I believe the point of that image and the original post is that there are traffic lights for both directions of a one-way street. I don't see it as an issue since doesn't affect gameplay in any way.

If anyone has more vehicle names that spoof a reference please post them. Also post a source so we don't have made-up stuff.

 

 

Walton = Waltons TV series

Sanchez = Dirty Sanchez, sexual euphemism

Romero = George Romero, film director

HPV1000 = HPV (genital warts)

Brown Streak = underwear stain

These are potentially interesting ones I can see immediately; many of these are holdovers from previous games.

• Reefer -- obvious pun combining the dual meaning of the underwater structure "reef" with a slang term for a marijuana cigarette. (reference)
• BF Injection -- short for "beef injection," a slang term for sex. (reference)
• Hustler -- Since Denise gives you both the pimp suit and the Hustler, it's probably a reference to someone who does whatever it takes to make their money, including pimping or petty crimes. (reference). Note that Hustler is also a pornographic magazine in the US, but that doesn't fit as well IMHO
• Patriot -- obvious reference to patriotism since it is based on the Hummer which was a military vehicle turned into a consumer product.
• Dodo -- An extinct flightless bird (reference). Since the original had clipped wings, it was very difficult to fly...
• Faggio -- Most likely combines a reference to "fag," (a derogatory term for homosexuals: reference) with the vehicle it is based on, the Vespa Piaggio.:
• Shamal -- Arabic term for wind. (reference)

The traffic light reminds me of a Vice City traffic light pole that's on top of the Little Havana Laundromat--the one with a Hidden Package, a jogging outfit, and that's one of the stores to knock off. (I 1st heard of it a couple years ago from the spaceeinstein web site.)

I think it's a mistake at best, not an intentional joke by the programmers. Still worth posting and discussing, but not a conventional easter egg find.

 

I added pdescobar's vehicle names: Reefer, BF Injection and Faggio. I left othe others out since they aren't really slang or cultural references. I think if the criteria are too broad we'd end up listing every vehicle.

There's a 'Lemmings' phone booth in diLLimoRe. I found it awhile ago, but never thought of submitting it. It's across from the building you meet Catalina at.

 

and I just found a spoof of Reservoir Dogs across from Roboi's Food Mart, at the theater, on the corner of the street. It says Reservoir Dregs.

Edit: Sorry; I'm jumping on another horse midstream; the suggestion comes with "injection," so that is better. The only phone booth I found in Dillimore on PC is 2 blocks S of the gas station--it doesn't make peds appear and fall, though. How do you make that work?

Yeah it was this topic, it's in the safehouse at Verdant Meadows. You can use search in the bottom of a topic for keywords like "blood" or "fridge."

Yes, but it also stands for Human papillomavirus , which is the most common STD, genital warts. To me it's a pausible enough double-meaning to have been intentional by Rockstar.

Hashbury neighbourhood in SF (SA) = Haight Ashbury neighbourhood in... SF (real life) Important location to the beat scene, hangout of heads and freaks such as Timothy Leary and so forth, here incorporating blatant ganja reference. Uh yeah. Lame, token contribution.

Some people at Gamefaqs were wondering about the wheelchair and the phrase "skip here" again. I haven't seen the movie, and I'm not saying it's an intended connection, but I did use Google a bit and found a recent movie that has a character named Skip and a wheelchair: "Lords of Dogtown." It's very recent, but maybe someone knew someone that worked on it, if it's even any connection at all. It also features California and skateboarding in bowls.

P.S.: sorry if this is obvious, but I don't remember if it's been mentioned: I wonder if "San Andreas" was picked for a title because it's cracked. I don't mean the illegal smoke, although I wouldn't rule out the possibility it could have been on the mind of whoever that named it, too.

glenster, Lords of Dogtown was a 2005 production so I don't think Rockstar could be referencing it; and the character Skip doesn't appear to be the real name of any of the Z-Boys so "skip here" still appears to be a coincidence.

EDIT: Nov. 17th... I just remembered the title "San Andreas" came from GTA1, in 1997. But I don't know where that title came from, or how "cracked, you know-nuts" make any sense.

San Andreas is mainly famous for the crack/fault it has. GTA's were even nuttier in the beginning. There's been a magazine for decades like MAD called Cracked, for example:

Maybe it isn't as common a slang word among the younger people nowadays; I never followed the trends as closely as I might. It still appears as a popular definition for things that are crazy or nutty in the Urban Dictionary:

I just figured it's the kind of in-joke or pun Rockstar is partial to. Otherwise, why pick "San Andreas" when they usally use fictional names (like for Las Vegas or Los Angeles), and why use it for the new game when it's not particularly referenced to in it otherwise other than a few sea floor spots?

Well, GTA1 didn't have any faultlines or references to California that I can think of; and also there is a real place called Liberty City, but in Florida. So it seems GTA: Vice City is the one game with a fictional city name.
