Various Problems

Ok, my computer seems to be developing more and more problems as the days pass, perhaps someone can help with them?

Problem 1: One out of every two times I turn on my computer, it runs laggy as all hell once it gets upto the Windows XP loading screen. Its seems to run fine for ten seconds then freeze for ten seconds and continue to run like that constantly. It takes four times as long to load windows than it would normally and when you move the mouse, press the start button, etc it takes seven seconds to respond.

Problem 2: When browsing the internet using the latest version of internet explorer(when the first problem is not taking affect) some websites won't load, windows media player will not work in Internet Explorer windows, games wont work in explorer windows and downloads will not work (I just get error messages saying that the page is unable to be contacted, etc).

Specs:

Intel Celeron 1.2GHZ processor

512MB SD RAM

Acer Motherboard

Onboard 32MB Graphics

Onboard Sound

Quantam Fireball 4GB HDD

Unknown 6GB HDD

52x CD-Rom

52x32x52 Lite-On CD-RW

Windows XP Home SP1 & SP2

Help!

The only answer I can give you is to try My Scans™....better known as Wolf Scans™

Ad-Aware, Spybot and anti-virus scans

ScanDisk and Defrag are a good idea as well

Here is your problem:

Intel Celeron 1.2GHZprocessor Pretty good for windows me (not good for xp)

512MB SD RAM This is good

Acer Motherboard This is good for the processor you have

Onboard 32MB Graphics Sucky! (should upgrade)

Onboard Sound Alright.

Quantam Fireball 4GB HDD Small as Heck (could upgrade)

Unknown 6GB HDD Small as Heck (could upgrade)

52x CD-Rom good

52x32x52 Lite-On CD-RW good

Windows XP Home SP1 & SP2 <problem (you probably upgraded right?)

/\

This Should be windows me or windows 98se for better performance

(probably Your problem and you dont need to upgrade if you just downgrade this)

You sir, are mindless.

@Topic - A 1.2 Celeron runs XP fine, seeing as a 500mhz Celeron runs it fine as well. There are no problems with your system unless you want more performance.

Do some Wolf Scans and get back to us. Also, run HijackThis (google for d/l), and post your log.

Make sure your fully Win updated, and maybe do a repair installation if you have the XP CD.

Its not the best computer I know, but all I use it for is surfing the internet, occasionally some homework and stuff like that. Its also not a bad computer considering I got all the parts for free. I do keep my windows up to date with all the latest updates and such, but no it wasn't an upgrade from a previous OS it was a full clean install of Windows XP. The internet problem has fixed itself (must've been a one off but I still have the boot-up problems. I highly doubt that theese problems are down to my processor being only a 1.2ghz as I've run Windows XP on at least a dozen computers ranging from 133mhz - 300mhz without any problems whatsoever, in the last six months or so.

Just for the record, the hard drives and graphics cards will be upgraded when money allows.

How long have you had that install of windows? Windows manages to f*ck it self over in about a year with my experences. Maybe a total full reformat will fix everything up? If no, try some virus scans, spyware etc.

Its only been installed for two or three months now. I've tried all the spyware scans, registry scans, virus scans etc and finding those errors and fixing them has made no difference.

Maybe a re-formatting is in order, since not all of the Spyware could be gone, as they can't really get rid of them all apperently. Just wipe it!

My install has been going strong for two years. Windows does not "f*ck itself over". Installing loads of sh*t and letting yourself get spyware/adware can f*ck it up beyond recognition though, and this isn't Windows' fault.

@bdww69: You're an idiot. 1.2Ghz is more than enough to run XP. I've had it running on 200MHz PCs fine.

@Richard Zurawski: Go into Start => Run => msconfig => Startup tab and see if there's anything you don't want/don't recognise there. Maybe something that starts at startup is causing the problems. And do Wolf Scans if you haven't of course.
