How do you create your terrain sh*t? I'm building my entire city on a big mountain and it's working allright but now it's one big block which I will have to split up BEFORE I finish, otherwise it'll be alot of work. And I need a texturer.

k-nife size ... the plan is for it to take up the whole of vice city just now id say im nearly half way through that. but lots of the files are pre betas there will be a

release soon ....watch this space, folks ,as im buying a dvd soon ill be getting san andreas so ill be modding for that aswell . But first things first

done yet ,if you want ill try and get it ingame that would mean ive got 14-15 building now send it to me at my msn if you want

 

teun.steenbekkers- terrain---mm first of i do me road then i just

sculpt it around the road

sorry i cant be more explicit here's a picture of the last bit ive done

try do a grid to fit in the spce you want. then pull the sections up or down to get a land shape required hope this helps

small update today not much been having a wee prob with generic odjects

 

thats in the generic ide

sometimes they appear unshaded -no shadow

sometimes they dont appear, but there there and so is there shadow?

i think its because ive got thenm i different (ipl)s and havent put then into

the same corrosponding (ide)s

 

its not major ill get me head round it

The generic objects don't need to be in any other IDE files. Just the generic.ide...

 

It might be their placement? You have them on the grass, when they should be on the pavement (you do edit the .cols into grass, beton, etc, don't you?)...

 

I don't know, just a thought.

 

I should get working on that main.scm! I haven't done anything for weeks! wow.gif

im still here ,working on the mod guys just incase anyone thought, id split

the scene .... (nope). less to show these days ,as im working on the files now

plus i dont want to show all the map sections yet . heres some piccies

That's probably why. I don't add anything to the generic FOLDER. When I need a streetlight added, I just put it in the map folder of where it's placed (does that make sense?).

 

IE - you create a map section (let's say you call it "New Island") and create a folder called "New Island," where you add the IDE and IPL and COL files. When I want to add a streetlight to this new piece of land, I'll add the streetlight line to the New Island.ipl, not anywhere else...

 

That's probably your problem. But again, I'm not 100% sure.

 

If you can't get it solved, when you send me the files I'll do my best to help sort this out.

This is developing into a very serious modification, great work. Any chance of some wireframe shots for a change? A shot of the entire landscape from MooMapper would help give an idea of the scale this has grown to. Amazing that you are getting all of this done, with lots of screenshots and topic updates, pretty much by yourself.

 

(EDIT) Perhaps you would consider working on Curveshire somewhen in 2006, after I have gotten my business sorted out and can dedicate some time to it again?

ive actually changed how i model now, im more into building grids and deforming them now... to start off i was just randomely joining

everything together as you can see in the middle of this first section ive also been doing contour work . ill post some screenies later

oh--Vercetti Gangsta- well spotted photoshop effect yeh added the

RENDER lense flare effect

 

kurropt maybe thats where im going wrong ill just have 1 file for all the streetlights ...at preasant there all in the corrosponding files for the area there in ill just transfer them all into 1 file see if that helps sweet thats what i get for trying to be clever

When I did the first street lighting for Myriad Islands I added the street lights at the end of the IPL for the area they were being placed in. Harbour bouys for Diesel's Junkyard were placed in the IPL where his warehouses and roads were placed. I positioned all those items manually by running around with PlayerPos making lists of co-ordinates between the junctions (which I had lettered) so I could split the lights into the correct IPL files easily. I think I added about 600 objects across several IPL files in total. Took several days of solid work...quite a chore when I look back on it!

 

That's a very tidy mesh; from the quality of the texturing in the recent shots I figured your style had matured a lot since the start of the project. The only problem with using quads for your design is that you can end up with very boring, square designs where all the corners are 90 degrees and all the hills have straight sides. Looks like you are avoiding that with the new contour model and I can see some roads taking more natural routes, so it's looking excellent.

 

Just for you, I dug up the development thread for Curveshire.

 

One thing I cannot understand is why

you keep splitting your sentences into new

lines like this? Just type messages as

though you were typing into MS Word and people's

web browsers will wrap the text to fit the

page. It's not like NotePad! And

because you split your lines at different lengths, it

makes what you are saying difficult to follow.

Oh, and new paragraphs are easier to see

when there is a blank line between them. You

probably didn't notice this was part of the

second paragraph, did you? wink.gif
