Brady Games' Misprint in GTA:SA Strategy Guide

Recommended Posts

GTA3Freak-2001

This is a note for people who are finding a clear mistake with the Photo Op location list in the Brady Guides for San Andreas. Brady Guides released the two pages in pdf form that fix the mistakes. I am also aware that possibly the horseshoe locations are wrong too but Brady Games have yet to do anything about it.

You'll find the fixes for the misprints Here

I bought this guide for the simple reason that I can't see my PC from my PS2. I knew I was going to find all the horseshoes, tags, photo ops, and oysters to get 100% and I planned on using this guide for it. In fact, the rest of the stuff (while helpful) wasn't what I got the guide for.

The time to collect the items comes. The tags were fine, except one was missing from the map, but I found it by using the picture. Next come the photo ops. First thing I notice is the numbers on the map are completely out of sync with the pictures and descriptions. "God damn", I think, but I manage since photo ops are easy to do without a picture & description.

The next thing that comes is horseshoes. I think "They can't screw these up too", I was so wrong. Every horseshoe icon on the map was about 1 CM to the left. It was manageable, but all the same, annoying.

I'm sorry to say this but what kind of retards work at Bradygames? If you don't even check through a guide once it's been printed and just release it with those errors, what does that say about the company?

They didn't have ONE person to look through the guide and possibly check the most important things like the COLLECTIONS?

Anyone who bought the guide will have found it, so why couldn't they?

Then they think they can fix it by releasing the fixed pages in pdf form.. umm, no. I bought the guide because I can't see my PC from my PS2 and I am not printing those pages out since they will be bad quality (and the fact that I've already collected everything).

Wish I could sue 'em. smile.gif

In the gearman Version are some descriptions still in english, and some houses are missing, so the location can't be on the roof of a house.

On side 130 the map is only a copy of the map from side 206 with the locations.

Much locations, like armor, are missing. (1/3 i think)

Yeah the guide I think was done before the game was finalized, then they changed a bunch of stuff. The photo ops pissed me off the most, they were always way off.

Man they should recall the guides and resell them. What do these idiots think they're doing by just having updated pages on their main page??? REDO THE DAMN GUIDES.

im sorry but I dont feel like forking another $15 to bradygames because they were the ones that screwed it up in the first place. I tried collecting horseshoes and I found it damn near impossible with the horrible locations. They had a location out in the desert in the middle of nowhere and the picture and discription said it was on the front step of a house...

I quote from the guide...

See the Las Venturas map, screen shots, and descriptions to precisely locate each Horseshoe.

I ran into a major problem with one of the horseshoes (#46) when I went to go find it. It said that the horseshoes was inside the "o" in HOTEL on a hotel on the old venturas strip. I found numerous problems.

#1 The preview picture did not have a sign that read hotel in it, let alone a sign.

#2 The preview picture didn't even have the horseshoe in the shot suicidal.gif

#3 The marker on the map was nowhere near the preview photo. I had to use the radar in the picture to figure out where CJ was looking (looking at what, I don't know).

#4 The description said the horseshoe was inside an "o" of a large HOTEL sign. I combed through the entire Old Venturas Strip to find not one large HOTEL sign. I did, however find a large CASINO sign, but qith no horseshoe.

Seriously, how can they put out this crap and call it an "Official Guide"? If Rockstar nodded their heads to this garbage then whoever tested this guide for bugs seriously needs to get fired. No Joke.

And as Segosa said himself, the guide really isn't useful for much other than the COLLECTION part. I barely ever used the actual guide for more than two mission as it really isnt any help in that area. Really, all it does is tell you what to do (which is covered at the beginning of the mission. I found it useful on maybe two occasions, "Gray Imports" and "Tanker Commander". The one part they managed to screw up happened to be the one useful part.

Oh well, what more can I do than sit here and grumble.......

No doubt, the photos ops were wacked.

^ ^ that site had it's own and helped me when I

got in a mix. All tags too, very nice site.

I took the time to re-number them in my strategy guide.

Actually, I found a horseshoe in the O in CASINO.

The one that pissed me off the most was number 43 - it says its by the come-a-lot, but you can clearly see the big bubbly red thing from behind Clown's Pocket. There's a horseshoe there, but no

And, Im not sure why I can't find the number that corresponds to the horseshoe, there's a building behind the come-a-lot that you can go up the stairs to the roof, you fall into the middle balcony below to pick up the horseshoe. I didn't see any mention of this in the strategy guide. GRRR. angry.gif

wildhalcyon, hawk_196:

Indeed it was in the O of Casino, but I didn't have too much of a problem locating it as every icon on the map was about 1 CM off to the left exactly. It was still annoying as hell having to use the in-game map's settable pointer to guess how far to the right each horseshoe was.

Thank god I've got them all now and I can put that nightmare behind me :|

It was truly an unenjoyable time.

P.S. One of the horseshoes in the airport had a picture which was completely off, and the decription too. It was right to the side of the runway and the guide said on top of a roof...

That site is so helpful! I was trying to beat Vigilante, and I tried doing it in Red County. The Bradygames guide shows no police bribes or armor up there. But, lo and behold, the hem.bredband.net site gave me the help I needed to finally beat it last night.

Damn, yo, if you're gonna do a strat guide, then, at least make sure you collaborate with the programmers and be certain you covered everything, and did it correctly, before you send the guide to the printer. There are so many weapon/bribe/armor locations that Brady completely missed, it's almost like they didn't care. Thank god for the internerd!

I was wondering when something was going to be said about this! Hopefully R* and Bradygames works out any flaws next runaround. I mean, if they divide their 60 people that worked on this game between the 250 pages in the guide, in less than an hour of worktime they could verify that an "Official Guide" is correct. Less than an hour. To make sure 2 YEARS worth of work was getting broken down correctly. Doesn't sound like much of a sacrafice to me.

Oh well, the guide is out now, many of us bought it and there are errors in it.

So what, you can't fix them anymore.

Always look on the bright side:

- tons of great screenshots

- great comments and ads

- vehicle list

- weapon list

- a very good walkthrough of the game

- loads of maps

- every single mission

The bigger a game gets, the more likely there will be errors.

Imagine the game finished, the guide finished, the guide printed.

Brady should offer everyone who bought the game - or claims they have - some A4 size stickers to put in their guide...to replace the faulty pages.

This is really rant worthy.

I mean, the whole point of buying, as in laying out dough, to buy a game guide, is so you dont have to keep refering to the computer for faqs and internet searches when you need stuff...

But with the quality of free info on the net, one would assume that an official guide would be much more complete, filled with info and stuff...

Not only its missing a bunch of stuff... but whats there is wrong too? WTF?

I started using the guide for the photo ops and at once saw that it was way off.. But I found the fixed pages on brady's site, so ok.. one glitch.. fix was there.. I can move on with my life...

But now I read here that the rest of the collections are messed up as well? And with no fixes on their website? come on!

Last night I tried to refer to the guide to help a friend who was having trouble with the Big Snake train mission (I passed it a while ago and didn't remember how it went) but it gave me no useful info...

I mean, if the mission guides are just main pointers.. not guides at all, then what's the point?

This is the first time I buy such a book... and the last.

The oysters and Tags (apart from one missing) are all good. The horseshoes are manageable as long as you make an educated guess on how far to the right they actually are.

The photo ops aren't too bad either since knowing the location it's quite easy to find. Just look for a building or item worth photographing, or look around with the camera for the icon, or even at night they glow.

I've done them all, and I don't think it was too bad, at least they didn't get EVERYTHING wrong.

I do agree about the missions bit just telling you what you have to do and not giving many tips (though they do give some).

By the way, it's Big Smoke, not Snake. tounge.gif

Why does everyone say a tag is missing? Count them there ARE 100 tag locations. If you read the numbers however there are TWO 79's.

yeh same i saw there were 2 79's and im like oh crap, but anyway, all the tags were good except for 89, like i looked at the mini map, the little circle map and it showed it in the right place for the guide yet i found the tag in a different spot like 30 metres away, so the mini map was stuffed as well, yeh ive done like 4 photo ops and all of them were wrong bloody annoying and i also noticed all the horseshoes are screwed up, and there are also times wrong, like it says u have like 4 minutes in the mike toreno mission and its really 5,30 or sumthin, and also in the courier misions, and it doesnt evan really tell u wat to do in the missions its more of a well i dunno, it tells u how to do it not oh iu dunno, it just doesnt explain everythin, oh well, i wont be buyin another one

I griped about these shortcomings in a customer review on Amazon back at the start of the month, and I think some of the Brady people tried to mod down my comment. How could being informed of errors in the book NOT be helpful to a potential customer?

And because nobody has mentioned this one yet: The horseshoe they list as being in the ten story garage in NE LV (#41) is actually north across the street near the gas station. Took me forever to find that one searching all ten floors of the garage plus the roof.

At least they did something about it. And maybe next time around they'll include screenshots for the collectibles that don't require an electron microscope to see the radar clearly.

i got this guide also. and it sucks for trying to find all 100 tags and such.

you can clearlly see from this guide who wants to help gamers more, the persons making these guides (and thus money to pay their big bmw's and such), or the real gamers, who do it for free and post it all on their websites.

they're just a bunch of ripoffs who wanna ride along with the hype.

"ohw! that game is a hit too! quick!, made some soth of guide of it! doesn't matter if it's correct, as long as it brings in cash! My hamster needs golden testicals!"

I'm looking at it right now and for #1 on the description page (Page 85) it seems to say...

Next to tower on top of Missionary Hill

... Now on the map part #1 is on the northern bridge. (Gant Bridge I believe.) Now that can't be right....

*sigh* I hope they get all the mistakes soon... sad.gif

ive usually been happy with brady game guides, some were very helpful, but this is just a joke. if you have proof of purchase, you should be able to take to them and demand either a refund or a new edition with the corrections, if they will print one. there should be some reconcilliation for you the customer, who paid these f*ckers money, that could have gone to innumberable better causes.

Ok this is my first post so please be gentle..............

I've been using the Brady Guide and have managed to locate all the tags and the first 15 oysters.

However, there is a map at the front(ish) of the book that shows where all the weapons and armour can be found. I'm intrigued by Weapon 15 (I think) which is called 'Mystery weapon 1' and can be supposedly found in blueberry. I've spent days up there climbing all over the buildings and all I can find is the Tec 9 by a warehouse.

If anyone has any ideas of where I can find this weapon and what it is I'd be in much appreciation.

I agree with you at some degree. I don't think we can get our money back because the guide does help. Some missions I have had trouble with, the guide was there with the answer to my questions. Plus BradyGames has come out and at least given us the corrections for free. My problem is that they could have kept the problem from occuring if they had taken the time and checked that the guide was correct.

devil.gif I posted these elsewhere but I hope they help as far as having a somewhat better description of where the missing horseshoes are.

Other Glaring Horseshoe Oversites

*#3- Emerald Isle, Frogs Pawn Shop- There is no "Frog's Pawn shop" the horseshoe is on the red-roof of a one story building to the right of the gym.

*#15- Las Ventura Airport, underneath a staircase in the back of the airport. There is no staircase, the map places it correctly but it is simply next to an airport wall.

*#24- Starfish Casino- On top of the roof.- Ok this was just confusing, as the horseshoe is not actually on or near the Starfish Casino it is (east) across the street on top of a Cluckin Bell.

*#25- Las Venturas Airport, on top of the roof.- No! Much like #28 it sits on the runway where the map places it, there is no building or roof.

*26- The Camels Toe, on top of the pyramid. - Ack! #2 is on top of the pyramid!! This one is on the big raised awning that surrounds the pyramid! (Land a Helicopter on the Sphinxs head and walk around if you dont have the rocket pack).

*28- Las Venturas Airport, hidden from view by some bushes and other objects.- Third times a charm. There are no bushes, there are no other objects, it simply sits on the north-western part of the runway, just left of the floating Armor.

*39- Starfish Casino, on a ledge. -Once again very confusing, Once again not on or near the Casino rather it is (east) on an interior ledge above an enclosed clothing store parking lot.(I believe it was Zip).

*41- Emerald Isle, hidden inside a small garage complex. Not so much an oversight as a crappy description, being that there is a multi-storied (Emerald Isle) car park you will more likely search (for hours) before you realise it is (west) across the street, in a nook beside the carwash thingy.

*42- Emerald Isle, In the southwest corner outside of the carpark next to a fenced in stairway.- Placed correctly, but there is no fenced in stairway, it is south between the gym and "Froggys Pawn shop".

*43- Come-A-Lot, slightly hidden from view in the little alcove. WTF! The picture shows Carl standing next to an alcove across from the Starfish Casino! It is on one of the small fenced in porches, in between the buidings east of Come-A-Lot. There are stairs leading up to the roof, jump down to it.

*46- Old Venturas Strip, inside the "O" of Hotel.- It is in front of the "O" in CASINO, thank you very much!

*49-Whitewood Estates, in the back garden on this house on the edge of town. # 49 is in front of the long commercial building just south of the house on the edge of town. The building has a ramp placed on its north and south ends and is indeed on the edge of town just kind of floating in the air in front of that one story commercial builing with the ramps behind it.

Just reading it again is reminding me of the nightmare finding the horseshoes really was bored.gif , I managed it with only Brady Games' descriptions.

I wonder how they can come up with those? Do they employ 11 year olds to write them?

First of all, the official guide is simply a piece of sh*t that hasn't helped me find anything! It seems like they hurried to make the guide, and that caused all the photo ops and horseshoes to get f*cked up. They should print an entirely new guide with everything fixed and let people trade the original one in for a newer guide. mad.gifsly.gifsneaky2.gif
