vans123 Posted November 27, 2009 Share Posted November 27, 2009 well always all ppl say 3DS is hard and sucks a little bit, but trying doesnt worth anything and helps you improving yourself looks like your sketchup models lack of textures and is to tiled, btw...how you done that awsome and so perfect Tree shadow on the floor?? I ask couse it seems like it doesnt have ENB series On(when you shooted the screenie) and that shadow is perfectly noticed! If you could say me something weird...wasnt ferrari the fan guy of Bruce Lee..and that building says "Bruce Lee"...are you ferrari?? well just a question alot of ppl can be fan of Bruce Lee Awsome! The shadow is staticly generated in 3D Studio Max and the only thing made by the guy is the model with the "Bruce Lee" text on it. @titboom: My advice is to learn sketchup modeling and THEN start learning 3D Studio Max. supermortalhuman Posted November 28, 2009 Share Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) i think so! good work - now, move on to 3ds max, quickly! before sketchup corrupts your ability to learn proper industry standard workflows and terminology! It's like learning a language - knowing max made learning hammer hard as f*ck - made learning sketchup feel wrong - when I look at people who can't use max, but can use hammer, I feel relieved that I learned max first and had a harder time going back-in-time to hammer-type tech. Sketchup is a totally different workflow in most ways, and it is really better than most people say if you are careful about topology and where you place the points in your sketching. I like that building, you could put it in gmax/max and look at it and use max tools to make it again - it would be good practice and that way you learn it instead of just fix the model for lighting, you end up with a new model already ready for lighting. ;lol it's clever how you used basic map to give yourself some walking room around the outside speedy approach. but yea, you're a pro fast with that, and everyone showed some nice things in here, really inspirational. supermortalhuman Posted November 28, 2009 Share Posted November 28, 2009 I like video tutorials - I don't know which language you speak, but if you can listen to audible english, I have always prescribed 3Dbuzz.com and recommended youtube as a great place to learn new things. For 3DBuzz.com, you need to be a member to view the full videos, but they are hosted elsewhere online, and there are alternatives. 3Dbuzz is very good because they teach you very game specific bare-bones show you how and tell you why - which is very important when you are trying to get your feet wet and make some models to get started. There are tutorials all over the internet, and their are lots of max related tuts in the gtaforum here, searching is key, but using google is best unless you're looking for purely GTA related content (though there are some contents here like modeling a building in max or modeling roads in max which are geared to GTA essentially, but can be used for purely max learning I imagine). If you got that building done fast, and it was fun to do, and most importantly, it works in-game without problems with the collision, use sketchup, because if that works and is the comfortable thing at the same time, go for it. Make sure to scale everything to realistic limits and add crossroads to the roads and pavements. Also, import a scale like Claude or a car from GTA and use that to scale everything appropriately. I made that VRock billboard for US:LC and let Monitor use it with others in SA:LC II. Those other billboards you are using were also made for US:LC and given to SA:LC II.
