Who wants a 2 GB account for Gmail?

Recommended Posts

Google have been biding their time for long enough, in my opinion; they were already the kings of the search engine market and I guess email was a natural progression for them. To be honest I don't mind if the Email Wars are starting to get out of hand - it can only be a good thing for consumers. 2GB of storage space for free? I'd be hard-pushed to find anyone who complained about that. smile.gif

That's what most people are using it for right now - Hey, a gig of storage is a gig of storage, regardless of what's kept there, right? colgate.gif

I certainly haven't seen anything in the Terms and Conditions that prohibit the storage of personal files on Gmail, but that might change when (if?) it goes live and public...

As long as less than 0.1% of their users actually manage to use up the 2GB, Google will have no problem continuing to theoretically give their users more space. If every one of their users used 1GB of space, that would be a big problem, but they don't. So Google might as well give everyone 2TB, but since noone will ever use that they won't know that it's a bluff.

For me.. You are currently using 17 MB (1%) of your 2051 MB.

smile.gif Google taking over the world.

Google seem to like the time around april fools day. I remember when gmail were first announced, it was seen as an april fools day prank back then, because that is when it was released.... and now they released the 2GB version on the same day a year later.

It gets gmail more noticed i suppose smile.gif

Well, if we agree that up to 1 to 2 billion people uses the internet.

Then about 1,5 billion has/wants an email.

That would make 1,5 billion email addresses, not counting people who has more than one.

Most of these people has been manipulated by Microsoft's propaganda, and uses Hotmail and MSN. Some uses other long term addresses such as yahoo and that like.

And a lot keeps the one they have for their site; [email protected]

That would make about 50 million people left to be interrested in something new and different, or maybe less.

And since gmail is about invites and so forth, only about 5 million people will currently get in.

That means Google needs about 5 million multiplyed with 2GB.

Which is 10 million GB, or 10000 TB.

Quite a large thing, but think about all the rooms they got for such.

It's not really that much when you think about it, a bit for your harddisk though.

I have a g-mail account, right, and I thought 2GB For free was very good..although i think they'll take it down in time, for the amount of requests they get.

a bit off topic but i've an old 98 machine and that's only got 2/half gig hd.

I have 50 invites BUT its the first 5 people I'm giving them away to, only five so pm fast(PM: your current email and why you want it)...

They upgraded it from 1GB to 2GB because the email service has been up for over a year... Pretty good
