Liberty City Get-To Guide

Well, since many people are too lazy to go out to their nearest video game store and purchase a cheating device, simply for the use of teleporting to Liberty City via Zip or Binco, I've decided to write a guide for us 'non-cheat-device-people' on how to make it there using only four, maybe five button codes. Now you can brag to your friends that you made it back to Liberty City! biggrin.gif

Liberty City: A large portion of Portland, one of the islands in Liberty City from GTAIII, was put into San Andreas for use in only one mission, Saint Marks Bistro. Originally, however, there was another mission you were to do in Liberty City. In the cut-out mission, you were on the back of a (?) Sanchez chasing after a mafia crime leader. You were chasing the mafia mob boss throughout some of the streets of Liberty City, but like some things, it was not meant to be. Rockstar deleted this mission from the game, unfortunately, but it left what parts of Liberty City they had finished. Since you weren't controlling the Sanchez, they needn't require that the buildings were solid. They cut the mission out before they finished making all of what they were intended to be put into the mission solid, so most of it is just textures, and you are not able to walk upon it. There is one major difference in the Liberty City from GTAIII and the Liberty City portion in San Andreas - the presence of snow. Since the game is intended to take place in January (note the calendar in your garage, you'll hear more about that later), winter is in full effect in Liberty City.

Cheats Required To Get To Liberty City: Getting to Liberty City requires only four cheats, five if you aren't far enough into the game. These are the codes:

PS2 CHEATS

Spawn Jetpack

updownleftrightL1L2R1R2updownleftrightL1L2R1R2

Cars Float When Hit

PC CHEATS

Spawn Jetpack

Type YECGAA

Cars Float When Hit

Type BSXSGGC

Cars Fly

Type RIPAZHA

Jump Higher

Type LFGMHAL

If you haven't obtained your pilots license, and therefore don't get a parachute when jumping from an aircraft, you'll need the Spawn Parachute cheat as well.

Spawn Parachute (PS2)

Spawn Parachute (XBOX)

Left, Right, Left Trigger, White Button, Right Trigger, Black Button, Black Button, Up, Down, Right, Left Trigger

Spawn Parachute (PC)

Type AIYPWZQP

Packing Before Departure: Before you go on your trip to Liberty City, you'll need two vehicles in your Doherty Garage. The most useful setup is:

Quadbike x1

Maverick x1

There you go! The Maverick can be found on the roof of the Hospital in San Fierro, and the Quadbike can either be spawned with this code or found in the countryside at the location ThaddeusMcKlown so nicely provided:

Spawn Quadbike (PC)

Type AKJJYGLC

Now you're ready to go to Liberty City! One last thing to pack: a camera! You're gonna want to document your legendary trip!

Method of Getting There: To get to Liberty City you need to fly there via the interior universe (or take the second, much shorter method I'll list after this). Firstly, go to the Ganton Gym in Los Santos. Enter, and kill everyone inside. While still inside, spawn the jetpack and walk into the corner of the room by the treadmill. Hold X (Or whatever control is equivalent for the PC and XBOX versions of the game) for a second, until you fly through the ceiling. Land on the roof of the Gym and press pause the game. Zoom in on the map, scroll over to the following place, and set a marker.

user posted image

Using the jetpack you just spawned, fly to that marker. Make sure you do not fly to low, or you will lose the interior and will have to reload your game and try again. While flying, if you see a black box with 'Loading...' flash on the screen even for a millisecond, you've gone too far down.

When you're at the marker you placed on your map, you'll see a yellow arrow floating about, not unlike the ones found at enterable buildings. Approach this arrow from the south, and you'll land on an invisible but solid ground. Release your jetpack and run into the marker to enter the Warehouse. Once inside this pointlessly large and bare room, pause the game again and prepare to set another marker. This time place a marker in the countryside, around here:

user posted image

Pick up your jetpack, or spawn another one. When you entered the warehouse, the jetpack should have appeared in there behind you, for convenience. Anyways, fly to the marker in the countryside. Do not despair! No matter what on the way there you will pass through the 'red zone', where the game will force you under, making the dreaded 'Loading...' screen pop up. You want this to happen. Anyways, once the Loading... screen pops up, you'll hit a barrier, so you'll have to fly sideways (by holding whatever buttons are the 'look sideways' buttons)

As you approach the marker a crane similar to the Import/Export crane will float into view. Following the crane will be what seems to be a snake, but will materialise into the rail tunnel. Soon you will be flying over a portion of San Fierro, the area around the Doherty Garage. Make sure you don't fly over the invisible Easter Basin Naval Base, as you will get a five-star wanted level if you do. Note that peds spawn on the streets of the San Fierro chunk, and cops will too if you get that five stars. If you neglected to grab the camera from your house or wherever, there is a camera spawn inside the rail station, in the corner. This is your last chance. Once you have (or have not) grabbed the camera, go check out the Doherty Garage. You'll notice that the garage doors to the building don't seem to be there, and you can see the interior of the garage!!! You can get in by walking through the second garage door, but the camera will switch to an odd angle. Whip out a sniper rifle, or your camera, and look around. If you go inside the office you'll see that calendar I was talking about earlier, which has the month of January on it. Anyways, back to getting to LC...

Go over to your garage, and wait for the door to open. You will notice that the vehicles you previously stored in your garage do not seem to be there, but they are. They're just invisible. To know where they are, throw some Satchel Charges around, and they'll stick to the vehicles. Just make sure you don't detonate them by accident! If you haven't entered the Cars Float When Hit and the Cars Fly cheats, do so now. Hop onto one vehicle (if you're using my setup of a Maverick and a Quadbike, get on the quadbike) and gently nudge the second vehicle (the maverick). Then hop from vehicle one into vehicle two and pilot it out of your garage. Switch to first person view as soon as possible - it's easier. Now, fly towards this marker:

user posted image

You'll notice as you reach the outskirts of the two fields that you'll hit an invisible barrier. Once you do, you can't get past it, so fly upwards for about fourty-five seconds. After you've flown upwards, jump from the vehicle and open your parachute as soon as you can. Hold down and start drifting towards the marker you put. Once you get over the marker, enter the Jetpack Cheat and only then cut your chute. Hold square (or the XBOX and PC equivalent) to go down faster, and after a few minutes Liberty City will start materialising. Welcome to Liberty City!

Digimetal adds this (I reworded it a bit smile.gif):

To get to the front of Saint Marks Bistro, enable the super jump cheat then hop over the wall to the right of the locked car (that is, if you're doing the mission). Turn right and walk 'till you see a hallway on the right..... go there you see a dead end. make a few steps back and run & jump. You would be in the front of Saints Marks Bistro!

Note: If you miss Saint Marks Bistro and hit a non-solid area, you're screwed and you have to try again.

Method 2: If you've beaten Zero's RC Missions, there's a much faster way to get to the Doherty garage. Start the Beefy Baron mission (to start it step in the red circle in the back of Zero's shop) and once you have control of the plane, fly due west, over the water. Once time runs out, and the screen switches back to Carl, he'll be falling through the black air. You'll land near the Doherty garage. I don't know if you can still get to Liberty City this way, if someone could prove or disprove this it would be greatly appreciated.

Exploring The City: As I mentioned, not all of Liberty City is solid. Only a small portion is. So, if you want to see all of Liberty City, you'll have to either wait to see if an Infinite Height button cheat comes out, or haul your ass over to a Radioshack or something tounge.gif

Here's what's solid:

The road in front of Saint Marks Bistro is solid. Most of it is, anyways. If you follow the road around and up the hill, it stops being solid after the four way crossing. Nothing to either side of it is solid, so you'll have to stick to the road. If you go the other way on the road, it goes for a little bit before stopping. If landed on the roof and went onto the road, turn on the Jump Higher cheat so you can jump over the wall into the courtyard. You can still go inside Saint Marks Bistro, nothing has changed, and it still plays the music. The solid parts around the courtyard are:

The courtyard itself (duh), and if you hop over the wall to the right in that little alcove, by standing on the highest bit of snow, the alleyway is solid too.

How To Tell What's Solid: If you want to know how to tell if something is solid, there's two easy methods. The first method is the gun method. Take any bullet-firing weapon (i.e. the Handgun or the AK47) and fire at the ground in front of you using manual aim. If sparks shoot from the ground, the area is solid. If not, you can't walk there without falling through. The second, and more dangerous, method, is the grenade method. Throw a grenade, and see if it hits the ground and explodes. If it falls through, the area either is not solid, or it was a glitch. If the grenade falls though, throw it again just to be sure. It's happened to me a couple of times. tounge.gif

Sights To See: When exploring Liberty City, you'll notice that it looks nearly identical to the Liberty City from GTAIII. One thing to note is the funny sign in the parking lot of Saint Marks Bistro. "Saint Marks Bistro - Eat 'Till You Explode!" the sign reads. If you've played GTAIII, you'll remember the mission "Mike Lips' Last Lunch", where you steal a mafia gangster's car from the parking lot of Saint Marks Bistro, rig it with a bomb, and return it. After he finishes his lunch, he gets in his car and BOOM! lol.gif Very amusing.

Have fun exploring Liberty City, and if there's something you'd like to add or point out, PM me or post here wink.gif

Also, if you use a boat instead of a Maverick, you can fly gracefully about Liberty City (as seen in Ribbit's amazing video, link below), and see all the sights.

Ways There If You Have A Cheat Device:

Since I'm sure some of you have cheat devices, I'll add the cheat device codes on how to teleport.

EDIT: April 24- Woohoo! Thanks to EnforcA, there's now a video! Cookies to him! cookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gif You can view the video on Page 4, because for some reason it won't let me post the video link here 0.o

EDIT: April 28- swoish has found a way to explore LC fully !

I did this a while ago, but found a way to actually fly around the city. Everything you said is exactly what I did up to where you reach the invisible barrier. At that point, you should just keep flying directly into the barrier. After a while, you will ne forced backwards. If you haven't marked your vehicle with satchels, you can tell because the camera will swivel around to face the direction you are going (backwards). Now, since the vehicle is stuck going bakwards, you can turn it around and it will fly towards, and into Liberty City. Again, if you haven't marked with satchels, use the white arrow in the radar to tell which way you are facing, and faace away from LC (or your red marker if you marked it). The controls are difficult at first, since everything is reversed, but once you get into the city and have a point of reference, it's much easier to fly this way.

There's also the Vice Stadium just to the south and at almost the same height. For some reason, this works better if you start at the stadium, which also has an invisible barrier. You can fly around both the stadium and Liberty City, but you have to remember that you are flying backwards. If you hold L2 and R2 for a rear view, it's much easier.

Now you can easily explore all of LC without a cheat device

EDIT: June 26- Ribbit has an amazing-ass vid!

Trip To Liberty City. This is truly superb. Check it out!

Yay!!!

EDIT: June 30- XBOX & PC cheats added to the guide

EDIT: August 21- Method 2 of getting to the Doherty garage added

Due thanks to the following:

Edisoncarter (for finding most of the above listed cheats)

ThaddeusMcKlown (for providing the location of the Quad)

EnforcA (for providing a video, for those who are confused wink.gif)

Mxyzptlk & CubanJetMax (for suggesting the Satchel Charge trick)

There is no code that allows you to spawn a Maverick, but you should be able to pick one up at Easter Bay Airport easily enough.

You can't spawn mavericks... the maverick is the helicopter... blink.gif

On another note... could the mods maybe add this to the Guides & Walkthroughs thing... it's a pretty useful guide, if I do say so myself cool.gif

hmmmm..... sorry but theres a mistake..... as i read the guide

Quote: Make sure you try to land on top of Saint Marks Bistro (not in the courtyard, but on top of the building itself). This way, you can explore more of Liberty City (if you land in the courtyard, you can't access the area in front of Saint Marks Bistro). Welcome to Liberty City!

You can get back to the front of Saint Marks Bistro. All you have to do is enable the super jump cheat then hop over the wall on the right of the locked car. turn right walk till you see a hallway on the right..... go there you see a dead end. make a few steps back and run & jump. Nice rah.gif

But why the cars fly cheat, when your using maverick and the float trick?

I once tried to get there with cars fly and went spinning out of control, ended up in bayside. Then I decided to not use cars fly and just let it float up(car) for 15 minutes then bailed and I reached LC by parachute. Only just fell next to solid, and that pissed me of so much I never tried it again.

NSX, I added the Cars Fly cheat, because some people can't be bothered to put a Maverick in their garage, only normal vehicles. wink.gif

Good guide , Not as good as mine ,but pretty damn good.

Yeah, but mine's a bit more in-depth... you only told people how to get there. I told people exactly how to get there, and what to see. I also said what's solid, and I provided images each step of the way biggrin.gif

Well sorry to say it, but yours is pretty damn good, and Ben's is just the best, much more in depth. But hey, you had the first guide, so don't feel to bad. I can understand you want to profit from this topic, but your guide had it's best time. Ben Fleming draws the cards now.

Now, BritishGangsta, I've noticed that your little guide was updated not a minute after you posted your rather pointless post. It now closely resembles mine. I suggest that you change it, because piracy will not be tolerated. I have alerted Barguast to this problem, and it will be dealt with. die2.gif

If you've played GTAIII, you'll remember the mission Lips' Last Lunch, where you steal a mafia gangster's car from the parking lot of Saint Marks Bistro, rig it with a bomb, and return it. After he finishes his lunch, he gets in his car and BOOM! lol.gif Very amusing.

Have fun exploring Liberty City, and if there's something you'd like to add or point out, PM me or post here wink.gif

Another way, easier but not tested yet, is when doing that mission when going to Liberty city is to place a marker where the corna is, red circle. Rumour has it the red the circle is there even after the mission is completed, I started a new game to try it out, just ten missions away. Second when at place in Liberty during the mission it won't let you go over the wall I tried to fly, super jump, and so on to get over, and a barrier stops you from getting over. Is this barrier gone when you use your trick of getting there?

Can the Hydra spawn beused instead of the Maverick?

Anyway I try your trick, It sounds cool.

Oh about that comment about people being to lazy to get a cheat device. Its not that there lazy its they rather play the game properly without cheating to prove their skill, NOTE: I'm not saying cheating is wrong, It's my favorate part.

pause the game again and prepare to set another marker. This time place a marker in the countryside, around here:

Pick up your jetpack, or spawn another one. When you entered the warehouse, the jetpack should have appeared in there behind you, for convenience. Anyways, fly to the marker in the countryside. Do not despair! No matter what on the way there you will pass through the 'red zone', where the game will force you under, making the dreaded 'Loading...' screen pop up. You want this to happen. Anyways, once the Loading... screen pops up, you'll hit a barrier, so you'll have to fly sideways (by holding L2            or R2            )

Hold square            to go down faster, and after a few minutes Liberty City will start materialising. Welcome to Liberty City!

Digimetal adds this (I reworded it a bit smile.gif):

I think a lot of this guide was unnecessary like this. You don't need to go to the crane or whatever in the country side or anything like that.

The only cheat you need is the Jetpack cheat not the quad. cars fly, parachute, etc... You don't need to be "packing for departure" because that is not needed to go to Liberty City. THis shouldn't be an official guide at all because ther is already a Pinned Topic on Hidden Interiors and going to Liberty City Via Ganton Gym and since it is pinned I think that one is official. You should of posted there. I'm probably wrong but maybe you are posting just for the sake of bragging in your signature.

Here is a video created by edisoncarter that starts from the outside of the Ganton Gym and shows you step by step how to go to Liberty City. The Video

More videos are at his site, a few more Liberty City exploring videos and cheats.
