[REL] GTAForums Table Code Generator

Quick question. Is the 1.3 version a full version, or do I have to download the first one and then apply the 1.3 version to it? Very good program by the looks of it. I use a lot of tables here on the forums so this is VERY helpful for me.

It's a full version.

Yeah, the v1.3.1 is the same as v1.2 except it includes some tag insertion options. I am still working on a new version of this, although it will be basically the same thing but better coded and hopefully less slow (it can get pretty slugish if you're managing a huge table).

I'm currently trying to solve a problem which is also present in the current version - if you resize a column / row whilst the scrollbars are active, sometimes the 'top-left' position of the table becomes offset, allowing you to scroll past the left and upper boundaries of the table. It's really not a big problem in the current version but it does mess up the column / rows resizers in the new one confused.gif

Thanks. This is much helpful to me as I use a few tables that regularly update. There aren't too big but this will certainly cut down on the time it takes. I almost thought that it didn't have a feature for the [th] tags but then I saw about the highlight. wink.gif

EDIT: I just had an idea. Not sure if it was mentioned before. It would be good if you could put already existing table's code in, and then it was make it and you could edit it. If there is a way or it's already been mentioned then just disregard this.

Well, Version 2, three weeks in the making, is finally finished! It has been written entirely from scratch and a few new features that were missing in the previous version have been added. Some of these are described below.

Multiple Cell Selection

You can now select more than one cell at a time. Hold the CTRL key down to select multiple cells or hold the SHIFT key down to select a region between one cell and the currently selected cell. You can also combine the CTRL and SHIFT key to make complex selections. Take note that whenever multiple cells are selected, operations will affect all of the selected cells. For example, if two cells in different columns are selected, and you click the 'Delete Column' option, both of the columns will be deleted. The same goes for the highlight and resize column / row options.

Import Table Code

As suggested by Chalkstar, you can now import existing table code. This is far from perfect but it should work for most tables already posted on the forum. The limitations of this feature are explained briefly in the Import Code dialog (accessible from the File menu), but I'll explain them in more detail if need be.

The rest of the changes are either very minor or fairly self explanatory. If you have any questions about the new version, or find any errors or problems, be sure to post them here smile.gif

Downloads

Version 2.0 (37KB, ZIP)

Source Code (88KB, ZIP)

Barguast your a hero smile.gif, I've been waiting for this as I started something, lost the file and can't get it back. Now I can just copy and paste the code into the program and save smile.gif.

Multiple cell selection sounds useful.

Are the bugs fixed, because my computer keeps crashing sad.gif, and taking forever to load a program while it is running, it keeps disconnecting it, and making the fonts large.

Thanks for this genious invention smile.gif

Thanks to eggburt for informing me about the corrupt download files - I've re-uploaded most of them so they should now work. I've lost the older (pre-v2) versions of the program in the process but that isn't really such a big loss. Thanks also to STM for his incredibly sexy file uploader-er.

Sorry if it seems like I've been ignoring this topic - to be honest I had completely forgotten about it until now... blush.gif

Again, thanks for all your comments.

@Roald - Yeah, you're free to use it. A bit late responding, I know tounge.gif

I really like the improvements you've made since v1. Mostly the importing code and inserting rows.

A few suggestions:

* Make it more WYSIWYG. So instead of seeing the font style code (bold, color, size, so on) in the main window, have it display as it will be when posted on the board.

* Add a text search (maybe even a search&replace) feature. This program can help me out a great deal with the SnP stats table, but it's an even bigger pain to have to manually search for someone that was perviously added so I can update their row.

* Add support for [table>] (ignore the >)which is a table without borders. Example:

this is a tabe
without borders
Hello just

more

crap

to

add

* Add support for table within a table. Example:

this is a table

within a table

* Add support for the center tag. Example:

this is a table

within a table

All of these will help me and Rex out when updating the SNP stats tables

* Add a text search (maybe even a search&replace) feature. This program can help me out a great deal with the SnP stats table, but it's an even bigger pain to have to manually search for someone that was perviously added so I can update their row.

I just wanted to emphasize this point. This, alone, is the reason I don't use this program to update SnP. This would immensley help out and cut down on time.

On a side note. If you need another mirror let me know.

@wolf - I'm still very much a beginner to C# so I doubt I'd be able to implement some of those features to be honest. I've been too busy with work to consider making a new version, but if I get time I'll try to at least add the WYSIWYG and Search & Replace features. The text alignment can be done manually but, again, it wouldn't be too difficult to implement so I'll try and get that done too - when I get time.

By the way, the current version already supports borderless tables - you just have to untick the 'Show Borders' checkbox in the Generate Code dialog. wink.gif

@Tornado Rex - If you want to upload the program, source, and example table somewhere more reliable then I'd be very grateful. I've had to re-upload the files at least five times since I first posted this. tounge.gif

I just thought of something I forgot to mention....I'm getting old

You want want to add a Help menu or atleast About to click on to give yourself credit for creating this and if possible put a link to here as to where to get it.

The link might sound reduntant, but before I finally found v2 I tried for a while to remember and then forum search for this topic and the program again to see if it had been updated but mostly for the giving the suggestions.

I completely understand about work and what not, RL comes first, and you're doing this because you want to and not for money.

I wasn't in a rush or anything, I was just making the suggestions is all.

I can't get it working.

'An error occured while windows installer was initialising. Setup will now close.'

Thats the message I get when opening dotnetfx.

Then when I open the binary table code generator I get this:

The application failed to intialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Help?

You bitch. cryani.gif I've been working on a program to do this.

O' well, guess thats a project I can score off my to-do-list. cool.gif

Well done Barguast, Program looks cool from the screenshots, I am jsut going to downlaod it and have a look.

nice work, cookie.gif

EDIT: Just been having a ply about with it. Looks very professional. Well done. Is it VB you wrote it in?

The application failed to intialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

That error message is occurring because the .NET framework isn't installed.

What version of Windows are you using? If you're not using XP then you might have to update the Windows Installer which can be found here. Running Windows Update might help also. If you continue to have trouble after following those steps then you could try downloading the .NET 2.0 Framework Beta from here and see if you have any luck installing that instead.

@ozzysm12 - The program is far from perfect and if you feel like having a go at your own version then be my guest. Fact is that I'm far too busy with work these days to make any improvements or updates to this and I can't see my workload reducing anytime soon. sad.gif

EDIT: The program is written entirely in C#.

I have never really got my program off the gound. I have about 10 differnet projects sitting and on top of that have stuff like my Grand Tour and that. I am the same as you, too busy with other crap to get time to do anything.

Why not work with him to make some improvements and added features?

You can get the source code to work from.

Can you make one for mac? ~M$&9$~

I can't, no. As I said in the first post, it is programmed in C# which makes heavy use of the Microsoft .NET Framework. I would be tempted to attempt a rewrite in Java, but I'm simply too busy for things like this these days. sad.gif
