all games uses different engines... Ah but SA won't have "real-time reflections" like Sims 2 or HL2, it will be a sort of effect to fool you as it will only reflect the actual static enviroment and not anything in the enviroment like other cars and peds. So you can't really compare them to the ones in HL2 and Sims 2. @silly - It really only relates to how fast the game installs ie. transferring the data to your HD and accessing the disc which depending on what install you chose is very rare. Its hardly noticable tbh

flitcroft101
and each loading screen takes about 5 seconds heck, what specs do you have? Mine takes a little longer than that.. but i was looking at the VC PC system requirements, they are pretty similar: Vice City Specs: minimum: 800MHz Intel Pentium III or 800MHz AMD Athlon or 1.2GHz Intel Celeron or 1.2GHz AMD Duron processor 128MB RAM 8 Speed CD / DVD Drive 915MB hard disk space (+ 635MB if video card does not support DirectX texture compression) 32MB video card with DirectX 9.0 compatible drivers Slightly higher processor and memory and graphics card, and of cause DVD. Im not sure the computer i run it on is new

The-Kevster
Why is a joystick with two sticks recommended? Might as well just carry on playing the PS2 version. Its hardly noticable tbh ^ Yes, this is what I was thinking about too. I remember playing the ps2 version at my cousin's house, and noticing the Reflect "World" (as Half-Life 2 puts it) effect. I wasn't quite sure if the game would still let me have those glorious reflect world reflections. Because, honestly, if it doesn't have them, the cars will lose flare. I mean really, it'll feel like I'm playing Grand Theft Auto 3 or something. If you need to know my crappy graphics card, it's a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX. Yep, crappy, but til I get a job, the best I got. Wow, I didn't know anyone else had that crappy gfx card like I do, a GeForce 4 MX 420 (PCI). Also, I only have an 800 MHz P3 and no DVD-ROM (blah). I will be graduating soon and I will also be getting a full-time job so I will definitely be getting a new PC.

JDHenry105
Greetings, Quick question. Should I expect any problems from running GTA:SA off of my laptop? I've got an ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 PRO TURBO 128 MB, Intel Pentium M 1.6 ghz, DVD drive, and 512 MB RAM. I appear to have the requisite specs, but I am aware that games sometimes perform differently on laptops than on desktop PCs. I've never played a GTA game on my pc before, so can't compare. I'd hate to buy the game only to find out that I need to spend a couple hundred bucks more to upgrade my computer. Thanks.

Cran.
9600 Pro Turbo = Yes. It's a PM 1.6, which is about the same as a 2.6-2.8 P4, which will be fine. This is going to come off rude, but what makes you think we have any idea how it's going to run? Because he posted his specs, and we have the required. Well i'm happy with these requirments, since i'll be running SA with 8x FSAA @ 1680x1050x32 all the time.
GTAKhaoZ
Well, now that we all know it's coming out exclusively on DVD, and I plan on getting a new PC within a few months, I'll just have to wait 'til then to buy SA:PC. I've waited this long... what's another couple of months?

Cran.
Forget running SA with Anti Analising, because the 5200 FX sucks majorly. Look at a Nvidia 6600GT, the 6600GT is a great budget card. Maybe if you have the money, look at a X800XL. Get more ram too, 512MB isn't that good.
