Voodoo
I had been playing the game for what seemed like forever before I saw my first plane crash. Everyone was posting about them left and right and I was feeling a little like the character from the movie "Mallrats" who never gets to see the 3D sailboat in the optical illusion picture. One day on Chilliad I was getting bored with looking for Bigfoot - yes, it was that long ago and yes, I did look for Bigfoot once - so I crossed the river on the north side and was climbing up the hill by the TV station and KABOOM! A rustler hit the tower. I thought, FINALLY, and stood still for about 20 min while 5 more planes hit and blew. I discovered that at just about the time the burnt carcass of a plane disappears, a new one will spawn and fly over. I must have gotten it out of my system that day 'cause I haven't been back since, but I recommend everyone try this at least once. It's pretty cool, and it's a guaranteed way to see a crash or five. bLo0dD
Everyone posts that they saw a plane crash on Mt. Chilliad bla bla bla Here is why they crash near you: When you're in the city, notice that frequently a plane passes by above you, it's simply 's way of putting realism into the game by having planes flying around. When you are on Mt. Chilliad, they do the same, except that you are on a mountain, high up, the planes fly at the same hieght, causing them to crash into the mountain because the mountain is high enough to get in their path. Although I'm not saying this because I have proof, it is a theory... Anyone disagree?
Onji_Mozan
I agree, and disagree. I guess the planes could be hitting the side of the mountain, and they probaly do, but I was at Madd Dogg's mansion, and a plane crashed right above the mansion and landed infront of me. wildhalcyon
Actually, the planes fly at different heights generally, I've seen low-flying and high-flying airplanes, it all depends. The important thing about plane crashes is that they occur because the planes fly straight and don't avoid collisions with those objects (although, in general, the planes do have modest collision avoidance, it just doesn't seem to register generally)
Dragonick
i agree with the realism that R* wanted to put in the game, but i think sometimes the plane crashes are a little excessive, i mean perfect example, today i was in Las Venturas on one of the main drags, seeing how fast i can blow past traffic with the nos blowing, and out of nowhere, a plane comes down out of nowhere, lands right on top of my car and blows up

I only theorise here but I think the crashes where you don't expect them are due to dodgy collision detection, or just power poles and other objects. I mean there's all these interiors floating about in "blue hell" maybe planes are hitting them then dodgy spawning or whatnot.
Mafia Righthand_Man
I've seen plenty of planes fly around the summit and not blow up. The flight altitudes are all different.

Hawkeye1985
The plane-crashes may be caused by the planes, coliding with something. Buildings, rocks etc. But, I was once standing on top (and i do mean on TOP) of Mount Chiliad, and a Rustler came down from the sky, all covered in smoke, and crashed, There's nothing it could have colided with, at that altitude. What I'm saying is, maybe the plane-crashes aren't so random afterall. It *could* be something, deliberatly programmed into the game. Grizzly66
sucks, the first plane crash I see is on the last quarry mission and I am about to load the body into the dumper when boom (huh ? where did the explosion come from) then a rustler crashes into the dumper and blows it and the dirtbike up. kid4today
first one i saw was in los santos next to one of the dancing clubs (i was on a date). a rustler musta hit a building, i heard the explosions then saw it come careering down the street blowing up cars as it hit them, pretty cool to see. i seen a few at mount chilliad, the most annoying one tho was when a beagle crashed right in my path whilst i was doing the cobra run so i couldn't get on to the raised wooden boards! Kingjad
Best plane crashes: 1) After "King in exile" cut scene in badlands, Catalina called. Now, IF I had stood still while talking, I would have been crushed to death by an exploding Beagle. I'm thankful I could walk and talk, put it that way! I walked behind the caravan thingy, which saved me from the explosions! But the parked Sanchez then blew up next to me and took away some of me health. 2) Picking up Maccer and Kent Paul in "Don Peyote". We're passing the strip club in the desert part of LV, and I look to my left - a Rustler is flying along the ground, grinding along. It tries to fly off again, but unfortunately for the Rustler it rises for a second before hitting a petrol station (gas station). KABOOM!
Mr. Someguy
This is a different kind of plane crash: I'm runnin from a Hydra in a seasparrow, It was about to do another fly-by, I thought I was gonna be killed when the Hydra flies into the garver bridge. The Hydra's wing clipped the briges piller, the Hydra goes down in a cloud of black smoke, & I'm saved .
