Best type of government

Recommended Posts

Enano

Democracy, Federal Republics, etc. seem perfect, every citizen that is 18 year old (or older) votes for the desired president, the winner is the new head of the government, and (s)he rules for a certain amount of years and can be relected (depending on the country). But it seems to me that democracy can be easly broken, and many countries have had totalitarian governments after some crazy guy lies to get power and breaks the law without being stopped.

So I'm starting this topic to share opinions. Is democracy weak? Which is better between all the kind of governments? What kind of government rules your country? Is it being successful?

Anarchy is the natural government. But people are not responsible enough to handle an anarchy. Then there the the exact oposite with communism, but that seems to oppresive when put into practice. I guess the perfect government hasn't been discovered yet.

I believe a democracy is the best type of government but I do agree that democracies are generally weaker than other types of governments.

As for anarchy, it sounds great on paper but humans have naturally chaotic tendencies and there are factors like greed which come into play. It wouldn't last very long either, as you would probably see tribes of people gathering up together again and nations possibly appearing again after a long period of time. (I'm no expert at this kind of thing but that's what I believe.)

I also live in the US which is actually a federal republic despite common belief. It's not a true democracy. Maybe one of you guys reading this topic learned something new today. wink.gif

Agreed, communism looks good on paper, but can't be applied to the real world. For now, democracy is most fitting for the people, but that may change some day.

Anarchy is the natural government

I would fervently disagree. The concepts of “government” and “anarchy” are somewhat mutually exclusive.

Anarchy relates to disorder.

Government relates to organisation.

Please explain to me how disorder is the “natural” state of organisation.

I have a problem understanding complex situations and theoretical constructs, so if you would be so good as to answer my question in very simple (few syllable) terms, I would be more than grateful.

Many thanks smile.gif

Bullseye.

Even with the corruption, America isn't a Democracy.

Yeah, America is democratic, but not a true democracy. I believe (like Mafia Righthand_Man said) we are actually considered a federal republic or "legislative democracy". Meaning we vote on our legislators, and then they vote on the issues.

No government ever has, or will be a true democracy. It wouldn't be able to function. In a true democracy, everyone would get to vote on every issue. Imagine everyone in the country having to vote on whether to fill the potholes on your street. Or the country is attacked and before we can defend ourselves, or go to war everyone has to vote.

Technically, true democracies only exist for smaller groups.

But I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect form of government. It's like the perfect fruit, it's open to interpretation.

In my opinion though democratic countries are better for the people than non-democratic countries. If the whole world was communist, it would have a chance, but as long as there are non-communist countries, there aren't enough resources to go around.

(EDIT)

Even though a democratic government is more open to corruption, communism and other non-democratic governments don't need to be corrupt to hurt the individual. That is their purpose, to take away certain freedoms, and luxuries from the individual, so that the whole group can live under the poverty line and get squished by tanks. j/k

So again I think that democratic is best, but no one has quite perfected it yet.

(RE-EDIT)

Spoof is correct in his assertion that anarchy is not a form of government. It should not even be in a discussion of "the best type of government", since anarchy is by definition the total lack of government. And although some would like to just go around with no laws taking what they want when they want, anarchy is the worst situation. The people have no rights, because rights are given to us by our governments. Someone could come along and steal your car, and there would be no law against it, and no one to enforce the non-existent law. Anarchy results in the strong surviving and flourishing, while the weak get sh!tstomped into the dirt.

The problem with modern western democracy is that mandatory sterilisation for those parents incapable of producing offspring other than those best described as Muppet is considered “wrong”.

I would most definitely disagree with such a view.

The above quotation only seeks to emphasise the reason why.

I'd love to see an anarchistic society one day, but it would require people actually being people and not the f*cking monsters it seem we all eventually turn into. It's an ideal, to most anarchists, and nothing more. It's just a hopeful wish, it's something we'd love to be a part of, but most of us anarchists know that it won't work in this day and age because people are basically idiots.

Oh, and before you go and try to slander my views, please try to not that I'm not some f*ckin' mall punk who buys sh*t branded with the anarchy symbol and boats it around not realizing they are funding capitalism. There are educated anarchists out there, just like there are educated communists. Don't be so closed minded and assume that people are idiots just because they don't support what you believe in.

EDIT: user posted image

Better anarchy symbol then that lame ass "A" in a circle.

Anyway, that comment about anarchy being disorder... that's not true. Anarchy is simply a civiliazation without a government. You have to remember that governments are idealized and set up based on how people would act "naturally". It's for this reason that anarchy could work some day. If you slowly educate the people on how to respect eachother instead of simply scaring them into abiding to your rules, then you will find that a government system isn't even needed.

Hey, a good example of an anarchistic society that worked is the Indians. They had no government system in place, they just had all the same morals and they lived in peace for the longest time until the f*ckin' Americans came in and had to f*ck sh*t up.

Definately not democracy. I hate democracy and I always have, because everyone has limitless powers where they can define their life. They can be a homeless bum if they choose, or they can be the owner of the largest software company in the world. I myself do not favor the rich, in fact - I hate rich people in general, anyone in the "high class" as opposed to the "middle class". I hate what money does to people, it has a direct effect on their feelings and moral values. I also have a grudge against the people in poverty. Why? Because I feel they haven't done enough with their lives to get as far as they really could. There are pleny of now-rich famous people who grew up in slums, they're proof that anyone can do what they want in a democracy, and if someone in poverty or "low class" in a democracy, then I do believe they are not trying hard enough. Now, obviously not all poverty-stricken people haven tried to "shoot for the stars" so to speak, but msot of them could. I understand the fact that some people were once rich but then for example got very ill and eventually ended up losing their home and such. I feel sorry for them. Maybe if people weren't allowed to whatever they wanted in these stupid democracies - they could get somewhere in life. In communist governments everyone is equal. They are not allowed to become rich bastards, and they rarely are allowed to bail out and become homeless. Look at China, despite the fact of their population - they're a communist government and they have one of the best economies on the face of the earth. If China was a democratic government, they'd probably have one of the most damned economies around just like the America un behalf of Bush - another example of how money can make your values become worse. In governments where there is extreme diversity and large populations, communist governments usuall do prevail best. Democracy is for the big guys, the corporate business owners; not the decent people of the world.

Do you even have a clue what you’re attempting to talk about?

If a culture of anarchy were to prevail, there would be no structured education.

I guess you didn’t think about such things, did you? You talk about people being closed minded, perhaps you should take a look in the mirror.

but most of us anarchists know

Fight the power from the comfort of your PC brother!!!!!

Perfect.

Though I'm happy to live in democracy because I'm a greedy bastard and I know I'll be able to exploit it.

But anyway, I believe the "best" government to be a Dictatorship. I mean for the reasons barb says, communism is great, but in practice it always goes wrong. I know most people would have negative ideas associated with dictatorships, but really if you had a good educated leader who provided for everyone in the community and made sure everything ran well then it could work out. The problem with democracy is that power is given to the individuals who cannot possibly know whats best for the country, in general they are uneducated in the issues they are voting on. Having an educated leader, or experts on the issues to make the decisions would work much better. It would also avoid the problem of the peoples votes beign affected by propoganda. Fact is, the leader knows whats best for you. People are idiots and you need someone smart in power to keep things working right. Plus you need iron-fist justice to stop people from becoming greedy. It's common sense people. The decisions need to be made by experts in that area, who are actually educated on the issue. Whatever you do dont give the power to the mis-educated populous!!

I apologise – I credited you with more intelligence than you previous post in this thread should warrant.

FACT – if “anarchy” was the prevalent societal norm, nothing would ever be produced, other than in an individualistic capacity.

FACT – If in the past people had engaged upon a truly anarchistic way of life – their would never have been any form of co-operation amongst individuals.

FACT – If anarchy ruled in the past, the computer would never have been invented.

FACT – If the computer had never been invented, you wouldn’t have had the opportunity to vomit all over the keyboard with such incessant, ill informed bullsh!t.

Let me ask a simple question:

Are you a teenager, who lives in a nice warm house, with a nice PC? If anarchy was prevalent you most definitely wouldn’t enjoy such luxuries.

If there were no government nothing would stop us from studying as we already do; it would just be our own choice if we wanted to go to school or work. Everything we currently do, we can do without the government's help. Wise up, man.

If you don’t understand by now, I truly pity you.

BTW, you never answered my question:

Do you want marshy mellows in your bedtime chocky-wocky?
