Newly Discovered Button Cheats!

Recommended Posts

He said that the search is running 24/7, which means that the logging is fully automatic, including some way for his program to tell that the "Cheat Activated" box appeared.

I'm not sure if he literaly meant 24/7. I think he meant it's always running as long as he's there watching it or whatever.

I'm not sure how the software would know when the cheat activated box comes up, unless it can recognize that dialog box activation sound (?) That would have to be some damn powerful software. Or maybe it "intercepts" a singal from the controller when the dialog box appears, but I doubt that.

Maybe edison could clear this up? wink.gif

If a good code is found something in the game would happen, his program probably then sees that. Or it sees the script of Cheat Activated when you put in the right code.

But as far as we all know, he only has the controller connected to his computer. This means that the game would have to send a specific singal to the controller when a cheat is activated, but why would it do that?

Now a way that could (but doesn't) work is if when the cheat is activated, and it were to cause the controller to vibrate, then the software could detect that vibration signal. However, this does not happen. I've never felt it vibrate when I enter a cheat.

Ah well no matter how it happens, the point is that it works and we're getting some awesome new cheats. smile.gif

It wouldn't be that hard to wire one of the audio outputs into the box, and just have it monitor for the spike the 'beep' that acompanies the 'Cheat activated' message.

Yeah, that's how I would figure it would detect it. Actually, he may just have an adapter that allows him to connect his PS2 audio RCA cable directly to the line input on his sound card. Either that or he just has it connected to another input, such as a capture device.

But seeing how he's connected his controller to his PC, he probably has some genious-like wiring setup to accomplish this. smile.gif

If it is done by detecting the audio sound of the dialog box, then all the software would have to do is remember the last X number of button signals it sent so that it can "save" the button combination that was used to activate that cheat.

......Or perhaps everything I've said is completely wrong and he just has a secret wizard stashed in his room that whips out some serious magic to get these cheats. tounge2.gif

If Edison would like to post an explanation on this... and end all these conversations on how it works... feel free.  turn.gif

I detect codes by the confirmation sound. I have everything set up so nothing else makes noise. I'm at the airstrip away from roads or people. It's a mission before the turf wars so no "Our Hood is Under Attack" messages. I'm using GameShark Infinite Hungry code so CJ doesn't starve. I got rid of all weapons. I go to the back of the garage so you can't hear CJ's punching and jumping sounds. Then I record the audio with CoolEdit. You can see a blip in the sound wave if there is one, then zoom in on it and see its time index and match it up with the program's logs. There wasn't a blip today.

Ah, so that's how it's done. So I guess I was sorta right about the detecting the sound thing? Except it doesn't really "detect" the sound. You just leave the sound recording nonstop with Cool Edit (great program by the way wink.gif ) and then later you check for any indication of sound via the graphical audio display in Cool Edit and make note of the time that sound happened and then look at the software at that same time and find the button presses it used?

That's some genious stuff there edison. Damn.......I was hoping that a magical wizard was involved somewhere in there. biggrin.gif Ah well.

I was just about to post saying how complex it would be to write a sound rec program to recognize a certain 'blip' sound. That is a very nice way of getting arround that.

my guess is, one combination per 4-5 seconds, but im not edison so im probly wrong, its probly faster

and yeah im too lazy to type probly the correct way

It better be a lot faster. I belive he mentioned some sort of a clocking pulse for 3 counts of which the button codes are sent to the PS2. I'm sure that puse is at least in the hundreds of kHz range, which would allow him to go through at least 10,000 combinations every second, and perhaps as high as 10 million combinations per second.

Edited by K^2

Actually, it is 8 years at 10 million combinations per second. In order to make sure that you've tried every combination, you have to go through 12^12 of them, and that is a very, very large number.

Seems I've made an error somewhere. At 10^7 combos per second, it is just 10 days. But as I said, that is just the lower bound. At 10^4 combinations per second, that becomes 10,000 days, or arround 27 years.

Sorry K^2 but you're completely wrong here. My last calculations said that with a rate of only 10^1 codes per sec it would take 3 years 333...

and these calculations are 100% correct! I'm sure you didn't study mathematics, did you? Well, I did...so..

sorry, everyone makes a mistake, but just to clear up

with 10^4 codes a second it would need (1/100) * 3 years 333 days...

if it's that fast....but oh well..

as I already said, sorry didn' mean to insult you, but maybe I made a mistake, but I dont believe (I checked it through)...

so, just to clear up

To Edison Carter :

If you know that you've unlocked a new cheat only by the sound it makes, you can miss cheats! It's not about not hearing them, but I'm French and we had a censured GTA III here! There was a code that allows us to see more gore scene like body parts blowed away after a bazooka shot! This code works well but when you activate it, there are no noise or message! If you're discovering cheats used for debugging, may be there are some with no clue that they were activated!

Only a thought but I wanted to share it with you

[sorry if my English is not perfect, hope you understand me...]

That's true, but Skiller's testing indicated that they all notify when activated. They're all done together in one function so they're more consistent. GTA3 was just a bunch of "if (strcmp(pszBuffer, "URDLURDL12") == 0)" so each was done individually and inconsistently, and it was super easy for people to find the cheats by looking at strings.

If there is another hidden cheat implemented separately from the main batch that doesn't notify, then I won't be able to find it.

Found another one, don't know what it does yet:

Correction to my earlier post:

I said ALL gangs. i've actually only seen GSF, Ballas and Vagos.

I can't find any other gangs even in areas where they usually always are.

Definitely it's mostly Ballas though -they are on nearly every street corner on all 3 islands.

Edited by carpetdweller

Maybe it's a "Gangs as normal peds" code. Because they drive like every car now, and they aren't that agressive anymore....

EDIT: Oh and K^2, sorry. I was wrong, my calculations would've been right if one code consisted of only different buttons, so no double buttons lol

That's why I didn't see a mistake because I thought if I made a mistake, then it would've been a calculative mistake, but actually I calculated as if every code consisted of only different buttons. But if you can press buttons twice or thrice or whatever (which is actually the case) then there are far more combos and that's why your calculations are right. sorry for that

They don't seem to be everywhere, just seem to be in normal gang spots.

I've seen GSF, Ballas and Vagos in LV. I've seen Ballas all over SF. I've seen mostly Ballas in LS. I haven't seen any gangs inside SF airport or by the Cluckin' Bell in Tierra Robarda.

I've only seen one Triad and he was pulled out of a car by the Ballas and then he started shooting them. I haven't seen the Rifa by the Doherty garage. I haven't seen the triads in chinatown or da Nang near the docks where thy always seem to be.

I'm not saying this is what the cheat does, but in my experience it replaces other gangs with the main 3 LS gangs and most of those seem to be Ballas.

They do seem to drive all vehicles now.

EDIT: in case anyone's thinking that the current state of there own game affects what this cheat does. My own gang territory stats are: GSF = 49, Vagos = 6, Ballas = 2.

Edited by carpetdweller

I think it just spawns more Grove, Ballas, and Vagos regardless of territories. It doesn't seem to care where it spawns them either. I saw one of the skinny plaid Grove streets driving around in a perennial and in the passenger seat was a vago with the yellow headband. I pulled the grove guy out of the car, and then stopped myself from entering. The vago got out of the car and him and the Grove member started shooting at each other... after the grove member killed the vago, I punched him with a super punch to teach him a little something about what CJ thinks about traitors.

Ever thought of going to the first page?

I did if you are refferring to gtasanan.com it doesnt have mega punce and gangs everywhere and the whole backround is orange and its all in different colors its a HUGE waste of ink i mean just look at it

Gtasanan.com

The only codes that aren't there are on the homepage anyway. And if the colours are that bad, why not use the printable version..

..or does that not contain enough colours? turn.gif

I'm fairy sure Kazass meant the first page of this thread. That's where Edison would put them as soon as he found them. As for the old ones - wouldn't they be in the confirmed cheats topic.

So to answer the original question:

This site.

Not sure what this proves -

I started a new game from from a save in Angel Pine. Entered the cheat. Walked around the block and saw 3 Ballas. I kept walking then turned around they were gone. Walked in a different direction and 2 Ballas. Kept walking and saw 4 Ballas. I then stopped and stood next to them. They said normal Ballas type sayings to me and then started shooting at a lone GSF gang member. A single cop took out most of them. Another GSF turned up, as did a Vagos. Then another Vagos went past on a Wayfarer motorcycle. The shootout continues.

The Ballas still vastly outnumber all the others though.

Other than the gang members I can't find any normal peds anymore.

Did you enter the newer 'gang cheat' or the one from a couple of days ago?

Because I still had all pedestrians on my game, and police walking around the streets too. There were ballas and GSF driving some cars, but not too much of them were driven by gang members.

Im certain that it only swaps a couple of civvies for the gang members, or just adds the 3 gangs along with them all.

Do you exclusively only ever see GSF, Ballas, and Vagos once you enter the cheat?

<gameshark only>

While waiting for button cheats I've been writing some awesome GameShark cheats. I can raise the water level and drive a JetMax down the strip like I've been wanting to. That was my favorite mod in Vice City and I was dying to do that in SA. I'm working on another one that moves all the trees and rocks and stuff into the city so it looks like one of those SciFi novels where a radiation leak or something forces them to abandon the city and it gets all overgrown and taken back by nature. You can drive down the street knocking down baby trees.

Here's the thread for the GameShark Water Level Cheat:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=173411

Again, it requires GameShark, it's not a button cheat.

The new one on the first page without a name yet.

There were hill billy types around just after i did the cheat but after the shootout I couldn't see any anymore in all of Angel Pine. Maybe the old ones are still around but no new ones respawn, or it might just be that it's now gone 21:00 gametime so maybe all the hicks are in bed.

Strangely when I did the cheat earlier and had seen the 3 LS gangs around most of the city types of SA i returned to LS to not find many gang members anymore. When i got into a car and the alarm went off the cops arrived.

Wierd.

It cant be different for everybody.

I guess this is just going to be a tough one to figure out for sure. We only know its definitely something to do with the gang members. I'd only activated the cheat in LV, and still had pedestrians. But Ive heard different now from other people.

Its strange, but Im sure a good explanation of the cheat will come about soon.

Update in Angel Pine:

Walked around for ages didn't see anyone not wearing Purple, Green or Yellow except the Hotdog vendor. A cop car went past but I didn't see the driver. I've been shot at without provoking a Ballas. I stood near the Sheriff's Office and fired my missile launcher until I got a 2 star wanted level. No cops came. After just walking around and losing my wanted stars. i entered an Ammu-nation. Normal guy in there. Left and saw a cop. Then one more. Walked away and saw some Ballas. Then a cop started punching me for no good reason (I had no stars). It's now gone 08:30 and still only gangs & cops.

existentialtimecrisis2

this new cheat seems pretty weird it sounds like its the same as the other gang cheat im about to try out the new one now

rampage_ani.gif GTA MA$TA rampage_ani.gif

EDIT: i just tried both codes and didnt find a difference between the two so i dont think there is a difference

Edited by GTA MA$TA

That new code is funky. Here's what I've done with it so far.

I went out of my save house (saved at the Hashbury save house) and went south across the street to the golf course. I was greeted by some Ballas, who started to shoot at me. They got a taste of my Minigun. More Ballas approached from the right, so I blasted them too, along with a couple of GSFs by accident. Some more Ballas spawned behind me, so I shot them too, and ran out into the street. I got hit by a Balla driving a Caddy. I went back towards my save house, blasting some gang members as I went. At the first intersection, I was being shot at by some Vagos near some cars. I blew up the cars with my Minigun, killing them and earning a one-star wanted level. A firetruck appeared as well. Then, a biker cop showed up, so I shot him and ran east. Two stars. Another biker cop appeared. I shot him too and got three stars. Then, no more cops showed up. Then, some nearby GSFs ran over to a car and pulled out a Rifa (whom I've never). They shot him and killed him.

EDIT: After the GSFs killed the Rifa, the cops showed up, but only cops on foot. I cleared them out with the Minigun and ran into the alleyway behind Marital Arts gym. A hotdog van was there, the guy inside was normal. That's about when the helicopter showed up. I shot it out of the sky and got four stars. I ran out past the Banshee, shooting cops as I went. I turned left onto the road. Then a SWAT Van and a cop car showed up. I blasted them to bits, too. I turned left again and ran back to the alley. I got five stars.

I shot an FBI Rancher that was behind me, and heard the chopper. I looked up and saw nothing. So I looked to the right and saw circling FBI Ranchers. I shot them and blew them up. Funny thing too, I got knocked down by a flying piece of the car. Then I looked up again, and saw that helicopter. I shot it down for 6 stars. Suddenly, an FBI Rancher appears on my right, so I blow it up and run back towards the Banshee. Two cop cars and a Rhino was there. The tank stopped for some reason, and the corpse of a white-shirt Balla flew over it. The soldier was nowhere in sight, so I Motolov'd the tank and Minigun'd the cop cars.

Strangely enough, normal traffic (except for the gangs in the cars) resumed for the moment. Nothing seemed to show up for a while, so I just shot cops. After seeing an Ambulance in the distance, I saw a turret crawl up behind me. I quickly ran into the alley again and Motolov'd it. The Barracks showed up now. It seems like when you get 6 stars, the police suddenly return to their normal rate of appearing. I shot the helicopter down again a couple times and destroyed vehicles near the Banshee. Eventually, I saw a dead Balla lodged in the wall of the Marital Arts gym. Ballas and Vagos also showed up to shoot me at times. After a while, the News chopper finally appeared. I couldn't destroy it, though. I eventually got killed when I blew up a Barracks and the black heap landed on top of me.

-------------

Here's what I've gathered so far about the gang variation.

- Street is filled with GSFs, Vagos and Ballas. Very few peds remain.

- Almost every car has a GSF, Vago or Balla inside.

- A few peds remain as the driver of a car, though. However, only pecular ones will do this. Examples include Bikers, SF Taxi Drivers and security guards.

- Of course, cops, firefighters and paramedics are the same.

- Sometimes, if you are in their hood, other gang members such as Rifa and Varrios will show up, but only in cars. When that happens, they will usually be shot at or will get out of their car to shoot.

- Sometimes, different gang members will appear in the same car.

- Food stand owners also appear as normal.

- Cop cars seem to appear *A LOT* less often, except when you have 6 stars.

- Taxi driver: You can do this by picking up food stand owners and taxi drivers. Don't expect to get more than one fare at a time, though.
