That's all the more why I figure a possible SA slang word motive in choosing SA as a name--a pun about the ongoing connection with the nature of the game is strong but nothing else seems especially suggested to me, anyway.

Rockstar doesn't make much of a real world connection in it's fictional worlds with actual SA, which they did for NYC with a lot of actual place references and a fictional name for it--LC (the poor Miami Liberty neighborhood notwithstanding; the Statue of Liberty seems more relevant to naming a fictional NYC LC), or Miami with actual place refences (and crack cocaine references, which have continued) and a fictional name for it--VC. SA is mainly meant to call to mind LA, SF, and LV, with lots of actual place references, and similar but fictional names for the the towns. On the other hand actual SA is only referenced, as far as I know, with a couple of actual place references by a few cracks on the sea floor in the latest game. So why else but the pun to pick the actual name of a popularly-known town which is most popularly known for the fault/crack?

It's just a pun, and different places and times have different trends about slang words, and it isn't important, but nothing else comes to mind as a possible motive to pick it. Haven't you heard that slang word before?

Well, GTA1 didn't have any faultlines or references to California that I can think of; and also there is a real place called Liberty City, but in Florida. So it seems GTA: Vice City is the one game with a fictional city name.

The 3D GTA Trilogy are all named after the cities from the orginal Grand Theft Auto; Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. Each of these cities in turn were based on real life cities in America:

  • Liberty City = New York City

Vice City = Miami

San Andreas = San Fransisco

Liberty City came from NYC's most popular landmark: The Statue of Liberty.

Vice City was taken from the title of the popular 70's based cop show: Miami Vice (Which as you may of guessed was set in Miami).

San Andreas is the name of the fault line which passes through California. It was the cause of the Great San Fransisco Quake and so likewise Quake damage can be seen throughout SA.

Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas are all sound-alike versions of Californian Cities:

  • Los Santos = Los Angeles

San Fierro = San Fransisco (Which SA was orginally based on)

Las Venturas = Las Vegas (Which is actually in Neveda, not Cali')

Hope that helps clear things up.

Yeah I think everyone is aware of the basis for the cities from the GTA3 Trilogy; but I don't believe a resemblance to New York, Miami or California were shown in GTA1, from which the GTA3 cities got their names.

Are they any landmarks or buildings in GTA1 that are from NY, Miami or CA?

D Jones suggests the Fishers Lagoon wheelchair is a reference to "Forrest Gump", in which Leiutenant Dan dives into the water and swims to Gump's ship. Anyone with the film care to post a screen capture for comparison?

In reference to crystal ship easter egg

It may be refrence to a Door's cover band in the 80's called Crystal Ship

That's what I have listed in the first post, yep.

In "Forrest Gump," there's a scene where Gump gets excited and dives from his ship to meet Dan, now in a wheelchair and on the shore, after not seeing him for awhile. (Gump's boat, without a pilot, crashes into a dock.) After the two of them have a successful shrimp business, there's a scene where Dan, sitting on a railing of their ship, thanks Gump and drops over the side for a swim. Dan doesn't go directly from the wheelchair to the water, and I can't remember a connection for the times and the "skip here" things.

Maybe it's one of those in-jokes/references about something that happened in the U.K., like one of their artists (nicknamed Skip?) had a broken ankle or such.

Okay, I don't know if this is in the right place, but it seemed stupid to make a whole new topic about it... Well, I don't know if any of you noticed, but when CJ gets a can out of one of the vending machines, he drinks out of it upside down...

Erm, there's my non-interesting fact for the day.

You have it listed as a door's song

I am talking about the cover band that covered The Doors songs.

Which is quite funny, listening to the DJ on KDUST talk about his former band.

Seems to me they are the same band... Axl Rose's former band named for a Doors song that played Doors covers.... I don't think it's important to San Andreas easter eggs list to say what music they played...

This whole Crystal Ship discussion makes my head spin. notify.gif

Anyhow, I think I'm agreeing with Mxy here. Since the band called Crystal Ship exclusively played Doors covers, its name almost certainly came from the Doors song "The Crystal Ship". So, referencing the song in the egg list seems the proper attribution as that's the origination of the phrase in a music context. I don't think the band is the direct reference in SA since Axl Rose (the DJ voice) had nothing to do with the cover band and Tommy "Nightmare" Smith (the DJ character name) is pretty far from name of the real band's founder and singer: Joe Tag. Also, the station dialogue focuses on the 70s rather than the 80s and implies that the DJ's band was a "real" band as opposed to a cover/tribute band.

That said, I do think it is pretty interesting that there was actually a band named that, so if I were the Easter Egg Emperor, I'd probably rewrite the entry something like this:

xxx) Crystal Ship:

Tommy "Nightmare" Smith's (Axl Rose) former 1970's rock band; The Crystal Ship is named after the song by The Doors: The Crystal Ship. The song is the third track on their self titled first album which came out in 1967. I just thought that it was something interesting that i should point out. Thanks to The Soft Parade. Also, qaturn notes that there was an actual Doors cover band named "Crystal Ship."

That pretend quote contains some links relevant to the discussion:

The conspiracy theorists in the topic will enjoy that the song is rumored to have been written in Isla Vista, which is near Santa Barbara, California; that would link to San Andreas being modeled on California, although I doubt that these references reach quite that far. wink.gif

Knowing me, this is probably well-known...but

If you get busted in a car, get a cop car, drive to the LSPD and go underground and you will find the car you was busted in! X)

Ideally yes, but it usually doesn't work, and there are just random vehicles. Not just LSPD by the way, the LV and SF police stations have impound garages too.

You forgot the very import word "maybe" tounge.gif Lots of tests have been done on this, and the car appearing in the impound lot is not at all guaranteed. If you do some searching on "impound" you will see a lot of that discussion.

For what it's worth, the game audio suggests that there was a San Fierro mission involving the impound lot that never made the cut; my assumption is that the impound lot code in general wasn't working well enough to include it as a full feature and the mission was a casualty of this.

Here's a list of movies from IMDB for the searches "wheelchair" and "skip"which might help. Someone might have seen a lot more of the recent movies than I have and see if anything rings a bell.

http://www.imdb.com/keyword/wheelchair/?sort=date

http://www.imdb.com/find?q=skip;s=all

(At Gamefaqs, someone wondered if the chair looks similar to Johnny Sindacco's, though someone else pointed out Johnny died meeting C.J. and the chair is at the lagoon from the start of the game.)

colgate.gif OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I went to the rusty wheelchair in fisher's lagoon at 15:09 on Tuesday with a pink mohawk, aviators, no shirt, and leather pants with spats. When you get there there's a semi transperant old man sitting in it, and i went up to him to take a picture of him and he mumbled somthing and i replyed positivly and he keeps mumbling after alot of positive replys he points towards mount chilliad and fades away. When I checked the map there was a new icon at mount chilliad which lookewd like a footprint. I went there immediatly and i was approached by a large hairy beast like creature which i assumed was bigfoot. After hundreds of M4 rounds and 1000's of health cheats the beast finally perished. When I entered the cave the was a map of san andreas etched into the wall with an X marked on it. I marked the point which was in the middle of the desert on the map near the big ear. When I went there there was an X marked on the ground so i figured I needed a shovel so I went to Catalina's house to pick one up and returned to the X. I locked on to the X with a shovel and dug it and found a transmitter which looked like a Satchel Charge detonator. When I presses it ther Big Ear started spinning and a glowing beam was shooting up to the sky. I watched this for about 20 seconds taking photos. I spawned a jetpack and went into the beam. I watch one the orbs commonly seen which I have been suspicious of in the past and it started coming towards me and getting bigger. Suddenly CJ became paralised and started moving up the beam. Once OI got into the craft I was confronted by Berkly (Zero's Arch enemy). He then took off a mask revealing he was alien. What he tells you Ill leave for you to find out.... You'll be amazed!!! colgate.gif
