I think I just found a semi-HUGE Easter Egg.

I was playin' GTA 3, and I am at the mission 'gone fishin'; and in the cinematic the guy throws a grenade into the water and the dead fish rise to the surface. I heard that in GTA San Andreas if you throw a grenade into the water that this happens.

No it doesnt happen. Sometimes a glitch happens causing the sea animals to appear above water and swim around in th air though.

It's a glitch, not intentional; so it's not an egg or secret. If they wanted to make dead fish float they would just use the same code from the GTA3 mission.

EDIT: Question for any sleuths out there: please find out of one of the pilot ranking levels in San Andreas is "noops," thanks!

I can tell you that according to the San Andreas GXT Editor, "Noops" does appear in American.gxt in MAIN at location $87279691. Someone more knowledgable about these things than I would have to weigh in on where that's used in-game.

I can also tell you that version 0.9 of The Duff Man's Secrets FAQ (as posted on gtagaming.com) claims it is a pilot ranking and even gives an attribution for it, as highlighted in the quote below:

--- [Pilot Rankings] ---

I'm trying to find an ACCURATE list of numbers to accompany the list here,

that says how long you must fly.  Also, I'm aware that Biggs and Wedge were

names from Final Fantasy, but those 2 names along with Maverick, Goose, etc,

were also from Top Gun.  And, even before that, they were from Star Wars,

which seems to be the original time the names were used (thanks to Billy C

and others).  Also, if you're wondering what "Noops" is, it's named after a

user of the IGN boards that flew the Dodo in GTA3 for 52 hours (of course, he

took breaks)!

                    | Time It Takes |  Ranking          |

                    |---------------+-------------------|

                    | 0:00 - 0:05  | No Rating        |

                    | 0:05 - 0:10  | Flyboy            |

                    | 0:10 - 0:20  | Aircraftman      |

                    | 6:00 - 7:00  | Chappy            |

                    | 7:00 - 8:00  | Iceman            |

                    | 8:00 - 9:00  | Maverick          |

                    | 9:00 - 10:00  | Noops            |

                    | 10:00 - 20:00 | Air Chief Marshal |

                    | 20:00 - 30:00 | Ace              |

                    +---------------+-------------------+

Thanks to Hotring887 for the flight times.

Apologies on the copy&paste formatting issues, although it's not too badly munged. That's an awful lot of flight time, but there's at least some target for people to check their stats for confirmation.

Thanks a lot pd! Now I can say Rockstar made noops a pilot rating, because the person with the GTA3 dodo longest flight record had the online alias of "noops." cool.gif

I thought noops was a ranking in this but didn't find the evidence.... good work.

I checked on Noops for my walk-through for VC--it uses the same Pilot Rankings. This is what I have for that:

There's a glitch that makes you an "Ace" most of the time. But you're supposed to be able to go from no rating up though 19 titles like "Flyboy," "Biggs," "Red Baron," and "Maverick" and such up to "Ace."

Flyboy is a slang word for a member of the air force, and, even more generally, an aircraft pilot.

Aircraftman is the lowest rank in the RAF; Aircraftmen are known in British slang as erks.

Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force is like the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

A Corporal in the RAF is like a Senior Airman in the USAF.

A Lieutenant, or Flight Lieutenant, in the RAF is like a Captain in the USAF.

A Sergeant in the RAF is like a Staff or Technical Sergeant in the USAF.

A Captain, or Group Captain, in the RAF is like a Colonel in the USAF.

In "Star Wars," 1977, Garrick Hagon plays Red Three, Biggs, and Denis (as "Dennis") Lawson plays Red Two, Wedge Antilles (also in Episode V, "The Empire Strikes Back," 1980, and Episode VI, "Return of the Jedi," 1983), who are pilots who help Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill. destroy a huge space station called the Death Star. According to cjshoup of the forums at the toonzone.net web site, there are characters named Biggs and Wedge in versions VI, 1994, VII, 1997, VIII, 1999, and X, 2001, of the "Final Fantasy" games, too.

The Red Baron, before he was a character fought by Snoopy from the dog house he pretended was a Sopwith Camel in the late Charles Schultz' cartoon strip "Peanuts," was a famous WW I German fighter pilot named Manfred von Richthofen. At a time when 20 victories garnered the Blue Max award, he had 80. Most of his biplanes were partly red, as then became the case with the other planes in his squadron starting in 1917, but he's usually identified with the entirely red Fokker Dr.1 triplane he flew at the end of his career. He died when he was shot (possibly from the ground or a British plane chasing him) chasing a British Sopwith Camel over France.

Thanks to the web site http://www.briggsenterprises.com/bluemax/

As the FAQ by Aggrosk8er at the Gamefaqs web site notes, some of the names come from the movie "Top Gun." Thanks to him and his FAQ for all the titles and points required for them.

In "Top Gun," 1986, Tom Cruise plays Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, Val Kilmer plays Lt. Tom "Iceman" Kazanski, Michael Ironside plays Lt. Cmdr. Rick "Jester" Heather, Tom Skerritt plays Cmdr. Mike "Viper" Metcalf, and Anthony Edwards plays Lt. Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, at a Navy flight school given the nickname "Top Gun."

"Chappy" is taken from the "Iron Eagles" movies I, 1986, through IV, 1995, starring Lou Gossett, Jr., as Colonel Charles "Chappy" Sinclair.

A special mention should be made of Poland's young Andrew Noops n Gleh, who used to frequent the ign.com message boards. From what seems most reliable from looking at various web pages, he flew the GTA "III" Dodo for 176,488 seconds and was awarded by Rockstar with a special flight rating in "Vice City."

Air Chief Marshal is the highest rank in the RAF (Marshal of the Royal Air Force was discontinued in the peace time of the 1990's) and is like a General in the USAF (General of the Air Force used during war time).

thanks to these web sites for the comparison of RAF and USAF ranks:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraftman

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_military_ranks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_m...h.2C_US.2C_and_

Canadian_officer_ranks

Ace is a more general term for a particularly skilled person, in this case an aircraft pilot.

Awesome glenster, thanks for the great work as always!

I think the "ace glitch" gives you that ranking in between the legitimate rankings, so every other level you advance to is mistakenly called Ace.

I'll try to condense some of the ranks and explanations into a post for the list.

I'm not sure if it is really a easter egg or not but I've seen the letters CJS in several places... Both on a box of fish in a convenience store and on the top part of road barricades...

CJ-Carl Johnson

JS=SJ-Sean Johson aka "Sweet"

Maybe I am reading to much into this... tell me what you think.

There's a 'Lemmings' phone booth in diLLimoRe. I found it awhile ago, but never thought of submitting it. It's across from the building you meet Catalina at.

and I just found a spoof of Reservoir Dogs across from Roboi's Food Mart, at the theater, on the corner of the street. It says Reservoir Dregs.

That was already in VC so no easter egg or secret here! Sorry

Edit : Oh, I forgot!!!

The car called Romero isn't called that way because of the programmer Tony Romero but if you think a little, the car is a hearse, so it transports dead people. George A.Romero is a very very famous Zombie-flim director (Recently he did "Land of the Dead")

Click here for his IMDB page

The car called Walton is a reference to the TV serie "The Waltons" starring a hillbilly familiy :

If anyone has more vehicle names that spoof a reference please post them. Also post a source so we don't have made-up stuff.

Walton = Waltons TV series

Sanchez = Dirty Sanchez, sexual euphemism

Romero = George Romero, film director

HPV1000 = HPV (genital warts)

Brown Streak = underwear stain
