Moto
Title: Guild Wars Developer: Arena Net Publisher: NCsoft Genre: Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) Release Date: April 28th, 2005 Website: http://www.guildwars.com Price: $49.99, no monthly fees Guild Wars takes the best elements of today's massively multiplayer online games and combines them with a new mission-based design that eliminates the tedium of those games. You can meet new friends in towns or outposts, form a party, and then go tackle a quest together. Your party always has its own unique copy of the quest map, so camping, kill-stealing, and long lines to complete quests are all things of the past. Within a quest you have unprecedented freedom and power to manipulate the world around you: your magic can build bridges and open up new pathways, or it can burn down forests and tear the ground asunder. You don't have to spend countless hours on a leveling treadmill to get to the interesting parts of the game, because combat is designed to be strategically interesting and challenging right from the beginning. You don't have to spend hours running around the world to prepare for a quest, because Guild Wars allows you to instantly travel to the beginning of any quest that you've previously unlocked. You'll never spend days playing only to discover that choices you made early on have left you with a permanently uncompetitive character, because the unique skill system in Guild Wars allows infinite experimentation but doesn't allow bad decisions to ruin a character. And you'll never meet new players only to discover that you can't play with them or compete against them because their characters are on a different server than yours; in Guild Wars, all characters live in one seamless world. Built for Competition After learning the game and building up your first character, you may choose to test your skills in head-to-head competition or guild warfare. The game is designed to reward player skill and teamwork, not time spent playing, so you won't need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your character to compete. The game includes integrated support for guilds, with guild banners and halls, chat rooms and forums. Guilds can challenge other guilds to battle, compete for control of key parts of the world, and be ranked on a worldwide ladder. Unique Streaming Technology ArenaNet's unique streaming technology forever eliminates the concept of patching a game. You don't have to wait a month for the next big patch to experience new content. Instead, the game constantly and intelligently streams new content to your computer in the background while you play. The world can change continually. This allows us to build a much more dynamic game world than any that has existed before. Screenshots Is anyone here participating in this weekends Beta Weekend Event? If so, leave your name here and we can party up.
Grandal.
Not much interest in Guild Wars it seems....very surprising considering this is easily the best game i have played plus it has no monthly fees to play . I have played every beta weekend since the WPE and i am a Alpha tester so i have been playing everyday for the past 3 months . The next event is the 15th of this month and release on the 28th, i think it would be great to get a group of gta forum members together and actually compete in the excellent PvP GW offers. Next time you are in game moto, add me to your friends list and we can hook up for a bit of killin'. My in-game names are Dark Dragul Double D Two D p.s. Yeah, i know this is a old topic but theres no difference in me posting here than making a new one except this one looks better .

Grandal.
Hooray, I'm glad someone bumped it I actually had a friends pass to the weekend of this posts BWE...I'm sure I'd be able to get it again for this weeks BWE As it is now, you will need to get a different friends pass as it is for pre-orders only and friend passes are only good for one event. Most all of the GW forums have topics with people giving away passes that you could probably check out...VN Boards being the best bet i would think. TheUtero
Hey I was thinking about getting this game but I'm not sure if my computer will be able to handle it well enough to play it without lag and all that sh*t. For those of you who have played the beta, could you tell me if it lags at all for you and what kind of computer you have? Are the graphics pretty high tech n sh*t? A comparison to Half-Life 2 would also be nice. Thanks.

The Laughing Man
I will be getting that game ASAP. All my friends from school are going to get it and we're going to make a group together. Plus no monthly fees. I hate having to pay to get the game and then pay to play the game. To me its total bullsh*t.

ViceDog
My internet connection isn't the problem in this case, it's the Graphics Card. Gotta change my 9200.. Game looks good, seeing as teh scores are high, might get it, but i doubt it.
BrassKnuckles
Sorry for the bump, but...wait. I'm not sorry. THe last computer game I bought was, like, "Mafia," so as you can tell I've been out of the loop somewhat. Then yesterday, I figured I should get a copy of this game, because it sounded alright. I really enjoy it--the graphics, the scope, the fighting moves, they're all real cool. Being a plot fanatic, I was disappointed at the typical "invaders from the north!" storyline, but meh. Anyway, my name is Samson Yonkers Lvl 8 Warrior/Monk so y'all should look me up. PS: Grandal and Moto playing the same game? It must be good! rar paitn ^^

Svip
Meh, I'm just waiting for Dark 'n Light, pity I have to wait for November though. EDIT: I just realized I couldn't make a simple ass post like that, well, I've heard good things about Guild Wars, but I ain't going to try it myself though, the screenshots looks neat, but never fall for screenshots, that's my opinion. ViceDog
Sorry For the.. erhm... 2 month old bump. But seeing as there allready was a topic for Guild Wars, i didn't feel the need to start another one. Anyways, i got the game yesterday and i must say it is the best online RPG i have played in a long time, and the helpfullness of most of the players is excellent too. The variety you get when choosing your character is staggering, as i haven't seen a single character look like me, (maybe thats just because im in a different district.. i dont really know) Anywas, thats not what i wanted to talk about, you see, if Moto, and Grandal are still playing this game (and maybe some more people) we could start our own Guild for GTAF. What do you say, we could have the GTAF Logo on the back of the capes Anyways, my sincerest appologies for the bump.
Dublo 7
I don't think I'm going to get it anymore. My mate got to level 20 in a really short amount of time. It just doesnt seem worth it.

TommyAngelo
So no one here would classify this game better then WoW, because I just bought WoW and it cost monthly fees while Guild Wars doesn't.

It just doesnt seem worth it. There's plenty to do no matter what level you are. Also, sorry to bump but this game is too bloody amazing to let the topic die. MyMothersMySister
I own this game on reccomendation from a friend. I bought it the same day I bought Battlefield 2 though and that's just simply dominated. Always under pressure from a couple of mates to start playing it though. Just can't seem to find the time. Tsuroki
From what I've heard, WoW wipes the floor and buttocks of several fat men with the likes of Guild Wars. A buddy of mine got to lvl 20 in a day, and found that there were no quests or any forms of incentive to keep going (unlike WoW).

A buddy of mine got to lvl 20 in a day, and found that there were no quests or any forms of incentive to keep going (unlike WoW). So, he got to level 20 and quit? Did he bother to finish the storyline? Did he bother to join a guild and take part in some PvP? Or create another character with a different profession (each profession changes the gameplay quite a bit)? There's far more to the game then just reaching level 20, it's like deciding not to play GTA:SA because you managed to get your wanted level to six stars. Grandal.
If anyone else is still playing this game, we should definitely get together and start us a GTAF guild. The first expansion is coming out in a couple months with two new classes and lots of added content. My in game name is Dark Dragul, add me if you are interested. Follow up - I've tried WoW, and I've quite frankly grown bored of it. It's a great game if you're into MMORPG's, but I have an unbearably short attention span - I like things fast n' hard - and the whole regular-payment thing just doesn't float my boat. With that said, I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars. A friend of mine plays it, and although you can level up quickly, there's enough replay value to thoroughly enjoy it (afaik). The major problem with WoW and PVP is that there are too many high level players ganking low levels, and it seems impossible to level up and PVP - faster levelling to 20 in GW should, in theory, allow me to get a fuller experience of the game in a shorter amount of time. And like I said, I have very little patience. I may pick up the game soon.
TommyAngelo
IMO, I wouldn't do that Tsuroki, I bought it awhile back and have not touched it, it is way to hard to get into after something like WoW, if you want a new MMORPG I'd try something like Ragnarok( I played it before WoW, and may go back to it soon). Grandal.
I spent the weekend working on my new Ranger/Elementalist...mainly because i want my evolved warthog . He is level 13 at divinity coast right now. It would be fun running the missions with people i kinda know, hate joining pick-up-groups with a bunch of a**hats. I just found out about some unique weapons that were added, think i will try to get some of them next time i log on. Grandal.
I got tired of all the random guild invites i kept getting so i created a guild, the name is cheesy (Clan Unity) but the capes are the sechs . I did quite a few Tombs runs this past weekend and got some nice green weapons. Takes about 2 hours to complete but there is some great loot to be had.
