The NFL season has kicked off, with Peyton Manning and Mike Vick both throwing intercepts in the first half, and good signs have come from both backup QB's, with Schaub (ATL), throwing 2 TD's and 9/10 for 87 yards. Mike Vick has 4/7 for 51 yards and a pick. Manning threw 8 balls for 6 completions and 35 yards with a TD and a INT. Sorgi has come out and has thrown for 50% of his 4 passes and 41 yards.

 

Warrick Dunn looks the better of the RB's, with 48 yds off 10 attempts compared to Edgerrin James' with 3 runs for 20 yards. He probably hasn't had a chance yet though.

 

Atlanta are winning 20-14 at halftime.

TO could Holdout now, just leave training camp. If he did, the Eagles would need him bad. If he wants to make a move and be a jackass he would ask for a better contract now, while Pinkston is out, because I think that Greg Lewis is going to be a good WR.

If Eagles don't resign TO then I believe their number 1 slot receiver is...Greg Lewis..Damn that sucks for the Eagles, I've seen Lewis play a bit last year when he caught a bomb threw by McNabb (forgot which game) but he's not ready to be the 'go-to' receiver.

On-topic - Yeah, with the Todd Pinkston injury, TO would hold out. Because he knows, they won't have any passing game without TO now that Pinkston is gone, and Mitchell is gone. If Greg Lewis comes in at #1... Wow, just wow.

Agreed. T.O. didn't have the superstar role last year that he had in San Francisco, and now that he's the big dog on the receiving squad, perhaps he'll produce more numbers.

 

Although it's a shame that Philadelphia has lost 3 straight NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl, I haven't really sympathized with them as much as I used to since they've got T.O. He can be funny sometimes and exciting most of the time, but I find him rather annoying and arrogant. However, in spite of that, there's no doubt in my mind that he will make their offense more efficient.

as the whole T.O. situation goes i highly doubt he will holdout and if he does the eagles wont show him a cent we will just have to go out make a FA signing and hope for the best

Well, the Dolphins were on top all game and lead 24-13 going into the final quarter, but a great effort from new rookie Bears QB K. Orton sealed the game, and although he only threw the ball 11 times, it went for 7 completions, 175 yards and a TD with an INT. This all happened in one quarter.

 

Ricky Williams return was very overhyped, he ran 5 times for 8 yards. Overall their run offense didn't show much flair at all (41 yards), and the offense only succeeded once in three attempts in the redzone, compared to 2-4 for the Bears. The only TD the Dolphins scored in the redzone was on 'Goal to Go', which was a 1 yard pass.

 

Neither offense really were able to prove anything on 3rd down (Bears 4-12, Dolphins 5-13). Good to see Brian Westbrook get off his holdout, he was a revelation for the Eagles last year, and contributed greatly to fill in the big hole left by Duce Staley at RB. Another great defender has left the Patriots. Last year it was Lawyer Milloy, this year Ty Law. It whouldn't be too bad, they still have Randall Gay and Asante Samuel to fill in those big shoes. Randall Gay made the most tackles in the Superbowl last year (10, all individual), so it won't be too hard. -MDG

Yeah, there are some fairly unsung heroes in the Pats secondary, but still, they have lost a couple of big players in Milloy and Law. Well, with the Dolphins offense, I didn't expect him to have 25 carries for 100 yards, but I thought that coming back from a big lay off from football he might have got a bit more action than that. -MDG

Its not his choice on how long he plays, but I couldn't agree more. Madden said "Williams and Morris(Sammy) are fighting for a spot for the roster", well, Ricky Williams won't get a spot on the roster only getting 5 carries IMO.

Yeah, probably not, I think Nick Saban needs to look at his priorities into how he uses Williams in the preseason. I mean, with any other experienced RB, I can understand giving others a go, but in RW's case, certainly not. He needs to get I am imagining atleast a quarter and a bit each game if he wants to get back his match fitness and some consistency and form. -MDG

I will agree with D jones that Eugene Wilson is underated. 2 seasons and has 8 INTs. and for a DB he has a sh*tload of tackles.

Eugene Wilson is a FS to be exact. So Rodney Harrison and Ty Law were getting all the damn tackles. But he is very underrated with his abilitys.

Yeah, he is a FS on the Patriots, but he played CB in College I believe, and he played some CB last year when Tyrone Poole and Asante Samuel were both injured. So he can play either position.

 

As for the Patriots not having Ty Law, he's no big loss. He's past his prime, and they still won the Superbowl without him.

 

I also noticed nobody mentioned Tyrone Poole. He's got some real talent and was on the IR for more than half the season last year.

 

The Patriots also picked up Duane Starks and Hank Poteat, so their secondary should be fine.

 

As for the lost of Bruschi and Johnson, they still have Mike Vrabel, Willie McGinist, and Rosevelt Colvin for linebackers, plus they have Chad Brown, Monty Beisel, and Don Davis, all veterans.

 

So I think that the Patriots defense hasn't really suffered any big losses.
