xrk
My new building for the project. I went for the 1989 look for this one aswell, i'm still modelling it, i think i'm gonna have some problems putting something like this ingame though because of it's size Why would you have any problems because of size? and 3d windows over a certain height are just going to be poly waste (for a game), would'nt it be better to just use textures for the illusion
hick
Well i didn't mean putting it ingame i meant ingame, for example there were clouds covering most of it when i tested it ingame,so alot of it will hardly be visible, and the windows, i have only extruded them in, if they were 2d it would look kinda crappy in my opinion, more like a box than a building. I never meant all windows, just windows over a certain height. Whos going to care if the windows are "3d" while (for example) flying a plane but you have to do what you think is best and I agree to an extent but I just mean if you end up building a city (you will want something to do with your buildings?) it could (possibly) end up giving you problems later on i.e detail that could have been used better later on. maybe Im just assuming and chatting sh*t though, which is highly probable... I blame the beer! Edited June 9, 2008 by xrk
hick
I get what you mean, theres gonna be alot of buildings so maybe that could be a possibility, I am starting college doing computer games deveopment soon so i'll get alot of help then, especially designing the buildings, (part of the course covers concept art and stuff so i supose that'll come in useful). :EDIT: Another building i'm workin on. 007 RoadRunner
Your buildings look good and original. Are youbuilding a mod or why all those different buildings? Model looks good and will probably look even better once you've textured it.
hick
@Teun, hahaha your better than me, your above my level . @007 RoadRunner, Yeah mate, I am working on a mod with teun.steenbekkers, the guy above your post, we hope to make Gotham, yeah i know it's ambitious, thanks i try to make my buildings look different, i am very influenced by art deco and Streamline moderne design at the moment, which is good because alot of Gotham city is Art Deco desgin. Quadropheniac90
My 1st contribution to beforementioned project. http://www.isarapix.org/pix79/1213134146.jpg http://www.isarapix.org/pix42/1213134200.jpg It's tall I guess. Around 3500 polygons, and yet have to add logo, and searchlights, maybe nice entrance somewhere.
Fredskin
Nice model ! Maybe a bit to talll i thinks....
Quadropheniac90
Aye, the Wayne Tower is very tall, and Gotham in general too if I'm correct. It has 80 stories. But I'll take that into consideration, you might be right. Now sleepy time. Bye fellas.
Fredskin
Bye, and i hope this mod be release one day because i'm a Batman Fan too....
hick
Thanks for the interest Fredskin, we really need to get a map done, it is just hard to even imagine though. I put it ingame Teun, it's so tall i can't actually get it into the camera view from top to bottom , also i'm having a problem where it dissapears when you get near the top , i had this with a few buildings before, it's summin i'm doin wrong i think, i only learned how to put ingame a few days ago, i'm probally doin summin wrong with the col. I'm a noob with this stuff. Any suggestions for buildings? Edited June 10, 2008 by hick
pgtipsp
sounds awesome guys! gotham should be very tall, it should also have many sky bridges linking buildings and things, as well as lower level buildings - as for details make sure you have a lot of trash, fire escapes and neon lighting and signage (im assuming the gotham you're doing is the 'dark deco' style of the comics and the 1989 tim burton batman film, rather than the more realistic design of batman begins
hick
Yeah man, your on our wavelength . Just think of New York if the whole planning permision thing was messed up, No height restrictions, bridges over streets etc.
Quadropheniac90
@Paul: That might be cause SA has a sky limit or something. Not sure. You could try limit adjuster. I'm gonna UV Map this thing and (try to) texture it.
pinky
It is to do with LOD heights, the same happens in Gostown when using planes flying overhead. Although it only sticks on the LOD models and deosn't load up the detailed one. Yours will just disappear if there is no LOD model. I think it is because the LOD is calculated from the base, a trick to try is splitting the tower vertically in parts so the lower or upper can go into LOD while keeping the nearest as the detailed model. Just an idea.
TSH
Well I made a building only texturing left. This building is like 3 buildings in 1 Check it out and tell me what could be better please House 1 House 2 House 3 House

Quadropheniac90
Looks pretty good man. So I made the UV map for Wayne Tower. I still have to make searchlights and the logo (does it even have a logo?) and a lobby area at the bottom but it's coming along nicely.
