nlitement
Almost everyone who's approx. my age thinks coding means: Having WYWIWYG websites, writing web xml-languages (xhtml, html) and coding in VB (I wouldn't count it as a language, since most coders hate it, it's just too simple and you can't really create as flexible/lower-level programs as in C/Java/Pascal/asm). Desktop: Delphi and C++ (going to learn after I got my Delphi skills good and ready). Web: PHP (haven't done any for 1 month though , have to fresh up with that one too). Web-design: XHTML 1.0 and CSS. @System_Shutdown: "Whoa!" and nothing is code affiliated. To remind you: HTML or any web-design language is not concidered programming, it's just a markup-language, it's rendered not executed. Svip
NEWS FLASH PEOPLE! I'm late! And, ages doesn't matter on the Internet. ¬¬ I'm tired of the; "OMG you're 12 you can't program. lolololo" I know a guy who is 14, whom have build his own machine ( not bought stuff, made most of the hardware by hand ), rewriting his PS2 OS and erm... codes lots in Assembly. Point: I don't care what age you are, what depends is how long you have been into computers. Sadly, I started 2 years ago, so I might 18, but still people younger than me knows a lot more than I. Oh, and that bump was really retarded. And HTML is not an XML-language. ¬¬ HTML is a markup language. So is XML and XHTML, but XHTML is based on HTML and XML. I can remember the following types of languages: Markup languages - no programming, just used for display and such. Database languages - somewhat programming, but most a system to grab and insert data into a database, also to control it, and what have you. Programming languages - these there exist a lot of subversion of, but I can't be arsed to mention them. But we are talking something like, class languages, exortic languages, etc.

Luke
Bump. I'm 15 right now. And in the same sh*tty situation alot of you were (no computer, awmish family, bah bah.), and I think I should start learning now. Help, pees? Well, I'm 15 now (note the last post in here was so long ago that I was 14 back then). Anyway, to the point, I'd begun with BASIC on a ye olde laptop (like, very old), then QBASIC on a friend of the family's computer, then VB5 when I nicked off with it from my dad's office's systems department. Now I kind of regret learning Visual Basic before C++, it does have a little bit of a habbit of screwing up your visions of how computers work. Not impossible though, I'm using C++ more and more now, far from what you'd call a pro, but I do use it at least now. Assembly's another thing I've got into just through GTA modding really, nice challenge, confusing as f*ck at first. Anyway, if you're going to start out, I don't know where you would want to start. The simpler things like PHP might be a good place (not strictly programming in a normal sense), or you could try start with C++ or something. Problem is, it'll probably confuse the f*ck outta ya. adam broke it.
magical_trevor
I started trying to learn c++ about 6 months ago, just using online tutorials, and within a week, I'd given up, because it was too hard. I think the problem was down to me skipping between different websites using different syntax and for users of different abilities.. However just before the Summer Holidays this year, I got a book on c++, and since reading (and re-reading) that, I'm starting to pick it up, and feel as though my basic knowledge is enough for me to start building more advanced techniques onto.. So I would recommend doing that if you want to learn.. I'm 16, and until a few months ago, I had no programming knowledge whatsoever. I guess it's never too late
